Further incite on Dawkin's The God Delusion
by Abandoned ini started a thread after i finished the first chapter of this book entitled something like, i'm an atheist.
i finished chapter three and i have to backtrack a bit, but i also feel the need to explain why since i was so vocal.. first, let me say that i think everyon should read the first two chapters of the god delusion by richard dawkins.
he brings up some very important points about religion and about science's place in our world.

I was thinking of something along those lines, we might think of birth of something new as the opposite of death - so there can be a renewal and that process can be called life. If that is life going on, then the opposite of it would be to hang on in some way like either birth or death, when life involves both.
Maybe the obvious thing that comes to mind would be hanging on to the past, but one can hang on to an ideal future, too. Actually the trick seems to be right there in the middle razor edge between the two, because there's always something coming and something going.

It may be good to distinguish between healing, which may be defined as returning to a previous state or level of health, or the typical average state of health, and optimal health. For example most people aren't as healthy as they CAN be, physically, but they get by okay. For example we know some people has that lingering cough after they get over an infection, not exactly healthy but they are better and functional.
So there are many different shades of health, we might say. As far as this aspect of moving on with mental health, certainly that is a good thing. Of course, in the end its really about the ability to move on from things rather than one particular thing, and naturally a big thing will typically take people longer. As far as that ability to be unattached to life events, frankly very few people really have it. Some may have it in greater measure than others, but even if one is considered typically well adjusted and mentally healthy, there are things that gets them.
So strictly speaking, the ideal of always moving on is like an optimal state of mental health that few really achieve. The JW experience might be likened to a particular episode of illness. Getting over that episode is one thing, having a strong immune system that process it quickly and efficiently is another matter. Perhaps, then if anything we might focus on strengthening the immune system generally, so to speak rather than just dealing with the particular pathology of this particular illness - but of course both are appropriate given that point in time.

thats the mind boggling effect the wts had on people.. every day normal things, you would question yourself as to weather it had satanic connections with it.. its a wonder how we survived our everyday living?.

It is interesting to consider, although it only goes to reason you can only change the meaning up to a certain point. If there is an arbitrary meaning and an intrinsic meaning then ultimately it boils down to the intrinsic structure. Some time ago I heard the internet can be considered a symbol, but as you said it can have a negative spin put on it. However global connectivity is still global connectivity.

Do You Get Any Pleasure Out of the Holidays Since Leaving the Watchtower?

i've been out of the watchtower for about 6 years now and i still don't enjoy the holidays or my birthday.
i can't recall one time saying to myself, "wow, that was so much fun.

To address your question about getting the joy out of the holidays though, I'd stay just start with joy in general. Who cares if other people enjoy certain things, whether its the holidays or whatever? Find what gives you joy. Personally, it just does not give me joy to see someone with that blank space cadet look in their eyes saying "Merry Christmas!"

Okay, count me in as one that don't *particularly* enjoy the holidays. Frankly I just consider it mostly irrelevant, aside from big ones like Christmas and people around me reminding me I'd forget. One time my brother messaged me and said "what are you doing this weekend?" which doesn't happen all too often, and I was thinking "why what do you want?" It was my birthday.
I think the whole positive/negative having joy or lacking in it view is overrated. Life is just not like that. To me a lot of people do different things to try to artificially infuse some time or event with joy, when the fact of the matter is there isn't really anything to be all that excited about. I don't consider receiving gifts and eating a cake or turkey to be something that is in itself a big deal. I would agree that good times with friends and loved ones are important, maybe they would give a gift that is thoughtful and cook a nice meal - but that's about the people, not the stuff. So yes, a lot of it I think is this materialistic outlook, we all know about the commercialism with Xmas and the like. I DO think material things are to be enjoyed like *everything else*, but frankly I think most people become mesmerized too easily like "oo, a shiny object." Whoppee doo.
Oh yeah, I don't particularly relate it to the JW thing, it is what it is. Obviously I have the choice to celebrate it if I want, and I do go along with friends and family, but it's just kind of a matter of not being into it.

I say never get your life "back on track" - abandon the idea of running your life on a track, unless you build it yourself or know exactly where it goes.
Instead, I say think of yourself as an all-terrain, 4X4 type vehicle.
But it depends on what you want. Some people are happy with the standard track of the average person with those same ambitions, and if that's the case by all means hop off the JW ride and on to that one, or one of that type. That is actually a no brainer. Otherwise, if one actually wants to move through life freely any track system will eventually be too limiting.
