  i feel at the moment to keep posting on this site is doing me no good.

  i used to post here many years ago and came across many things jw related that made me feel angry towards the way i was brought up.

  in particular the 607 issue and the generation change.

  At least with JWD you know that you won't be shunned. Best wishes to you on defeating the alcoholism and studying law. As for proof of the new light on elders and higher education, from what I understand, the directive is contained in the co's outline and not in a letter. However, just this morning, I found 2007 talks on YouTube that very much suggests that higher education is unnecessary and risky. Here they are:

  Welcome to JWD. So sorry for your angst. I was df'd 20 years ago and have been shunned by my mother and brother. Losing your religion is devastating, and being shunned is very much like a loved one dying. The pain never goes away completely, but it eases up in time. On the bright side, you can really open up your world and pursue things like education, community involvement and personal relationships with "worldly" acquaintances and relatives.   OK, let me explain....

  so, the last few threads i've written have been about telling your families and friends how you feel; many of you have given me the reasons you don't speak out to your families, but i want to tell you the main reason you should.

  please let me explain.... .

  i keep on stressing this point because how it makes you feel, i'm telling you all, that for over 19 years, i let information about my thoughts out slowly, then the tipping point... at my uncle's funeral 2 february's ago, while listening to my family pontificate at dinner about who so and so is pioneering and the like, it hit me that i was sick to the core of them throwing their bullisi*t beliefs at me like i was inferior or something.

  Jamie, there are always certain circumstances for each person... it's not easy on any of us, but we chose to do the right thing.

  Yes, I know that, but I think you missed my point. My point was that many jws, either active, faded or fading, have seen up close and personal, situations like mine. They have seen jw relatives turn on someone who was literally saving their own lives by leaving. Once you've seen something like that, you know with a certainty that some, if not most of your jw relatives will definitely shun you if you leave just because you no longer believe.

  Howver, I can see your point. Realistically, if all jws who wanted to or are in the process of fading would all leave at the same time, it would make quite an impact. But it's not realistic to think that could ever happen. People who are fading are experiencing enough fear and grief. As one who had the band-aid torn off all at once and having been out for 20 years, I would feel dishonest if I didn't tell people how it really is. Leaving is frightening and painful. Though it gets better, it never goes away. The closest thing I can compare being shunned with is experiencing the death of a loved one. The pain gets better with time, but it never goes away.

  JWs and Star Trek...

  one part of my experience with the jw's was that many of the elders in my congreagtion were die hard into star trek...i figured it was isolated to that one kh, but as i went to different ones, i noticed it was a lot of them.

  one elder explained his fandom as: "it makes me think of the new system.

  we will travel to other planets when the earth is full, and colonize the galaxy.

  ha, ha OTWO, you are soooo perceptive. Jws love Star Trek because of the skimpy outfits! I never would've thought of that. So tell, me, do they like James Bond movies as well?

  No, but I'm not a science fiction fan, so I may not have noticed. If this really is the case with jws in general, don't you think it's weird that they and the Mormons are fixated on going to other planets?

  Went to Victoria Secret and had a flashback of Conventions...

  this is probably silly, but i went to victoria secret to do my three month buy up of the usual female undergarments and it reminded me so much of the fake conventions and greetings.. hi!

  It just goes to show that all eager sales people are the same. Years ago I was browsing at a furniture store. After informing several salesmen of that fact, one started following me. He literally got hit in the face with the ladies room door when it swung back after I'd entered.

  Accusing someone of having a short attention span during a discussion is insulting, and then accusing that someone of not responding is harsh, especially since it wasn't true. You don't have to use vulgarity or name calling to be abusive. A wise woman once told me to be as kind as possible in every situation. No one is perfect, but it's worth giving it a try.

  Here's some feedback for you:

  How about some quid pro quo? By that, I mean, you start threads asking for advice, feedback, direction, support, etc., but you often don't respond to the answers. Your last thread went to 3 pages, but you didn't post again after initiating it.

  And this feedback may sincerely be helpful to you: Do you have an incredibly short attention span?

  I am either thick skinned or dense, because it takes a lot to hurt my feelings or offend me. But if the above quote was directed at me, I would be offended. I think the tone of the message is abusvie, and by the way, not true. Cognac, send this to Simon and see what he thinks. One way or the other, there are always negative people out there. IMHO, it's best to stand up for yourself the first time and avoid them in the future.

  Shock and Awe Doctrine/Changes- Watchtower Comments

  hey everybody, i wanted to compile some watchtower / book references of doctrine changes or absolutely horrific comments the watchtower has said to show to my soon to be ex husband (i'm trying to get him to drift, so far it is not working, like at all, but i'm hopeful.

  ) here's a good example of something that did shock him though!!!!
