  hi my name is nikola and i just would like to find out more about the faith really.

  my history is that i am brought up in the christian faith by my grandparents in the united reformed church.

  then stopped going when i was 10 years old.

  WTBTS money making for who?

  there is a lot of talk on here about the wtbts a money making organisation.. maybe, but who is this money going to?.

  like a friend "in the truth" lol said, it's all put back into the work.

  and who would want to be a missionary, they don't get any money out of the society etc etc.. so who reap the rewards here then?

  ive given my previous reply a bit of thought :in the UK theyre a registered charity and most congs are a charity in their own right.

  there are strict rules about what can be done with funds that are clearly labelled for a purpose - eg World Wide Work or Congregation Builds etc. I'm an accountant and I audit charities and i have to check to make sure that the funds are being spent as expected. I have no idea why money in AWOLS cong would go missing unless it was way before the days that funds were always announced.

  in our cong when the accounts were read out the money being saved for a new hall was always set out seperately. we also had elders who disagreed with quickbuilds because they said they were more expensive in the long run than a trad build due to less shoddy work and shortcuts.

  i'd say that lots of the money is in real estate. i dont think that loads of people are creaming off are they?

  i disagree with LOADS of stuff the borg does and doesn't do - eg child abuse coverups, not supporting the actual victims, maipulating what people say and think, how theyre right and everyone else will die, shunning people who havent really done much wrong, saying an education and saving for future is bad and then kinda changing their minds when its too late for most...

  but since the "free" literature the rich are funding the other countries where they cant afford the literature...aren't they? so isnt that where the money goes?

  or am i being REALLY dumb? how much does a member of the GB or a CO or a DO actually get per annum in money equivalent - does anyone here know?

  Its snowing in BRITAIN..........disaster !!!!!!!!

  well the uk got 3 inches of snow last night and the country came to a standstill.

  schools all round birmingham closed, luton airport closed, people were advised not to take unnecessary journeys whew........................ive lived in a country where it snowed a foot in one night and then continued for days and days and then it stayed for 4 months.

  the schools would never shut and the trains and buses (yep the same ones as the uk) kept running, oh and so do the airports !

  i spoke with my jw friend yesterday and was very surprised when she was discussing a woman in her cong that is committing adultry.

  i know the woman and told my friend i am surprised they didn't df her years ago.

  she cheats on hubby on a regular basis but nothing seems to have been done about it.. so, i said, "let me ask you this.

  I agree with onlycurious - how come she associates with her knowing what she's doing and would only drop her if shes disfellowshipped - that just doesn't make sense! according to the dubs she should shop her anyway surely?

  Wish Me Well: Surgery Tomorrow

  well, i did my best with physical therapy but it's not enough.

  my knee is very unstabile (especially since i fell again 6 weeks ago).

  tomorrow i'm scheduled for knee surgery to repair my acl..

  glad it went well and even though youre on crutches for 4 weeks more than you wanted at least they spotted the tear now so it didnt turn ugly later. wishing you a speedy recovery (and all the best in your new career of orthepoedic device model! lol)

  Was It Easy For You To Leave "The Truth"?

  No it wasn't easy - it took me 6years after i had shopped my dad for molesting me and he got the support and not me. It was slow because i was depressed and had no self worth. Plus i knew i would lose all my friends and family (i hoped i wouldnt but knew in my heart i would lose everyone but my mom and i was right) Very difficult to motivate yourself then! I started out trying to make non jw friends (i had no idea how to this and it didnt really work cos i had no people skills and no idea how to speak to non witnesses) and in the end met simon the most wonderful man ever. he supported me, held me when i cried, got angry on my behalf, let me discover my self, let me make all the first moves, respected me when i said "no" (i did say "no" lots even though i always made the first move, just to make sure). I lost my friends and all my family but my mom but it was worth it just for simon alone. My self worth is so much better. I dont get depressed and daydream of suicide. I have a completely different life. I'm slowly getting better. Then it will be REALLY worth it.

  if teenage minds aren't being stimulated by the xbox or wii then it has to be myspace or another online distraction.

  when did you ever catch your child just kicking back and thinking, or - perish the thought - reading!.

  Do CO's and DO's get paid for what they do? I bet the GB draw a salary of somesort? Good Question - will look again when someone with more knowledge than an expublisher female who never questioned anything!

  17 Year Olds

  you 'kids' are strong, strong people.

  i'm not just referring to those of you who are 17 now, but those who left or simply woke up from the wt garbage at such a young age and are now adults.. from what i've seen here over the last 2+ years, it seems to me like jw's treat their children like they are foster kids.

  some foster kids (& some adopted kids) i knew throughout school were kicked out or left home around the ages of 16-17, and were put into independent living programs by the age of 18. their parents wanted nothing to do with them afterwards.

  So true - i didnt have the strength to leave when i was 17, how i wish i had. i still send the young hurt me lots of hugs though - she was very depressed and unhappy
