I've had it... I'm gonna do it.
by Darklighter ini'll be free from the bondage of the watchtower pharisees.. after over a year now of researching my belief in god and the watchtower society, i'm convinced that i can't live my life untill i'm out.. they finally just a few weeks ago deleted me as an ms, over six months after i asked them to.
that's a big relief.
they didn't get the hint from my 2 hrs.

Welcome to JWD, and at the risk of sounding like a broken record, please read Steven Hassan's book, Combatting Cult Mind Control before speaking to your wife.

Are Jehovah's Witnesses a Cult?
by digderidoo ini have found these 14 characteristics of a typical cult and below are some questions regarding the behaviour of a cult.
my personal opinion is that the watchtower society fits into most of these characteristics, with the exception of 1& 14. possibly part of number 10 fits, but not all.
i feel that all of the questions posed should be asked of jw's and all of the further symptoms apply too.

My personal opinion is that the Watchtower Society fits into most of these characteristics, with the exception of 1 & 14. Possibly part of number 10 fits, but not all.
1. Members swear total allegiance to an all-powerful leader who they believe to be the Messiah.
How would you explain the total allegiance to the WTB&TS?
10. Cults are anti-woman, anti-child, and anti-family.
How would you explain the systematic cover ups of domestic violence against women and sexual abuse of children and the breaking up of families through da'ing and df'ing?
14. There is frequently an aura of or potential for violence around cults.
No, there isn't violence, but there is a persistant secrecy (theocratic warfare) which does just as much damage as physical violence.

1. Systematic cover up of child sex abuse within the organization.
2. Systematic cover up of domestic violence within the organization.
3. Systematic emotional abuse of the rank and file through the use of mind control techniques.
4. Breaking up of families through the use of shunning.
5. Breaking up of marriages through the use of "spiritual endangerment".
6. Lying in court and to the authorities and to the press through the use of "theocratic warfare"
7. The WTB&TS is a publishing firm that uses false religion in order to maintain a free labor force for publication and distribtion of literature as well as a guaranteed customer base.
8. The use of an improper translation of a Bible that already lacks all of the sacred writings.
9. The employment of lack of freedom of expression and thought.
10.Causing unnecessary death by unscriptural and unscientific ban on blood transfusions.

Wanting to talk to my mom
by lostsheep82 inso now that i've read as much as i could in the last 2 months and made my decision that this isn't the organization i thought it was, i'm scared, terrified, and feel helpless in some ways.
my mom is a devout jw, a pioneer, her husband of the 'anointed', and they are very 'spiritually strong'.
i'm wanting to compile a mini book to send to her with all the reasons and proof from wt books and magazines with quotes and stuff.

Before you do anything, please read Steven Hassan's Combatting Cult Mind Control. What I've learned from reading it so far is that every instinct you may have in communicating the truth to someone in a cult is WRONG. After reading the book, maybe you could orchestrate a fade and then use some techniques to reason with your mom. I wish I would've had the opportunity to reason with my mom in ways that the book describes, but I was running for my life from an abusive, dangerously mentally ill jw husband when I got the ax.

Apostasy "seeing oneself as a victim denied"
by whereami ini found this on a pro-witness site http://pastorrussell.blogspot.com/2008/07/seeing-onself-as-victim-denied.html.
do you think this is a fair assesment of "apostates"?
i think he fails to see the whole picture.. .

This just another a**hole who is trying to deny the true victims in the organization. Apostates couldn't possibly have been motivated to become such, because they were abused children, battered wives or just part of the oppressed rank and file. Oh, certainly not. Apostates are just weak people who couldn't hack serving the true God, the WTB&TS. What a bunch of bull**it. This guy's arrogance transcends that of the rank and file only by using a better vocabulary.

are there many JW's that use or participate in the Welfare system, Food Stamps or other government support programs? I don't know how many do, but the jws I've known don't hestiate to work the system. Their anti-government stance ends when it comes to getting something for nothing.

You are 30 years old with a family of your own. If you allow your parents to pressure you into attending the assembly against your will, their next step will be to pressure you to start attending meetings again...then field service..then pioneering... and the list goes on and on and on. You don't have to go all apostate on them. Just simply say you aren't going. It is none of their business why you're not going. When pressured, just keep repeating, I'm not going, and I don't want to talk about it." They'll get sick of bugging you eventually.
