Oh are local needs supposed to be about problems in the congo? I just assumed those parts were made up and filtered them out...
In fact, I can barely remember any worth remembering.
every cong has them, the petty dictators who make up arbitrary rules and insist that the rank and file follow them or pay the penalty.
a couple mine had - sisters could not have skirts that were either too short (above the knee) or too long, below the mid-calf - either extreme was worldly.
also, in order to have privileges (cause there were so many wonderful and fulfilling things for women in the borg) sisters must wear pantyhose.

We didn't have much minor ones placed. But I'm sure secretly the elders instituted policies about what was acceptable and what wasn't.
Well, one thing that did change is when we kinda had an overhaul of the P.O. and some new elders came in. We quit having congregation get togethers almost all together and were encouraged to only associate at the meetings or in small get togethers with other families. We used to have a treat night at our bookstudy which was at this guys house who was probably one of the coolest witnesses I've ever met. The guy was a legend to me. He was a 3rd degree mason at one point in his life and ran a profitable transportation company. It was a great bookstudy and they 2 older women (1 he was married to the other was her sister) were the best cooks. They made the best deserts.
Anyway, that stopped too.
I guess there was never any real edicts from the men on top, it was more subtle, like percieved rules.
i have to give her credit that at least she is willing to discuss the misgivings i have with the wts.
up to this point i have not.
openly stated my disbelief in the jw theology and thinks some of my attitude is just the libertarian streak in me.
Just pop in the WT cd and search for "submitting to the slave" or something like that, you should be able to find a ton on it.

Yeah, she needs to read harder.
At my last reinstatement meeting I heard this.
"Of course we are loyal to you as a christian and your feelings are important to us. But ultimately we are loyal to the slave."
Shouldn't that sentence read loyal to Jehovah and submit to Jesus Christ authority over the congregation?
in mid-1975: i grew a mustache while i was a ministerial servant (california bay area).
i recall being asked to conduct the book study while my hair was growing.
several acted odd toward me because there was still an ongoing argument about whether having such facial hair was appropriate for men of good example.
I agree on a lot of points. Didn't all the early JWs have beards? When did it become considered not in good standing in the society? Or when was it considered to be in poor taste as a person of the world?
I have heard many brothers (Obviously with beard envy, or goatee envy) express that many well known business mean have beards these days. I remember seeing Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard from Star Trek) on Conan Obrien and he had a full on nice beard. Very distinguished, I mean this guy is a Shakespearian Actor.
After I was DFd and I got a new job in another city I stopped going to the meetings cause I was driving 2 1/2 hours a day for work and worked about 9 hour days, as you can imagine there was no real time for the meetings. I started to grow a beard and a liked it. The only thing is I cannot complete mine from my mustache to beard there is a gap, but it still looked good.
Mine got curly after growing for so long and I tried combing it and getting it straight but at a certain length my hair just goes curly on my face. So I got a nice beard trimmer, and trimmed it to a good length of about half an inch, I let my neck hair grow in too (Mine grows almost down to my adams apple, I trim it up down there cause it's not very thick, so I shave it usually).
Fast forward 2 months, I have not been to a meeting in a while, and I decide to go to memorial. Man, I had the same experience I walked in (I was born in this congo BTW, went there for 24 years. I mean I saw this congregation change form, shape, demographics, and be reborn a few times. And there are some who I have known all my life, nice people, nice older ones) But the looks. Wow. I've never seen the whites of so many peoples eyes.
I sat over in the corner, and my brother was doing sound for the Memorial, he's a MS. I did get several pats on my shoulders, no hugs but I understand because the elders would immediately attack anyone for showing that much kindness. But it was a pretty good experience. I went to the KH for about 2 months with that beard and I finally shaved it.
My friend Dan, who is my best friend and a witness, still talks to me. I went to see him after I shaved it and we talked for a while. He mentioned that since I'm balding and I'm kinda darker skinned for a white guy it kinda made me look like Osama (of course he was joking, but he was being half honest, he can always make me laugh) so I think with my face and my hairstyle it's a good choice to not have one.
Anyway, similar experience on my end.
my best friend and his wife had hired an elder to do some refinishing work in their basement.
they kept their tv and vhs tapes (pre dvd era) down there.
it seems dear brother was a bit of a nosy fella, so he just happened to pop in one of their home movies of a trip they had taken to cuba and found some footage of my friend smoking a cigar.

It seems dear brother was a bit of a nosy fella, so he just happened to pop in one of their home movies of a trip they had taken to Cuba and found some footage of my friend smoking a cigar. The guy had the audacity to go to his fellow elders about it and my friend was reproved and removed as an MS (probably the best thing that could have happened to him but that's besides the point.) The elder's comment, "I know it was Jehovah leading me because I would never normally go through anyone's private videos. Something just made me grab that tape." Nosy elder was praised because it was so obvious to the commitee that it was holy spirit and not the desire to ogle my friend's wife in a bikini that led him to watch the tape. Now that is a get out of jail free card if ever there was one. Kind of a Dub version of "the devil made me do it."
FBF
Oh my god. Sounds like this brother really needed to get laid.
He says it like he found the grave of Jimmy Hoffa or some grand discovery of the end all and be all. He was smoking a cigar, once. That's so ridiculous, if he was otherwise faithful, which it sounds like he was, there was no reason to even punish him at all.
Everything has to be decided by some judicial committee. Even the smallest little thing. Some people just need to remove themselves from others personal lives. Much like "The WT in the bedroom"
i just scanned the boe letter about the wt format change.
it's in .tif format.. enjoy!.
Wow, what's going on?
I had heard something about a new policy but what specifically will the WT have done. I saw the link but I didn't want to sign up for send space, sorry I'm being a little lazy.
our visiting co mentioned that this is a new arrangement that the society is implementing shortly.
it was apparently brought out at the last elders school.
does anyone know what this consists of?.
Apprentice?
This sounds very star wars. Which would make sense, as the elders train the crones to be their apprentices, and they must call the elders master. (Is this another way for elders to be alone with boys??? Although, in the org molestation seems to occur more towards females....who knew JWs are straight and Catholics are gay....)
i still remember this one.
i must have been about 6 years old.
we lived in an old house and i had the same dream?
It was October 26th 2005. My fiancee just came over and we of course "hooked up" and she was going out of town with her family for the weekend and was asking me if I would miss her, her family was not keen on me going so I didn't.
I had a dream that our whole relationship ended and it was horrible, screaming, yelling, etc.
Friday morning I found out she was cheating on me and another dude was going on her family's camping trip with her. I hate my premonitions. I have them off and on.
a blizzard is heading our way tonight and tomorrow.
they've already cancelled schools ahead of time.
good thing i have a huge stash of home made hot chocolate mix!
My car got stuck coming home. I went into work today because we were required to and I had a lot to do, so I didn't leave till 5. Our parking lot was a mess to get out of, but I followed my boss out with his car.
I get to my apartment and I'm goin good till I go to get into our parking lot, it ramps up and it was bad. 3 guys helped me out, but surprisingly none of us had shovels. I could have dug myself out if I had a shovel. So we finally got the car over to the side of our street where it is now staying. It's not stuck, but we've got wind gusts of 40 mph here and snow is all over. They took the plows of 65 and out of our town.
I will probably still be going to work tomorrow.
