You did that perfectly! While encouraging him to fade, you avoided any hint of apostasy. So if he changes his mind about disappearing or goes back after doing so, he can't rat you out.

Unexpected conversation with a long time JW friend (in good standing)
by OneDayillBeFree inso tonight after the meeting, this brother whome i've grown up with invited me to eat.

It would probably be much easier on you and your daughter if her mother and stepfather kick her out. Your daughter refusing to remove the gauges is an indication that she wants to leave. So, if it happens, go pick her up and move her in with you. But be forewarned; pick your battles with teenagers. Having helped to raise two of them, (a girl and a boy), gauges, going Goth, piercings, and tattoos are trivial. Save your fight for alcohol abuse, birth control, drug abuse, and eating disorders.
My stepson wore HUGE gauges in his ears. It looked like shit, and I worried about infection. But he removed them when he got tired of them, and seven years later, his earlobes are fine.

@jamiebowers: If you were to read everything on the site.. you'd see that elders are required to report even alleged abuse if it's mandatory under the law to do so.. or even if not legally required to in some circumstances. Otherwise the victim can go to the authorities themselves, which is best if they are adults, or elders can accompany children to report to the police if necessary. If you think that all allegations should be reported, whether the victim wants it to be or not, okay. But consider the possibility that..telling elders that they HAVE TO report every allegation of anything that falls under the local laws definition of child abuse...regardless of the circumstances of the case or the wishes of the victim and their families.. Might be unbalanced? http://thirdwitness.com/childabuse/Mandatory.html
I know the elders are required to report it IF required by law. First of all, why the "if"? Why not do it in all states? Second, there are many reports from elders that say the Watch Tower instructs them to call from pay phones and give as little information as possible. Why is that? And don't give me that "the victims can go to the authorities themselves". There are news reports from all over the world where victims have said that elders discouraged and even threatened them about going to the police. If the Watch Tower didn't have anything to hide, there wouldn't be a question of reporting or not reporting. Even if the victim or family doesn't want it reported, the humble thing to do is to report it anyway. This is what teachers, counselors, etc., are required to do. Child molestation accusations are best put in the hands of experts in law enforcement and social work and not left in the hands of untrained elders under the delusional, deceptive direction of the Watch Tower.

Are his parents jws? If not, you should probably have a talk with your sibling about what your dad is teaching your nephew.

"The bottom line is that it is unscriptural to disfellowship someone at the mouth of one witness. Surely God's word should take precedent over the thinking of imperfect men. Thus Jehovah's Witnesses apply the two witness rule using both reason and logic. To do otherwise would be to deny the Bible."
Third Witness conveniently avoids the "being in submission to superior authorities" thing, doesn't he? I don't give a damn if the Watch Tower df's accused child molesters. What I do care about is that this filthy organization doesn't report the accusations to law enforcement.

Despite having grown into an amazing person, being happy in life, becoming more spiritual than I ever would have inside the organization... I still find myself with pain over this unmovable barrier between myself and my family. And I resent their inability, or unwillingness, to move around it. Which then makes me feel like a bit of a hypocrite, because neither will I.
First off, Feenx, you are not a hypocrite! Your prents remain victims of mind control, and you do not. Please read Scully's post several times. She made a lot of good points.
