WHAT'S GOING ON AT E-WATCHMAN???

every now and then i'll drop by e-watchman to see what's up.

the administrator/moderator is throwing people off his board like crazy.

Wow! I haven' spent much time on e-watchman, but I just watched Robert King's video on his book's website. The guy looks and sounds like a regular dub to me. He uses the same porous logic that all JWs use. http://jehovah-has-become-king.com/word-from-author.html

He starts off his video by saying:

"It’s becoming more apparent by the day that a time of great trouble lays just ahead for us. In fact, no civilization has ever been confronted with the peril that is now looming."

Ughh..just exactly why is that so apparent? No civilization has ever been confronted with the peril that is now looming? Really? Tell that to the American Indians!

It's stupid. It's the kind of talk that rallies fellow believers, but will not sway the minds of people that don't already believe as he does. His logic is just not that convincing. He anticipates objections and then lists off a bunch of factors that prove that our times are special, like none ever before. They are all things that could potentially happen in the future. Not anything that we are actually seeing today.

He later says something along the lines of: who can deny that the conditions are just as those in which the four horsemen are to appear? I can. You can point to any time period and claim that the world conditions are just as the Bible described would be the case during the "last days." It seems to me that Robert King was a frustrated dub who felt that he should be rising faster in the JW ranks. He probably got laughed at and decided to try to fill his need for attention by beginning an online movement.

What's going on in this picture? It looks like that guy has on denim pants out in field service. That would never fly at any congregation I'm familiar with. Neither would his hat or sunglasses.

I saw another similar article and there was a picture of a woman out in the door-to-door work with a denim skirt. Are these real witnesses or newspaper employees posing for a shot for the article? Is the society loosening up or are they trying to put a more moderate face out to the public?

he wanted to know my story, if i am disfellowshipped and if i have an axe to grind, in order to know if the information at jwfacts.com can be trusted.

i was raised a jw, my aunty and uncle, many cousins and grandparents are jws.

We all have various opinions on religion, philosophy, and politics. There is often heated debate about these very issues. However, we have all experienced hardships due to leaving the cult. The most helpful part of this forum has been reading other ex JWs experiences. It's really helped me see that I'm not alone and that many people are going through the same situation. Thanks again.

i just bought a bottle of wine for an exjw's 30th that i am about to run off to.

I never got the chance to live, experience life and form good memories to reflect upon and laugh at later. My childhood sucked. I spent it locked up inside my house playing Nintendo because my parents wouldn't let me associate with any "worldly" kids, and I never wanted to hang out with JW kids. I cherish the few memories I have of playing at my best friend's house when I was in junior high. My mom caved in a few times and let me go over, but it was very infrequently that she did.

I never got the chance to go to hang out with friends in high school, go out on dates, play in team sports or go to prom. Instead, I was a loner who spent any free time in the library in order to avoid "worldly association."

I wish I didn’t have overbearing parents so that I could have gotten physical with that girl that wanted to jump my bones in junior high. I wish I had listened to that really hot girl that wanted to jump my bones when I was 19. Or that other really hot waitress that wanted to jump my bones when I was 21. I wish I had more relationships under my belt. Instead, I’m in my late 20s and I have no idea how to approach women. I can't use the ol’ "what congregation do you go to" line to break the ice. I'm something of a retard when it comes to the dating scene.

The past is the past. The only thing I can hope for now is to make some memories from now on and hope I have something interesting to tell my kids if and when I have any.

I used Netflix a while back, and I was really pleased. I had to cancel because I didn't have time to watch a lot of movies anymore, but I did notice that it was taking a lot longer to get a movie back in the mail.

I wouldn't use Blockbuster because they are an evil corporation. I hate them. They used to turn people over to collections all the time for nominal late fees. They also had a huge scandal over their new "no late fee" arrangement. They weren't telling people that they would have to pay for the movie if they didn't turn it in a week or so after the due date. They got hit with a class action lawsuit because of it. I just hate Blockbuster in general, so I wouldn't be able to give you much advice as far as the quality of their online service.

my disfellowshipped buddy (his second time) is going through a rough spot.

he is on his way to his second divorce, he is facing multiple felony counts and one misdemeanor stemming from his chemical imbalance-and-asshole attitude-influenced rage.

he's on disability at 29 years old, but the payments can't cover his mortgage and other bills since his wife left with the children, one of which is not his, since she cheated on him during the previous separation.

I've noticed the belief among JWs that anything that speaks negatively about the society is "apostate." It doesn't matter who the source is. The thing about that is that there is absolutely no Biblical support for that position. I know they twist scriptures around to say active JWs should not read anything published by former JWs that turned away from the faith, but there is absolutely no support to say that you should not read criticism from people that have never been JWs, nor have I ever seen the society specifically say that. Jesus constantly preached to people that were opposed to his message. However, most JWs are so superficial in nature that they don't care about the Biblical reasoning. They just want to know what they can and can't do. The society clearly makes it known that they don't like for their members to read anything negative about their religion, and that's the message most JWs read and accept.

That's not to say that certain people can't make money off of a non-profit corporation. For instance, a charity like the United Way has employees that are in many cases paid a lot of money. They can give perks to employees and write it off as salary or expenses. According to wikipeida:

"The primary difference between a nonprofit and a for-profit corporation is that a nonprofit does not issue stock or pay dividends, (for example, The Code of the Commonwealth of Virginia includes the Non-Stock Corporation Act that is used to incorporate nonprofit entities) and may not enrich its directors. No. They are not a publicly traded company. They have several corporations that they use, which are registered as non-profit corporations.

I wasn’t around for 1975. My parents became Witnesses during the early 80s, when I was a child. I remember that people back then felt a real sense of urgency and imminence about Armageddon. The generation teaching was still in effect. They had a real, tangible window of time to point to.

I bought into the JW garbage and got baptized in the mid 90s. However, I never believed that the end was right around the corner. I thought JWs were the one true religion, but I was waiting for “new light” to clarify things. There was enough there that I liked to make me think they were the truth (trinity doctrine, immortal soul doctrine, preaching work, etc.) There were just too many things that needed to happen in too short a period of time for me to believe the end could come tomorrow.

After the 95 generation change, I got the feeling that most JWs I knew didn’t feel in their hearts that the end was near. They might preach that from the platform or in the preaching work, but they didn’t really believe it. Not like JWs did in the early and mid 80s. I think most of those that are left stick around because they’ve dedicated too much of their lives to be willing to concede that the religion is a sham. They, like I once did, probably hold on to the few things that make sense in their mind and justify sticking around because of the where-else-can-we-go mentality. Plus, they have a theocratic hierarchy with positions to chase after that keeps them busy in JW work, which in turn keeps them too busy to think about other things. Closing yourself off to any non-JW sources of information also helps keep them brainwashed and walking in step with Brooklyn.
