I think your link has a virus. I clicked on it and my computer got infected with a bunch of different spyware applications. I had to use system restore to clean it up.

I'll take the opinions of trained scientists over the opinions of laypeople on matters of science (such as climate change) any day of the week. If I feel sick, I'm going to take the advice of a doctor over that of some untrained person. Haven't doctors been wrong before? Yes, but they're word is more reliable than that of people with no training in the matter. There has not been a credible scientific study that has been presented in a peer-reviewed scientific journal debunking the seriousness of climate change. Does that mean that we all need to stop driving cars right now? Probably not. There are many disputes among scientists about the seriousness of the problem and the role humans are playing in accelerating the problem, but there is no debate amons scientists about the fact that climate change exists. Even climate change's arch nemesis, George W. Bush, recently called for a plan to cut emissions. Get with the ballgame, folks. The conspiracy theorists that claim that climate change is one big conspiracy are being marginalized more and more every day. If you want to keep your heads in the sand about the problem, go ahead. That's your right. But don't claim that the problem isn't real. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but not their own set of facts.

1914 - Is this literature still current ?
by AlphaOmega inthis is strange, i read that in 1995 they did away with the "generation" teaching, yet the official watchtower website still says this, over 12 years later !.
thus, all the features of the last days must take place within the lifetime of one generation, the generation of 1914. so some people who were alive in 1914 will still be alive when this system comes to its end.
that generation of people is now very advanced in years, indicating that there is not much time left before god brings this present system of things to an end.. http://www.watchtower.org/library/pr/article_07.htm.

The brochure was published in 1993. The "new light" came in 1995. My guess is that somebody at headquarters goofed and didn't realize that the old teaching was still on there before they put it up on their website. There is a lot of literature that is still being distributed that contains "old light".

NEW policy! NO LIT for EX-JWs!
by MinisterAmos init's official; they read the letter tonight that puts forth the new procedure.
if you find an expelled person in the field or are studying with one, you are no longer permitted to give them lit.
presumably the elders make a decision if an expelled one is regularly attending meetings, but only they can give them lit.

This is purely speculation on my part, but do you think it's possible that they've counted up the attendance for the Memorial, were unhappy with the results, and are trying to cut back further on negative publicity by making their publications less accessible to the public?

I don't get it. We were always instructed not to talk to disfellowshipped people when out in service. I don't think I ever heard of anyone giving a disfellowshipped person a study.

You know what else reminds of WTS tactics? Using loaded words such as "tree huggers" to vilify and ridicule people that have different view points from your own. Nice job, goat.

What was your 1st Deception as a JW?
by JH inwas was the first thing that really decieved you, in your jw years?.
was it the way you were treated, or maybe a teaching that deceived you ?.
i think my 1st deception was when they said that the resurrected ones wouldn't be allowed to get married in the new system.. then i wondered why ???

The Brotherhood goes back & forth on that one- why does it bother you? Can't think for YOURSELF? Can't listen to the scriptures?
No, Martian, unfortunately we didn't think for ourselves as Witnesses. Tell me, do you honestly think you are encouraged to think for yourself and listen to the scriptures as a JW? What if you think for yourself, listen to the scriptures, and decide you like the Society's previous version of "truth" on that subject? How well do you think that would sit with the elder body? Isn't it true that you would be disfellowshipped for apostasy if you shared that belief with other members of the congregation? It's only on the outside that people begin to think for themselves.
This independent thinking that you seem to applaud leads a lot of them to understand that the JW system of belief places an earthly organization between men and Jesus. This independent thinking also leads them to see that JWs have continually changed doctrines and made failed predictions throughout their history under the guise of new light (a justification picked out of context from one verse in the book of Proverbs). I suggest you nurture this spirit of independent thinking and objectively analyze the arguments made on this forum. I commend you if you do. Unfortunately, the JWs stifle this very spirit of independent thought you verbally embrace by forbidding its members from reading this material. Think things through and realize who really can and cannot think for themselves.

Racism within the borg
by icyestrm inacts 10:34 speaks of god as not being partial.
in the majority of pictures, the married couples are only of the same race and none of them are mixed.
i noticed that in other pictures of the so-called paradise, its segerated amongst races too.

Every JW construction project that I ever went to looked the same way: you'd have Hispanic brothers doing the back-breaking labor and a bunch of white brothers walking around with hard hats and clipboards. This is a generalization, but it was mostly true. What I mean is that I'm not saying that there was never a white brother doing the physical labor or a Hispanic brother walking around with a clipboard, but by and large this was the case at every quick build or assembly hall construction project I ever witnessed. Most of the kingdom halls I was familiar with had their pioneer ranks filled to the brim with blacks and Hispanics. The elder body? Well, they were composed mostly of white brothers.
As snakes said, "Is it racism or human nature?" Well, I guess the answer you arrive at depends largely on whether you are white or a person of color. I always found this to undermine the organization's claim of impartiality.

I suspect the push to build kingdom halls is just to add to their real estate empire. They have virtual control over the ownership of these properties, so why not take advantage of the free labor to add to their coffers?

Has anyone ever played with a ouija board?
by delilah inthis past weekend, we met a new couple in our campground, and the conversation soon came 'round to the supernatural.
the lady said she has had quite a few supernatural experiences, and that she plays her own home-made version of the ouija board.
my husband was all excited and begged her to play .

Well, I'll just say that there are a lot of people that claim to have had experiences with the occult and/or the paranormal. I have never experienced any of it; although people I grew up with claim that such things happened all around me. There are people all over the world that believe in angels, demons, UFO's, crop circles, Bigfoot, the Lochness Monster, etc. None of this has ever been proven. Can any of this ever be disproved? No. It's virtually impossible to prove a negative. However, I have to continue to work under the assumption that none of this is real. If somehow, someday I experience this, maybe I'll change my mind. But I'll probably go in for a psychiatric evaluation before I do. It might just mean that I'm becoming schizophrenic.
