Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!! It's sad that your kids didn't remember. That happened to me one year. I was df'd, and my jw mom and brother were shunning me, so they wouldn't have marked the day even if they were allowed to celebrate. My dad and his sister, Shirley were the only family I was in contact with at the time, and I heard nothing from them. Feeling very sorry for myself, I called Shirley to ask why she didn't even send a card. She answered that she wondered the same thing about me. And then it dawned on me....her birthday was on the same day as mine. From that day on, we always made sure to send cards to each other until she slipped away in death.

WT Society Feels they are Above the Laws of the Land - Even in their own....
by flipper in...... words.
knowing that the candace conti child abuse case was probably coming down the turnpike as was the 5 out of court child abuse settlements the wt society settled in san diego, california - this past april as most of you know the wt society sent a secret letter instructing all elders to essentially keep their " pie-holes " shut ( mouths for those not hip to modern lingo ) and essentially instructed them to not divulge anything to any authorities investigating crimes or other information concerning wt organization operations.. someone posted a thread on this in april, however - with all the news coming out about wt child abuse coverups, the anonymous organization investigating the wt society , i felt it important to reveal some snippets of what the wt society instructed their elders regarding legal issues.
in one section it states, " when someone seeks confidential information : you should never reveal confidential information to anyone unless theocratic procedure requires it or the branch office has instructed you to do so.

The recent Anonymous data also suggests that they are involved with money laundering and tampering with the judicial process. I hope they are investigated and prosecuted.
DT, I read that too, but I'm not so sure it was one of the hacktivists that said it. It could have been anyone who wrote that, because anyone can register there and make comments. I did, but not about the money laundering.

Why is everything based on status in this organization?
Because the higher the status, the more you're doing for the Watch Tower for free.

The biggest perk of being df'd is freedom.
I saw Braveheart - back in the 90's - (I have a great story if the Troops on the Board are intersted) - in Ireland the weekend it came out.
Oh, do tell!

Who else, besides me?
by AK - Jeff inover the years on jwn i have often found myself hunting through posts of newcomers, hoping against hope i suppose, that the newbie would be one of my former friends in the local congregation down the street.. i just find it hard to imagine that not a soul among these people has taken the courage to investigate their religion and leave like my wife and i have done.. as the local 'active apostate', i also supposed that at any moment some of the 'brothers' would come covertly to my home, knock and say something like " i am out - please let's talk about it, why i left, why you left.
but, none of the above has ever happened.
i did come across a local former jw here, from another congregation, and we have become good friends over the past few years.

Open About My JW Past/Present
by EmptyInside ini think it's hard to share with new people in life, being raised a witness.
i never know when and if to bring it up.
now, just acquaintances,i don't usually talk about it.. but, with people, especially someone i may consider being in a relationship with,it's difficult to know the right time.

Knowing the funny, intelligent sweet young woman that you are, despite being raised in a cult, I don't think you have to worry about your jw past. If, by chance, it's a turn off for some guy, he isn't worth your tme and attention anyway.

There's a JWN poster who knows some of the jws I used to know years ago. And there's one JWN poster whose parents I knew many years ago. But best of all, my baby brother used to post here, but I introduced him to this site after he left the cult. I waited 18 years for that!
