Clearly, just left of top middle is a nun seated facing right. Juxtaposed
over that is the story she tells:
In the top middle Jesus sits facing right reading a book to a bearded guy
seated to his left/our right. (An unrelated guy sits faintly seen farther back
to our right.) In front of Jesus' right elbow a woman in a black hood faces us.
Juxtaposed over that is the story Jesus tells:
Taking up the biggest share of the picture below that is a bearded pirate
(Charles Laughton) with a hat yelling to the left. You can tell he's a pirate
because Poopy the poop-shaped parrot (Bette Davis in an ill-advised role) is
perched on his left shoulder facing partly left. Of course the pirate repre-
sents avarice and the constitution of the parrot is symbolic of that.
Above and to the right of all of this is the story the pirate yells: an adver-
tisement. At this point the preview audience, thinking it was a real commer-
cial, left for the snack bar and never came back. Due to that, and the fact
that the plot was considered silly by people of any leaning, it's become one of
our lost films.
v I think I speak for many here when I say not always, no.
