  at one time in 1954 -70 the wtbts did not consider themselves as a religion, what did they consider themselves as?

  i remember as a kid i was told "no, we are not a religion.

  " because religion was called a snare and a racket.

  decades ago, when my brother was a teenager and i a young 20 something year old full of the truth, he got disfellowshipped for inappropriate behavior with his 17-year old girlfriend.

  he cried.

  my disfellowshipped dad told me leaving "the truth" had not been good for me as i used too much profanity and liked to drink.

  when i first became "free" i guess i went overboard with profanity and enjoyed the freedom to go to bars if i wanted.

  they were novelties.

  Don't drink at all, because if I do, one drink turns into MANY. Swear a lot, but it must be genetic. My dad is a creative cusser who mixes swear words together and with other words. The older I get, the more like him I become.

  years ago while living in israel i ordered crisis of conscious as i had been on the old h20 site prior to coming to jwd.

  after reading it i met a young man from las angeles who was from a jw family.

  he had left, gone to college and was a volunteer at the baha'i center where i was also serving.

  Should I mention the pedophiles?

  i have been asked to speak about my experiences at my church sunday to a group of 20-40 year olds.

  any suggestions on what to say?

  i'm especially considering if i should talk about the pedophiles .... .

  I would say definitely yes, and it can be inserted in the part where you talk about being married to an abusive jw husband. As a matter of fact, there are 2 new things in relation to child molestation in the organization. One is that the March 1, 2008 Watchtower featured Merton Campbell who was also featured in some of the 5,000 pages of court documents assembled by Barbara Anderson, where he for 30 years systematically covered up for and hid pedophile James Henderson, (who, btw, was convicted and sent to prison). The other thing related to child molestation is the fact that "Knocking" is going to be offered for free to the public school systems, which IMHO, is not a good way to introduce children of any age to jws. Relating that to your church may be a good way for parents and grandparents to contact their school boards and request it either not be shown or that a balanced view of jws be given. I already have a letter written to be sent to all of the churches and the school board in my city.

  Why don't you stay on middle ground and let her read Combatting Mind Control. You don't even have to broach the jw subject at first. Maybe suggest the recent news on the FLDS or that nutcase cult leader who was arrested in May for child molestation got you to thinking about cults. If she reads it or you discuss with her what you've read in it, maybe the jw subject could come up.

  i have a friend who has been at beth-hell since early in 1971. he is arthritic and went one time too many to the infirmary and finds himself with no job, no education, and no benefits after nearly 40 years working his butt off at brooklyn then at patterson.....please help me spread this video around.. thanks kids!.
