If they did all those things you mentioned and transformed themselves into a more mainstream religion, such as Catholicism, then I would most likely go back from time to time and call myself a Jehovah's Witnesses again, even though I now consider myself to be agnostic. Why? Because it would provide comfort to my parents in the latter stages of their lives to think their son is "right with God" and it's just more acceptable in society in general for a person to have some sort of religious affiliation. But you're right, it's not going to happen.

IF.....
by AK - Jeff inthe jw's brought doctrine into a form you could tolerate, reformed the religion to allow better tolerance of those who disagree, and made prolific apology to those whom it has hurt [i know that some have been hurt that are not any longer with us, etc.
that's not my point.
], would you forgive them, and if you still believe in god, would you consider going back?

New Generation Understanding
by momzcrazy inhello everyone, i am new here and newly freed from the snare of wtbs.
my sister, also newly freed, said our mom told her at the annual meeting there was a new "understanding" on the generation confusion.
it is now the annointed that will not pass away.. has anyone else heard this?

I'm sorry to hear about everything you went through, momzcrazy. I'm glad you eventually came to realize that the truth the Watchtower offers is just an illusion.
What we know of the new light on the generation teaching so far is based solely on different accounts of what transpired at the annual meeting, but can anyone figure out how this new teaching is supposed to indicate that Armageddon is even closer than we thought before?
It's clear to any reasonable person that this is just a huge CYA move by the society to account for yet another failed prophecy interpretation. They are simply explaining their way around the whole generation mess and rearranging it to where it can never be proven wrong again. Armageddon can now be hundreds or thousands of years away. The generation that will never pass away is now the anointed and the calling for the anointed no longer stopped in 1935, but is now open again with no foreseeable end in sight. I certainly hope that this shakes up enough fence-sitting JWs and helps them make the decision to leave this wacky religion once and for all. Look for the society to prepare for this by claiming that a great "sifting" or "cleansing" of Jehovah's organization has to occur before the end. SSDD.

New generation change: blaming rank & file again?
by Ozner inthe worst part of the "1995 generation change"- implementation was for me personaly the watchtower study-article defining the new (or changed) doctrine.
the article mentioned that rank & file witness "thought" that the generation was related to 1914 because they want it so.
it hurted me deeply and i am still agry (12 years later!)..

It really makes think of how an abusive husband treats his battered wife, blaming her for the beatings his gives her. After a while, these women start to believe they're at fault. So do many Witnesses.

I was taught that "fundamentalism" was a term that was coined within the past 100 years to describe a movement within Christianity that rejected religious schools of thought that viewed the Bible as being allegorical in nature, as opposed to literal. When Islamic terrorism began to really enter the public consciousness, many people simply took the fundamentalist label and applied it to the Muslims who interpreted the Quran in such a way that allowed terrorist attacks against civilians. A more precise term describing ultra conservative Muslims is "Islamism" or "Islamists." Fundamentalist Muslim, as I understand it, is a term that simply adapts a pre-existing Western concept to Islam when there were already precise terms to describe Muslims who view their sacred texts as being the literal word of God.

You're right. Fundamentalism is a word that is taken out of context so much that it has almost taken on an entirely new meaning. I often hear the term "Muslim fundamentalist" and cringe. What they really mean is "militant Muslim" or "Muslim terrorist", but they choose to use the word "fundamentalist" instead. The proper use of the word is limited to those Protestant Christians whose religious beliefs dictate that the Bible is infallible and each and every word of it was directly put there by God.

I support Danny and his work. What he did pales in comparison to what he has experienced personally, not to mention the arrogance and harm caused by this organization.
If you support pepper spraying two old guys in the face without provocation simply because they happened to knock on your door without your permission, then I seriously hope you get some professional help as well. People like you give the rest of us a bad name.

If a group of XJWs has been so quick to condemn Danny's actions, imagine what a jury would think.

Are we being conned re new light?
by why144000 ini have been reading with interest the news of the next change in the generation teaching.
does anyone have any substantive proof that this change will be made?
it could be a big con to get us all excited and tell others about it and reveal that we are, wait for it, apostate!!

A few years back, maybe 7 or 8 years ago, some new light having do with interpreting certain passages in the book of Ezequiel came out in a talk during a district convention. A few months later, it was the focus of a 2 part WT study. I don't really remember the specifics or how the new understanding was different from the old understanding, but I think it had something to do with a vision of the temple, or some such thing.

Any time there is new light, it's big news. I think it's good to be suspicious about unsubstantiated rumors, but the same information has been coming through from a few different people. Because of the multiple sources, I doubt the rumor is false. However, I won't be saying anything about it to my JW family until it's in print.

I don't think you you're scenario makes a whole lot of sense. How would the society separate those that found out about the annual meeting announcement from "apostates" from those that heard about it from JWs that were in attendance?
Anyone wishing to keep their fade in tact does well to keep their mouths shut for now, however. The question that JWs will ask if you tell them about the new light is how you found out. If you don't know someone who was present at the annual meeting, the logical assumption might be that you got that information from apostates.
