  AEDs: What's more important , $$ or lives? (You probably already know the WT answer. )

  according to osha, approximately 1,000 americans die each day from sudden cardiac arrest.

  the majority of these occur outside a hospital and survival rates in the absence of an automatic external defibrilator are very low, (1 to 5 %).. .

  Veterans groups in our small city donated AEDs to the police deartment about a year before my husband's cardiac arrest. He was the first person the police used it on. A friend and I started CPR to no avail until the police arrived. My husband's pacemaker showed that he was dead a full five minutes. He wasn't revived until after being shocked eight times. Thankfully, he CPR that was done kept enough oxygen circulating that he did not get brain damage.

  I was told that AEDs only cost $3,000, (that was three years ago). It seems like a small price to pay to save lives.

  Another Pet Peeve About District Conventions

  well,i haven't been to a convention since i started posting here.

  but,since my family is attending one soon,i was having flashbacks.. one of the many things that would irritate me would be running into old, so-called friends.

  these are ones that while in the same congregation we were close,but then,once they moved,nothing.. and it's usually them just still living five minutes away,but since they go to another hall and can't be bothered now.

  Got a angry letter from our oldest son today we are very hurt from it.

  when i got home today from work my wife showed me a 5 page letter from our oldest son.

  he basically said he does not what anything to do with us because of all the wrong things we did as parents to him and his brother.

  he blames us for not being there for him and we are toxic parents.

  I'm sorry you two are going through this. I had a feeling that your unwell daughter-in-law was behind your son's anger upon reading this thread's opening post. She's a very mentally ill woman from what you've told me in private. Unless your son gets help from a real therapist, he is going to allow his wife, and the jw "therapist" by extension, to form his opinions.

  so my good ol soon to be ex father in law told me a few years ago (before i had told him of my horrible apostate ideas) about a "client" of his.

  my fil used to be involved in the insurance/finance industries.

  he had a lady client that was about 20 years older than him.

  i could be wrong, but i can't help but be a bit optimistic.last night my parents and i had our "family worship night".

  i hate it, and i believe my mother does too.

  my dad only does it because he's an elder but last night even he was acting like he didnt want to do it.

  I'm so happy for you! May I make a suggestion? Since your mom is not well, why not start FWN by reading some comforting scriptures to her and send her to bed early? Then you and your dad can research anything the two of you want....you on the internet and he with the Watch Tower publications. If your mom's problems are health related and may require a transfusion, the blood issue would be a good place to start.

  Advice on being an enabler to my unbaptized JW son

  ok i feel almost embarrassed coming to this board and asking advice about something that my common sence has already answered for me, but i hesitate because of possible fall out unique to jw issues.

  most of my posts on this board lately have been about my 21 year old son's involvment with the jw's encouraged by jw mom, both knowing i'm against what they teach.

  i've gotten some good advice on this board by some of you who answered a previous post of mine related to my concern of me being an enabler to my 21 year old son.

  He is no longer my responsibility and yet I continue to provide for him because he can't do it himeself.

  Bold mine.

  The fact is that he won't do it for himself. You're doing him a great disservice. If he wants money to hang out, he can earn it daily as a day laborer. Then he can pursue a regular job.

  Our son worked almost full time his last two years of high school. Even then he had to wait until age 18 to get his driver's license, because he failed to save $200 for driver's education. He paid his cell phone bill all along, and we gave him a car and paid for his insurance until he graduated high school (from November until May). Now at 24, he is self-suffiient.

  JW ex-boss is such a horrid man!

  ok, so my husband worked for this slave driver jw boss in a factory, and injured his back on the job.

  so my husband has launched a compensation claim against the jw boss's worker insurance for unsafe work practices.

  so the jw ex boss has responded to the claim with this mega statement affidavit thing.

  First of all, jws usually aren't loving to anyone when it comes to money or liability. Second, if Canada is similar to the US, Worker's Comp will pay for on the job injuries unless the injured worker was under the influence of drugs or alcohol or if the employee was playing around or rough housing. His insults about our husband make him sound stupid. After all, if your husband was such a terrible employee, why wasn't he fired before he hurt his back?

  i believe she needs some encouragement and well wishes.. mouthy, you don't need to respond to this thread if you don't feel up to it.

  just consider it an exceptionally long get-well card..

  I wanted to punch this elder so bad!

  so i decided to attend the meeting last.

  since i haven't gone in about 2 weeks, and i leave as soon as it ends, and elder decided to corner me at the end.

  lately i've been through some very depressing family issues that are non-jw related so i haven't been my best at acting like i care about the org.

  And oh he had made me very mad! I dropped my briefcase, clenched my fists and stared him dead in the eyes and asked, "who created my body?" To which he, taken aback replied "umm, Jehovah". "Okay" I said, "so in that body there's also a brain. Who gave me that brain?" Then the elder said, "um Jehovah." "And what's the main function of the brain?" Then the elder just stared blankly at me, and said "oh haha, I see what you're doing. You think you know a lot huh? But you don't my brother." So I said "if Jehovah tells us to do something, we obey correct?" "Correct!", he responded with another smirk. Almost mockingly. So then I said "what if Jehovah told you to think?" The elder's sly smirk went away. He just stood there. Speechless. Frozen. He had no answer.
  At that point I grabbed my briefcase and as I headed for the door I said, "THINK ABOUT IT." And left.

  Love, love, love your response! You are so smart for someone so young! I wish I would've been half as smart as you when I was your age. As for the depressing family issues, please don't let them fester. Talk to a counselor if you have to.
