You may be able to get to her through the personal experiences of those of us who have been molested as children and abused as wives within the organization. Why don't you relate some of those that are registered at silentlambs.org and watchtowerdocuments.com?

[endif]just read bublegum's post and was going to post there but realised it would be off topic.. it got me thinking - as did some of the other atheist threads - why are religious people scared or atheists?

I was afraid of atheists as a religous jw, because every atheist I knew seemed so sure that God doesn't exist. I figured they must know something that I wasn't allowed to know. I was afraid of atheists as a non-religous, non-jw, because I thought ethics and morals were the same thing. I couldn't imagine someone who wasn't morally bound, on at least a cursory level, to a code of conduct such as the Bible, Koran, Talmud, etc. could practice ethical or moral behavior.
After I got a little older, I discovered that actions speak louder than words. For example, I know a born again Christian woman who slept with her stepdaughter's husband and stole thousands of dollars from a savings account set up for her own children. And I know atheists, who not only would never dream about doing things like that, but also do productive things to help other people.

Emailing my sister RE: Child abuse conviction - NEED HELP!!
by What Now? inso the other night, my family was together and my dad brought up the recent child abuse conviction for the society.
big surprise, my sister hadn't heard anything about it, so of course she got right on to the jw.org website and emailed me the link to the watchtowers official statement.
this is my reply:.

The fact is the safest place to be is in Jehovah's Organization. You sound like an apostate! people flock to the truth because Jehovah promises to get rid
of people like pedophiles.
That's precisely the problem. JWs are led to believe that they are safe within the congregation, when in fact, they are not, because child molesters are hidden in their midst by elders under the direction of the Watch Tower.
You can't always protect your children. A molester could be *****(my husband). Or **** or your neighbor... Just because it happened in the
organization which is made up of imperfect people doesn't mean you blame the organization. That's the stupidest thing I ever heard.
The organization is just as much to blame as the Catholic Church when accused or confessed child molesters aren't turned into the police and child protective services for an investigation.
And if ***** (my husband) was accused of molesting someone without evidence would you want the Congregation to announce him as a child molester?
No, I wouldn't want it announced to the congregation right away. What I would want is a thorough investigation done by professionals in law enforecement and child protective services. If evidence is not found, then no harm, no foul. If evidence is found, then a conviction can take place, and that would be a matter of public record. Then elders or anyone else can announce it.
or if you were accused? Yes it's a terrible thing if you are molested and I am sure of I had a child I'd be more sympathetic...
"See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.
(Matthew 18:10 ESV)But the fact is that your loyalty lies with Jehovah first! Always. Otherwise why did you get baptised?
I never accused Jehovah of being a child molester or one who covers up for child molesters.
Everything will get sorted out. Jehovah will see to it that justice is done. And Jehovah allows bad things to happen sometimes simply because he is not the ruler of the world right now. Satan is. So how can you blame Jehovah or his organization for something that someone did. It makes no sense I'm sorry you will never convince me of that!!
How do you know that this lawsuit wasn't Jehovah's way of sorting things out? Don't you think Jehovah is angry about people in the Watch Tower covering up for child molesters? I'm not smearing Jehovah's name, but the molesters and the ones covering up for them are. In Candace Conti's case, the elders could have insisted that the confessed but not charged molester have no contact with children under the threat of df'ing. Instead they gave him full access, and he molested a nine-year old child, sometimes even in field service.

Was the Verdict of the Candace Conti lawsuit a Win-Win for the WTS?
by rip van winkle inwhy did the wts not try to settle this lawsuit before going to trial as they had so many times previously?
was it presumptiousness on the part of the society's lawyers and gb?
had this been settled it would have hardly caused a whimper.. it got me to thinking that although the verdict of $28 million is unheard of, it may actually further the wts to make their claims that they are the only true religion.. reason being- if the monetary award is overturned then they will say it was jehovahs will.

The real issues as far as I can tell was did the WTS have a duty of care in the case, because it happened before manditory reporting was law. They also
have a clergy privlidge issue that I dont think is a winner, but could win.
The child molestation in many of the lawsuits won against the Catholic Church happened before the mandatory reporting law was enacted. And the clergy privilege issue was decided by a California case in the Gilbert Simental criminal trial. It was decided that there was no clergy privilege, because the molester's confession was related to the Watch Tower's service or legal department, (I can't remember which).
When the elders in the Simental case still refused to testify, the Murietta prosecuting attorney brought charges against them for failure to report child molestation accusations in a state where it is mandatory. The elders cut a deal and testified in exchange for the charges being dropped.

Interesting conversation re: sexual abuse issue
by Doubting Bro ini may be outing myself so i'm changing some minor detail but i wanted to relate a recent conversation over the sexual abuse issue.
i was at a party, er, gathering this weekend and there were several folks that i haven't talked to in awhile there.
so, i sat down at a table with several other guys and the conversation went like this:.

I run the megan's law registery every six months, you should too.
That's all well and good, but think about something. What about the molester that's never been convicted but has confessed to the elders? The Gilbert Simental trial has already proven that elders do NOT always report to the police, even in mandatory reporting states.

Scouts Canada About To Release Report Regarding Sex-Abuse Related Firings
by Wolfy ini find it interesting that they hired a third part (kpmg) to do a forensic examination of their files.
the scouts had to pay out 18.5 million back in 2010.. .
"the files gathered from 1965 to 1985 came to light when they were used as evidence in a landmark oregon ruling in 2010 that the scouts had failed to protect a plaintiff who had been molested by an assistant scoutmaster in the early 1980s.

"When the organization's child and youth protection policies and practices were recently challenged, Scouts Canada took an honest, open and transparent approach that confronted both the good and the bad of its history," the organization said in a news release Friday.
It would be such a relief if the Watch Tower did the same thing. But those dirty bastards will have to be forced to do it. Hopefully, the more lawsuits that are filed, the more likely courts aren't going to give the organization a choice in the matter.
