Hmmm, why are the WTS sites down?

just wanted to see if on either watchtower.org or jw-media.org there was anything mentioned about the tragedy last week.

both sites were down.. wonder if they're for a change actually going to put something on the sites that is sympathetic without a "by the way, this is what god's word has to say".

There's an interesting thread down a bit by messenger that compares the first press release that they had up to a revision that was posted yesterday. Both will make you sick, I recommend viewing on an empty stomach.

I tried to get onto the sites too as stories are being bandied around this area now that they are helping 'hundreds' of rescue workers with a place to stay. I haven't been able to confirm this story, though it came from a close relative and they heard it 'directly' from their CO.

If it is true perhaps they want to make sure the world knows. kind of a 'see! We are humane!' kind of thing. too little too late.

my sister just called me, with the idea of 'comforting' me wt style (bad idea *lol*) i shut her down by saying "i respect that these are your religious views, but they are not mine.

" that managed to shut her up finally.. before that, though she volunteered this info, i was wondering if anyone can confirm it?.

The thing is, I can't believe that if they DID do this that they haven't announced it at the meetings yet. Maybe it's too soon. I have to check out their media site today and see if anything is there, you know they'd be blowing their horn about it.

If they did, I say good. Everyone else is helping, they should too.

still curious if anyone can positively verify this.

Before that, though she volunteered this info, I was wondering if anyone can confirm it?

She said that their C.O. was visiting this week and that he is in 'constant contact' with Bethel. He stated that they "opened up their facilities to 900 firemen" who would have had a hard time going back and forth from ground zero otherwise.

She also said that they had a 'special' announcement at the bookstudy about throwing out all other preaching campaigns that have been suggested in the literature and until further notice to 'comfort' people with the tracts, magazines that have already been mentioned in previous posts here.

I told her to be careful offering any such 'comfort' to my husband, who was deeply offended by the WT depictions of of Armageddon destroying far more than were killed in NY. Her response was a typical JW knee-jerk reaction..."Well we know that is the way its going to be."

*gag*

Maybe if I keep repeating to her that I have no faith whatsoever in WT doctrine she'll get the point and leave me alone?

Curious to see if anyone with inside info can confirm what her circuit overseer said.

Another PR Screwup

well it appears watchtower just blinked...... again.

on 9-11-01 the official press release was criticized on many levels.

it appears criticism came from several sources as the 9-16-01 version of the 9-11-01 press release had seven changes from the original.

FABULOUS post messenger! I'm going to link this thread to the front page of my site where before I had linked it to the original press release.

Boy, they really must be lurking here. Since all the JW's I talked to thought they handled the situation just fine...could it be our voices crying out from the 'outside' of the gates that made them uncomfortable when they realized how horrible their remarks sounded?

This post is definitely a keeper. Great job!

will the overwhelming media attention generated by last tuesdays events and the eminent threat of war divert attention away from the importance of the upcoming dateline expose?

teejay...you brought tears to my eyes. I have been looking at my daughter through different eyes this week. She is only nearly six, and this week changed her future more than any of us can imagine.

I think of how naive I was when she was born. Even though I already had doubts about being a JW, I'd been programmed since I was in the womb, and I never imagined that we'd see the year 2000 in "this system". I never imagined she might grow up in war time.

My hopes are the same as yours, that our future will turn out all right in the end, for all our children, if not for our generation.

I too want to add my words of respect and admiration for the work that you do. It takes very special souls to do such work, and you are most definately such a soul. I cannot imagine what you have been through in the past days.

I hope that you will be able to rest, as others have said. Please know that we're here to listen if you need to talk about what you've seen. You're surely going to need lots of support after the clean up is over and the reality of an unreal situation sets in.

I still can't believe any of this has happened. It's unbelievable.

Firefighters and rescue workers have always, always been my heroes. Now, that respect has grown a thousand fold.

Thank you seems so insufficient a phrase for our gratitude for all you have done.

Amazing piece of writing, April, thanks for sharing it here! Please tell your friend that my heart aches thinking of the suffering of the innocent in her homeland.

I'll tell you what...I wouldn't want anyone bombing the hell out of the US just to kill Timothy McVeigh...or anyone like him.

Mom's (typical) Jw reaction to tragedy

Mom: Good! What goes on outside has nothing to do with us.

Me: Their own web site said,

Mom: We don't have a website! It's all apostate things on the internet! Why do these malcontents have to pick on the Witnesses? I'll tell you what! Give them my phone number, I want to just once look in the face of our accusers!

I'm sitting there thinking, Mom, you're looking at one. Its only a matter of time until she brands me as an apostate, if she hasn't already behind my back. I couldn't care less.

Other 'gems' from our conversation:

Mom: I'm excited...things are finally starting to happen. I think that I'm finally going to have the chance to see my Dad again. I was beginning to think it would never come. But this is it, the beginning of the great tribulation.

I'm trying so hard not to gag here. She spewed a lot more in the hour or so she ranted, but I can't bear to recall it all. All I can tell you is, a zealot is a zealot: whether they're flying planes into buildings or waiting for God to do their killing for them.

Oh, one more thing she said.

"If I have to die for Jehovah, well that's what I'll do. I put my trust in Him. I don't care if imperfect men are leading us. My trust is in Jehovah. We will all either live or die for Him."

"And what flavor will the Kool Ade be?" I said under my breath. She didn't hear me, but my father did.

And he looked very sad. Because he knew as well as I did that if they handed her a glass, she'd drink it.

Thanks, Tally! His mouth is still hanging open from your previous post. On top of that, the story about the GB locking Bethel up made him actually shout out loud (and he's a really quiet guy!)

All of this definitely insures that he will never show the least bit of interest of joining the cult...and I'll never go back.
