  How would you respond to this JW apologist??

  hey all - as some of you may know, i've been engaged in a pretty big debate with family members as well as internet acquaintances over whether the jw's are a cult.

  thanks to everyone who have posted links to threads that have helped me in my dialogue with them - its actually working.

  the latest is that one of the posters i've been dialoging and he says that agrees with me on many points but he brought up the following response and i ask (how would you respond to this) that i have posted below (by the way, the person he references as gq is me - its my username on that web site):.

  Well, how nice for you! But let me ask you a question. Why is that people who are bothered by some of the more unsavory aspects of the Watchtower, such as cover ups of child molestation, are shunned by their jw families and lifelong jw friends if they take a stand against this kind of evil? There is no doubt that the cover ups have happened in the past, (see watchtowerdocuments.com), and continue to happen in current news reports.

  I am Totally Back Now

  two weeks ago i let everybody know we made it safe to our new home.

  what i did not tell you the move was very hard on me.

  i ended up straining my right shoulder so bad i could not even keep my arm up on the key board to type.

  Can you be appointed as an Elder while attending college?

  what is the current stance on this issue?

  i've heard of a lot of ms who were going to university, and yet i've never heard of that being the case for elders.

  someone on this board also mentioned recently that they knew of man who was denied appointment as an elder despite otherwise excellent qualifications because he was a college student.

  But seriously, part of the problem is I'm trying to figure out just how deceptive and secretive they are.

  Read Barbara Anderson's site watchtowerdocuments.com . There are court documents that go back to 1964, (I think that date is correct), that spells out the cover ups for and shuffeling of child molesters. Merton Campbell was involved with doing so for one of the most notorious child molesters in the organization, (James Henderson, if I remember correctly), and Campbell was featured as a faithful servant of Jehovah in the March 1, 2008 Watchtower. I mean, come on, even convicts hate child molesters, yet Watchtower higher ups cover for them. How much more do you need to know?

  two days ago!!!

  a man i knew in england.his wife was a jw he wasnt.... i knew she had ran off with the elder..1999..was df so was the elder.. they were then reinstated -she divorced alan #1 !!!!

  I offered to da, but the elders told me not to bother, because they were going to df me instead. This was all because I refused to either stay with a violent, mentally ill jw husband who was threatening to kill me or stalk him until he decided whether to commit adultery or murder. Apparently, the elders jumped the gun and didn't have enough to df me, so they sent my mom to harrass me about returning to the borg. I made a false confession of adultery to get everyone off my back. I'm happy to be df'd, because it showed everyone who knew me, jw and non-jw alike, just how evil this cult is. It's pretty much guaranteed that my non-jw co-workers, boss and relatives will never give the Watchtower the time of day because of it. The same can be said for all the friends I've made in the last 23 years.

  I was relieved. It closed a long chapter of my life that was filled with terror and violence that was so bad that dying at Armageddon seemed like sweet relief.

  You are asking your questions to the wrong people. Why not ask the governing body? If the Watchtower wasn't so deceptive and secretive, there wouldn't be people claiming all of the terrible things that they do about being a jw.

  hey everybody, i'm in the middle of an ongoing debate w/some jws and they are asserting that everyone knows what they're getting into when they are studying and getting baptized and that nobody forces anyone to become a jw and that you can leave anytime you want.

  ok, we know that's not true.

  how would you counter that argument?

  They don't tell you that the Watchtower is what you will obey; not the Bible and not the law of the land. They don't tell you that inept elders who have no training in child molestation or domestic violence are the ones who investigate such as sins instead of crimes.
