it just dawned on me, and i'm really a little put out over it.

i was reading alanf's comments about vinny and his willingness to sacrifice children if god told him to.

alan suggested any fundamentalist christian should agree he would, and vinny did in fact agree.

I've had some similar idea to this. What makes God--if I'm wrong and he exists--any different than an alien that is infinitely more advanced than we are? If God popped in one day and said, "What up?" how would you know it was him? A sufficiently advanced race might be able to perform any and every miracle we could think to ask from God as proof. So how would you know it was God and not some alien?

Even if God stepped in and stopped the aliens from impersonaing him, how would we know it wasn't an even more powerful bunch of aliens that intervened?

I think its partly responsible for my sexual deviancy. From the first time I heard the word fornication at age 4 I was obsessed. Looking forward to menopause or death to interupt this life long addiction.

When a DFed anointed one get reinstated..............what happens ??????

i have just found out that an appointed member of a congregation i know has been dfed for drinking, this person has had a problem for years but her daughter dobbed her in................anyway i was wondering what happens if she gets reinstated, will she still be one of the anointed or has she lost her crown.

I'd rather see something more current on that. I was told they would not be anointed after "falling away" back in the 90s, but that QFR is from the 70s. You know the Society is run by a bunch of flip floppers.

I suspect that the Society does tend to have some harmful sideffects on people. My wife and many in her family have a list or problems. (Yippee for me...) She and her parents are all obsessive compulsive, depressive personalities. Most of the women in her family seem to have major control issues. Some express it passive aggressively, others more openly. I've noticed that all of them seem to feel entitled to tell my wife what to do and to pressure me into falling in line with things she does on a whim. The men tend to shirk responsibilities within the family, focussing on work and hobbies while leaving the kids and everything like that for the women folk to do. I think they're living in the 50s or something. They tend to get strangely "Elder-like" about some issues, but more often tend to avoid dealing with most things, leaving their wives to sort things out behind their backs.

They aren't the only families that are like this, just the examples I know best. There is a pretty infamous quote that keeps popping up on anti-Witness sites where a mental health professional specifically sites JWs as having more mental problems than other groups on average. I'd really love for someone to do an actual study on this, or to gather a list or professional opinions about it. In the meantime, my experiences suggest they do have more emotional/mental problems.

Others may have a different (or more current?) answer, but I was always told that they would return as members of the Great Crowd. That is, once you've been Anointed and then kicked out, you can't be anointed again. I was also told that the Anointed are truly immortal when they ascend into Heaven, that Jehovah promises never to destroy them for any reason--unlike members of the Great Crowd. It is assumed that members of the Anointed are people who will never disobey Jehovah, so he is putting so much faith in them that he makes this promise.

I guess getting DFed would be a sign that Jehovah can't trust you after all. Oops.

You'd think he would check that in advance before selecting them for true immortality in the first place, but that's just me being silly. Guess Satan wasn't enough of a rebel for the big guy, he's just aching to create a more long term foe.

Or the whole thing is crap and the WT made it up.

J.W. DOCUMENTARY TONIGHT (SUNDAY) 10 P.M.

there is a documentary tonight at 10 p.m. eastern time, on "independent lens", cable channel 21 on cox cable in new england.

(also called...pbs, wgbx channel 44).

it's titled..."members of jehovah's witnesses" and the info says.."two families are practicing members of jehovah witnesses".. i will tape it, and critique it on this thread after i review it.

My personal theory is that he is an idiot as well as a stubborn, self righteous jackass. He's incompetent, just like a lot of supervisors I have known. People like him surround themselves with others who are equally incompetent. Hiring better people means exposing himself to the fact that he's useless day after day, year after year, so it's easier to surround himself with yes-men who are merely his equals. He's too insecure to put people who are truly more able in positions of power because he'll know that this person should probably have his job. He can't deal with that. Too bad.

He is guilty of one of the worst evils--the evil of small mindedness. The cumulative effect of this evil is far greater than it might at first appear.

Can't wait to see who they foist on us next.

Shocking Video (Christian Fundamentalist)

i just saw this and i am really shocked by it.. a young lady on stage (at a graduation ceremony) utters a prayer which condemns the intellect and using the mind, but then starts to have some kind of religious "experience" on stage.

It was like E.T. (except E.T. didn't live up to the hype). I laughed, I cried...on the inside, at any rate. Aw man, that was weird. We don't have a lot of that where I live.

Did you notice the older fellow to her left as he started shifting from foot to foot? Poor guy. Then that other fellow came up beside her and was like, "Okay, honey. That's enough. Okay now, let's wrap this puppy up... Any time now would be good. Here, let me have you speech so you'll stop talking. Are ya done yet? Come on, let's go." Then he tries to catch her as she starts to double over.

I actually suspect this could be like that scene at the end of Police Academy. Wonder who was hiding beneath her podium?

rude people at the door

why you were part of the jw faith and you were by yourself at a persons door ,who was really rude toward you, did you ever say anything nasty back instead of saying have a nice day?

also did you ever want to just knock someone out?

any experiences or thoughts of what you wanted to do?

I once met a woman who didn't come to her door, but opened her window as we were coming up her steps and leaned out to tell us, "No thanks. We aren't interested. Please leave."

It seems funny to me now, though. We probably deserved it, to some extent.

There was one Elder--one of the few decent ones I had met at my congregation--who would tell people like her, "Okay. We'll just keep your Publisher's Clearinghouse Check for ourselves."

I wish he would have been there. Might have made for a better story.
