Atheists, Agnostics: Do you still pray?
by Eh infor people who left, not only the organization, but also the canaanite/judaic/christian/islamic/bahai god, do you still pray?
before we left the group we (my wife and i) were questioning the bible and the existence of god.
being witnesses, we were uneducated and never heard of things like pascal's wager, but we (my wife especially) had come to a similar idea - even if the whole thing were ballocks, there was little harm in continuing.

I always got distracted during prayer even when I DID believe in God. Praying felt pointless and futile even then. Now, well, what would be the point?

a message for our witness relatives...
by elliej inon the off chance one of them is perusing this board looking for ammunition, i want them to get this message loud and clear:.
you did more damage to your cause with your disgusting behavior this last weekend than we ever could have hoped to do.
your unparalleled hipocrisy was noticed by all.

I'm so sorry to hear that, Gopher. Ironically, since I've faded my brainwashed parents have actually begun spending time with my DA'd brother. While I was in and still in rabid Dub mode I would have reported them to the elders for that, but now that I'm spending lots of time with my brother (and thoroughly enjoying getting to know him again), she knows its safe to associate with him without worrying about that. What I find difficult to stomach is that the entire time he's been DA'd, they would not eat with him, but they were always more than happy to accept his money (and he was exceedingly generous, putting my dad on salary while he pioneered, sending them on a cruise to Alaska and slipping them money whenever times were tight). I may have been a cold-hearted bitch, but at least I didn't try to have it both ways. Petty, I know *sigh*

The Churches Are Going JW Style
by Undecided ini have noticed some of the local churches are beginning to call on homes in the neighborhood.
we weren't home but they left a little bag of stuff.
i went to church with my wife last night and they were trying to start a house calling work.

Oh yes, Undecided, they most definitely do still have "territory servants." My dad served in that capacity for several years and spent LOTS of money (that he and my mom didn't really have) to get county maps enlarged, laminated, blah blah blah, all so they can go and insult people directly face to face in their homes. What a privileged position.

Did You REALLY Believe?
by Eh ini don't believe jw teachings anymore.
i don't believe the bible is anything more than a religious text written by men.
i have no reason to believe there's anything beyond the natural world.

I tried desperately to believe and tied myself in knots with guilt when I couldn't quite pull it off. That dissonance between what I had been brainwashed into thinking I SHOULD believe and my own morals objecting fiercely was what ultimately drove me to leave.
It was also a huge shock to realize that my husband at the time hadn't really believed; it was just a comfortable situation for him, and when it interfered with other activites that were more important, he had no qualms about leaving. For him it was much less of an anguished soulsearching and much more a matter of convenience when he walked away from the Borg. To this day he still really doesn't understand why I am so angry and bitter toward the Borg.

Great vid, Was! I especially loved the music - both the stuff you played for the Cano parts and the other creepier stuff (i.e. the dubs singing!)

Why don't Witnesses indentify themselves at the door when in service?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inmy 17 year old daughter told me 2 men were at the door saturday looking for adults that lived in the house.my wife and i were out of town for 2 days.they had suits on and carrying book bags.
they asked if she was over 18. she replied that she wasn't.
they left without indentifiying themselves.

LOL, SirNose586, I always did that too - saved time. The faster the door closed, the less likely I would have to spew more stupid crap that was impossible and embarrassing to try and explain!

Active Elders who post on JWD
by Honesty indoes your conscience torment you knowing that you are misleading the flock of god as you continue teaching them the heresies of the watchtower society?.
why are you staying in the organization and posting here at the same time?.
do you really believe that you can help your families to reject the watchtower society while remaining an elder and visibly appearing to support their lies and false teachings?.

Sir82's comment made me realize that ironic as it sounds, elders still on the inside can serve as a "craggy place of shelter" in the middle of the nuthouse that is the congregation. At least they can run interference warding off the crazed fundie elder (let's face it, every cong has one) determined to DF everyone who doesn't meet up to his standards.
Another thought is, IMHO, it's really the Borg that's to blame here, not these poor guys who are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Changling is right, they COULD step down, but often that brings it's own host of problems with family.
