As to accounts servants, it depends on their ability and the complexity of the funds they handle. I have seen men unqualified to handle their own funds put in charge of the congregation's and men who dipped into the till once too many times.
This is so true. I was part of the accounts dept. years and years ago. The Account Servant did not have a clue what was going on. Simple things like making out the weekly deposit and filling out the monthly accounts reports were made into hours-long affairs. It was one of the most frustrating things to go through. He was a nice guy, but simply was not qualified to do even the simplest bookkeeping tasks required by the Society. The elder that audited the accounts every three months was not much better. He would just go through the checklist provided by the Society and check through all of the boxes even though he knew full well that we weren't following all of the Society's instructions. Stealing from the congregation would have been so easy; that's how bad their bookkeeping was. Of course, I never did and I fully would have expected lighting to strike me had I tried.
One year the congregation assigned a new MS as part of the team. We had been together for hours trying to "figure out" why we couldn't get the sheets to balance. I pointed out the reason, but my explanation did not satisfy the Account Servant. Finally the newly-appointed brother got fed up and raised his voice. It was about 2 a.m. at that point. He told them I was right and that they were stupid for taking so long (paraphrasing). He was fairly educated, so he knew that I was right. The Account Servant couldn't balance his own checkbook. The Account Servant was intimidated and just went along with it. He never understood the reason why the sheets weren't balancing, but he just caved in after awhile. It had something to do with the fact that he didn't understand that a payment was made in a prior month for the following month's services, but I don't remember the details.

While I was watching the movie I wondered if the Governing Body is like the town elders. Did they at some point discover that the whole belief system is a myth but decided to keep up appearances because they somehow feel they are advancing the greater good by "protecting" their followers from the evils of the "world?"

I'm graduating tommorrow
by Shawn10538 init's been a nine year battle, but i'm finally graduating from college with a bachelor's degree and a certificate.
it's important to me that this community knows that.
there are probably a lot of you here who didn't allow themselves to go to college.

Congratulations. I denied myself the opportunity to go to college because the end was right around the corner and I needed to put the kingdom interests first. When I realized it was all a farce, I went back as an adult. I graduated from college with a bachelor's degree 10 years after I graduated from high school. Again, congratulations. We are all very proud of you.

on April 3rd only two months ago he blew his head off! I have been trying to figure out why. Lots of people live at home with there folks or have marriages end. They don't blow their heads off.
if they really beleived all the bullshit they were taught about paradise and what God thinks of suicide, there is no way they would have done that. That's my take on what happened. He didn't even leave a suicide note.
I'm sorry to hear that, Tyrone. What goes on in a lot of congregations is really cruel. Depression combined with JW theology is a recipe for disaster. JWs can really become bogged down with guilt over their failure to live sin-free or perfect lives. They might convince themselves that they are not worthy of serving Jehovah and feel like there is no possible way they will survive Armageddon and make it into the New System. I've been there. When this view is combined with severe depression, the JW might decide to go ahead and put themselves out of their misery immediately instead of prolonging the pain. What's the use? You're not going to make it into the New System anyway. It's not necessarily that they don't believe in the teachings anymore. That's my perspective on it. Sadly, stories of JWs taking their lives are all too commonplace.

Sheep, other sheep, other other sheep, Three classes of sheep?
by garybuss ini got this message from a forum member.. i think you may be confusing the wts' understanding of the "sheep" of matthew chapter 25 (who have not yet been separated from the "goats") and the "other sheep" of john chapter 10. the two groups are not (i.e.
no longer) considered synonymous.. .
what am i missing?

Tell us what you really think neverendingjourney , we want to know.
I clearly indicated that I was joking. I thought there'd be some humor in posting a typical JW answer to this type of question. Maybe you didn't find my joke very funny
Your post poses an interesting question, but I have no answer for you because there is no logic to this teaching. JW theology doesn't make sense in general.

This reminds me of an episode of South Park where God punished Saddam Hussein by sending him to heaven, a heaven that was populated only by Mormons. They were all wearing their black pants/skirts and white shirts and were telling Saddam "welcome, brother." LOL Saddam certainly didn't like it.

I think I would be able to reach a more certain conclusion if I had a background in psychology. It seems to me that there might be some psychological issues at play with the men running the show that complicate the matter, perhaps megalomania or delusions of grandeur. Does anyone with a background in psychology care to give their opinion?
