Sparlockgate - the YouTube copyright clampdown continues!
by cedars inyou may remember some time ago i released a song entitled "sparlock we love you" on youtube.. the song was a parody of the "become jehovah's friend" dvd, and became very popular - with well over 10,000 views last time i checked.. i did consider the possibility that the society would complain on grounds of copyright infringement, because i used some specially-altered versions of images on the dvd, such as the one below.... .
however, i shrugged this off, because i thought even the society wouldn't be as petty as to publically complain about the way the images were used.. nevertheless, they did.
today i got the following email.... dear john cedars,we have disabled the following material as a result of a third-party notification from watch tower bible and tract society of pennsylvanias, claiming that this material is infringing:.

...but this is a major one because she is permanently changing her visible features...
Outsmartthesystem, as I stated in an earlier post, my stepson wore those awful gauges for probably a year. The holes were HUGE! Just this morning I carefully examined his earlobes, (he thought I'd gone completely crazy until I explained why I was doing it), and his earlobes are normal.

Better than "True Blood" - at least, in remaining somewhat 'true' to the original mythologies.
Zid, don't tell me you're dissing True Blood. Oh, it hurts my heart, dear friend! I am obsessed with that show. And at least it gets people thinking about mythology. I've looked up tons of stuff to learn more about it.

Love, love, love that show! The premise, the writing, the acting are all great. Plus it's kind of a home grown production. It's filmed in Portland, and the lead actor and tons of extras live there.
Edited to add: Let us know when your granddaughter will be on and what part she's playing, so we'll be sure to look for her.

Unexpected conversation with a long time JW friend (in good standing)
by OneDayillBeFree inso tonight after the meeting, this brother whome i've grown up with invited me to eat.
he had come almost an hour late to the meeting and looked kind of down and a bit depressed.
i agreed to go eat.. there was very little talking at first.

You did that perfectly! While encouraging him to fade, you avoided any hint of apostasy. So if he changes his mind about disappearing or goes back after doing so, he can't rat you out.

It would probably be much easier on you and your daughter if her mother and stepfather kick her out. Your daughter refusing to remove the gauges is an indication that she wants to leave. So, if it happens, go pick her up and move her in with you. But be forewarned; pick your battles with teenagers. Having helped to raise two of them, (a girl and a boy), gauges, going Goth, piercings, and tattoos are trivial. Save your fight for alcohol abuse, birth control, drug abuse, and eating disorders.
My stepson wore HUGE gauges in his ears. It looked like shit, and I worried about infection. But he removed them when he got tired of them, and seven years later, his earlobes are fine.

@jamiebowers: If you were to read everything on the site.. you'd see that elders are required to report even alleged abuse if it's mandatory under the law to do so.. or even if not legally required to in some circumstances. Otherwise the victim can go to the authorities themselves, which is best if they are adults, or elders can accompany children to report to the police if necessary. If you think that all allegations should be reported, whether the victim wants it to be or not, okay. But consider the possibility that..telling elders that they HAVE TO report every allegation of anything that falls under the local laws definition of child abuse...regardless of the circumstances of the case or the wishes of the victim and their families.. Might be unbalanced? http://thirdwitness.com/childabuse/Mandatory.html
I know the elders are required to report it IF required by law. First of all, why the "if"? Why not do it in all states? Second, there are many reports from elders that say the Watch Tower instructs them to call from pay phones and give as little information as possible. Why is that? And don't give me that "the victims can go to the authorities themselves". There are news reports from all over the world where victims have said that elders discouraged and even threatened them about going to the police. If the Watch Tower didn't have anything to hide, there wouldn't be a question of reporting or not reporting. Even if the victim or family doesn't want it reported, the humble thing to do is to report it anyway. This is what teachers, counselors, etc., are required to do. Child molestation accusations are best put in the hands of experts in law enforcement and social work and not left in the hands of untrained elders under the delusional, deceptive direction of the Watch Tower.
