I was thinking the exact same thing as the title of this thread when I read the article about Penn State this morning. What a crying shame this whole situation is!

Confused...
by raxxxx in.
hiya and... i do not really know where to begin... currently a jw... slightly starting to fade... got a girlfriend baptised... i am baptised also... my head is a mess... i do not know what to believe anymore... never really fully trusted elders as it comes to 'leading the flock'... got burned a few times with their ... decisions etc.
read a few articles in here about their alleged false beliefs... do not really know what to do... wondered if any of you felt like that at any point... when something that you trusted and followed most of your life... does not seem to be what you thought it was... .

You poor, sweet thing! Just about everyone here has stood where you now stand. Don't feel alone, because you're not. I read somewhere that it's estimated that there are more exjws than there are jws. Listen to all of the good advice here about keeping your mouth shut while you research. If it gets to be too much, you may want to see a counselor and start making friends on the outside, if you haven't already. You have made a good start by joing JWN. You will find a wealth of information, online friends, and maybe even friends in real life.

...he has waited nearly
3 years for this and endured myriad circumstances
that would have brought me to my knees...That just goes to show how important the transition is to him and others like him. I can't imagine what it's like to go through so much just to be yourself. Good luck to both of you.

JWs and the General Public: A Tragi-Comic Paradox
by Room 215 init's bizarre to me for a religion as public as they are, and as obstensibly devoted to delivering the one and only message for the ages, with their tireless pounding on the public's doors, that they are remarkably averse to delivering their message openly -- on the air and in a public forum.. i suspect they know most of their core beliefs are indefensible, and downright cartoonish in their unwillingness to come to terms with unassailable facts of sicence and history relating to evolution, the age of the earth, the flood etc.
and know they would be laughed off the stage at any public airing.

Don't forget that the door to door "ministry" is busy work for the sheep. It keeps them out of trouble by not giving them a lot of time to think, educate themselves, and partake in recreation.

Last year, my granddaughter, Allison was in the hospital with pnemonia. She is the absolute favorite of mine and my husband, (shush, don't tell anyone else, LOL!). Her mother had two other kids at home who were ill, so everyone was generally miserable. I also had a terrible cold. And even though I wanted to be of help to the whole family as well as visit my precious girl in the hospital, I couldn't for fear of making her and her sisters even sicker. It broke my heart, but there was nothing I could do.
Try to picture your jw mom and sister as being in the same situation. They are mentally ill with brainwashing, and there's nothing they can do. It makes it more difficult for you, but yur kids are definitely better off not being exposed to them.

Hello - new
by freshstart inhi, just wanted to introduce myself.
born-in, as was my husband.
we were both baptized as teens, married when we were teens (he was early 20s) and we were both the "perfect" witnesses.

Welcome to JWN! The older your son gets, the more you'll realize how abusive it is to raise children as jws. Good for you for getting out.

I didn't mean to insult the deaf community, but I still think that presentation was creepy if it was geared toward children.
