When would you say that the Ice Age took place?
There have been multiple ice ages throughout history. In fact we are in what is known as an interglacial period in the current ice age. This current interglacial period is known as the Holocene which began around 9600 B.C..
What type of animals existed then?
Lots of large mammals existed that don't now, like the wooly mammoth, the saber-toothed tiger, and the giant ground sloth. Do a search on the Pleistocene period, and you can read more about what animals were on the Earth then that aren't now.
The climate from then and now....BIG changes why?
From the last glaciation up till very recently climate changes were all natural. For example the Earth's orbit varies a little every 28,000 years or so, this is called the Milankovitch cycle. There are also feedback mechanisms that once started by small changes can lead to larger ones. For example once glaciers start to melt they expose a darker less reflective surface which will absorb more of the sun's energy which will melt more ice. Recently, human activities have added a new variable into the climatary cycles. This topic causes a lot of bickering so I'll leave it at that since human activities had no effect on the previous glaciation.
Before the flood of Noah do you think rain fell?
There is no evidence that properties of water have changed since the time that the biblical flood was said to have occurred so I think it is safe to conclude that rain did fall before that time period. Also, glaciers over land require precipitation to form.
Did you know that our contribution to earth caused so much pollution that we got a hole in the ozone layer?
CFCs are but one of our contributions to the earth's atmosphere.
Did you know that the Bible speaks of the end of times when there would be more natural disasters worse than there ever was before?
The bible and many other religious texts contain many intentionally vague prophecies that can be interpreted many ways. Why wasn't the bible more specific in its warnings? Millions of people's lives could've been saved.
Do you know that there are many more things to come?
There are always more things to come. :)
What do we have right now?
What we have is what you see. We have only ourselves to save us from ourselves. To wait on some omnipotent being to save us from our own shortsightedness is.. well.. shortsighted. :) -

HAPLOGROUP
by worldtraveller inwhen you all get a chance to read about this, it is quite interesting.. to make a long story short, dna has been studied and there is sufficient evidence to show that the origin of man is not from the middle east, but is in fact from central africa.
what was found is that people migrated north, then west.
it stated that 75% of people are originally from a jewish background after the northerly trek.

I saw that episode, I think they were referring to Stephen's haplogroup, not everyones. IIRC there were 4 subgroups in his haplogroup, and 3 of them were of jewish origin, then they stopped there for the comedic effect of Colbert pondering his potential Jewish ancestry.

The evolution of human consciousness
by changeling inwe often compare those who act violently to animals.. we do the same with those who rant and rave irrationally.. even those who do not believe in evolution do so.
they say things like: "that jeffrey dhamer was an animal", or "terrorists are animals".
could violence and irrationallity be a throw back to an earlier form or being?.

Peace via pacifism will never work as long as people subject themselves to authority. Unfortunately I don't think that most people are capable of behaving themselves without fear of punishment whether that punishment be real (law enforcement) or imagined (religion).
We are social primates that tend to subject ourselves to the will of the alpha males (sometimes females!) in our society, and sometimes they tell us to do violent things, and being the good little tribe members we are, we follow. This tribalism exists everywhere, from our nation-states, to our sports teams, to gangs, and even political parties. With the higher parts of our brains we have achieved great things, with the lower parts we have done horrible things to our fellow man. Which part of us will win in the end? -

Remember the Movie "Raiders of the Lost Ark"...
by alias in... towards the end when the bad guys opened the ark and indiana and his lady were tied to the pole, the spiritual unleashing that came out and killed, no, melted all the bad guys?
i was probably 9 or 10 when that movie came out and it literally scared the cheese out of me in the theater.
i was so glad to be a jw at the time because i felt like i just witnessed the power of god and saw what was going to happen to opposers when judgment day came.

Smell like a jock strap or like a perfumed girl? Shower Soap ?...
by Little Drummer Boy inon the strength that my recent post concerning cheetos went to 3 pages and was referenced in at least 3 other threads, i feel that the time has come to discuss another most important topic: shower soap.. this thread topic most definitely falls under the category of intellectual starvation topics, so you should be forewarned that terry will not approve.
heh...(just funnin' yah terry).
to the point: i here refer to a liquid soap meant to be applied to a wet shower poof and then scrubbed onto the skin.

I used the liquid soap and poof thing for a while, there was a dial liquid soap I used that was good that didn't scream "See! This is a MANLY liquid soap! You can use this!" nor did it leave you smelling like a botanical garden. Zest had some good functional liquid soaps, too.
I should use them again, I think you get cleaner using that than you do with the standard bar soap and washcloth.
