hi Anti-Christ! yeah, thats right in many cases. because someone who actually experienced it would not ask. i heard from somebody who heard from somebody that australia is a country somewhere south of asia. i wasnt there. but i do not doubt a bit that there isnt that mystical *australia*... :-D what i want to say is: thats no real argument... sadly...

thank you very much zico! the fact that members of the "false religion" also succeeds in calling their false gods makes a huge difference. i thought about that already, but never found any evidences for that. thank you for your suggestions.

Hi! I dont believe much of the Societys teachings anymore. But theres one thing that i carried with me all my life: When everything is false, what is about those stories about demons, seances and all that stuff that is out in the world? everything just made up? if there is just one evidence of paranormal activity it would convince myself that the bible is truth. and that would imply that im not allowed to ignore it. so if the society is wrong... what else could i do? im not that type of person who starts a new cult :D its not like stories about demons/ghosts/whatever are far away from me or out of the societies books only. my mother told me about a demon haunting a flat of a friend (everytime the friend left the flat and come back all doors were opened. even with witnesses (elders)). another story of a friend of mine is about a nuthouse he was working in. he told me that there were *some* patients who recognized him as a "servant of jehovah" without seeing him before. another story was about a seance a friend was watching (moving objects - she regreted it deeply to try that when she was young) and a knocking on the door of her bedroom the other night (while her friend was sleeping in the same room and heared it too) and the knocking went away forever when she shouted "please jehovah help me!". to tell the truth those occurences convinced me long ago to kick away my doubts away. later i doubted more and more things like kind of waking up. but this paranormal occurences always let me think: if any of these stories have a true background (and i trust every single person who told me that stories) i may be misled leaving the witnesses. im a fader and my mind is already shunned ;) but these keeps me thinking. what do think about that? do you ever experienced paranormal activities? have you heard stories about from friends/relatives? do you think that some of the stories are true? can you believe the bible and or jw's are wrong even if you believe there actually IS more that science can measure? Thank You for your comments (and sorry for my english ;() Marcel

Ran into a JW and DFed, DAed, or faded?
by pierogi inokay, i'm interested in experiences where you are dfed, daed or faded and you ran into a jw somewhere.
if you are dfed or daed, most likely they'd just ignore you.
this is unless you ran into them at work (like a restaurant, bank, grocery store) where it is there job to talk to you.

I am definetly a fader. But I have managed to fade very safely into a zone where I still associate with all my family. I don't share my views with anyone but my wordly husband and noone asks. Mostly everyone I know in the small town who are witnesses are very nice to me, as I was always well received in the congergation. However there are a few elders and distant cousins who are a little to righteous to make eye contact with me. I dont mind to much. Sometimes I'm in the mood to be extra sweet to them so they have to feel guilty for being rude to me. I do occasionaly get asked by some older sisters if I am ever coming back to meetings I just smile and say maybe. It just seems easier.
===================== (how can i make these nice quotations all of you do?)
hi twinkle toes!
seriously: i would give my left arm to let my wife being like you ;( im a fader myself (in the first stages. im still active in many ways... but with no fun and always just the minimum effort), but my girl just doesnt understand what i am saying. at the beginning she almost was angered to the extreme when i said bad things about the society shouting at me (and me shouting back then). its been better currently. we dont fight about it anymore and besides the religion topic everythings is fine. she got lazy going to service and things because i dont pull her anymore. but she is still a 100% believer. its like society == god. there is no room for any doubt that the society MAY not be what it says about itself. she doesnt even think about it. when i say something critical about the society she goes like: "dont you think it hurts jehovah that you dont love him anymore?"? and that she isnt the one to talk about those things because there are the elders. she doesnt understand why i dont want to speak to the elders about that topic. and if i dont im guilty for my own problems she says. speaking to the elders implies that i want to be "cured" of my thoughts. i would like a openminded discussion without any threats. not a lesson in faith and punishment if i dont pass the test...
im 25, raised in the faith and my whole family is in the truth (except some relatives far away). my mother would cry cry cry if she knows my thoughts. its so hard.

Hello!
im still a witness, but my mind is shunned, already. im staying for fear, since i dont have anything outside the jw's. im not a hardliner saying im sure jw's are wrong or god dont exists, but i confessed myself that i just dont know and i guess strongly that a menmade organization which behaves and acts like the WTS cant be the right.
okay, here comes the tricky part:
Do you (still) pray to God?
To my own surprise i still pray to God regulary. I pray to him for forgiving my doubts (if they're wrong), i pray for saying thank you for good things, i pray for help in my faith crisis (showing me the right way) and i pray when things arent nice and i need help. (btw.: sometimes when i prayed for guidance in faith i found new arguments against the WTS short after...)
i dont even know whether gods really exists (but i still think its a serious possibility), so my prayer may be a just-in-case thing. it doesnt cost me much so i pray without knowing whether someone hears me. the funny part is that i pray more than other witnesses in my household who are full believers.
but honestly i dont really know whether i pray. its just a feeling.
im very interested how shunned/doubtful/believing witnesses handling this.
did you stop praying at all, still doing it or did you never had any (imagined?) relationship to god?
Thank You

In the end, what will really matter?
by exwitless inin light of the current deep philosophical discussions whirling around, i thought i would post another topic to ponder.
hillary step motivated me to start this topic by this comment on another thread:.
if there is anything that i have learned in my 500 years of life, is that none of it matters much anyway.. we all end up in some dismal cemetry with drunken kids urinating on our tombstones anyway.

hi exwitless! ive never read a forum post which hits my very own thoughts so exactly as yours did. im still an (active) witness with serious doubts and it will probably end in shunning sometime (if i dont change mind in the next years). i wont say jw's are wrong, because i just dont know it. i DOUBT the WTS is gods channel highly "only" - it doesnt mean im fully sure they arent his channel (like 20:80). i just can go on pretending im a jehovas witness with sparkle in my eyes of happiness about the "slave". thank you for your thoughts! Would Blondie or Mary ever make it as Elders in your old Congregation?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inwe know the wts will never except woman as elders.in the last year as a member of jwd,i have learned more from blondie and mary than any elder in my congregation.all the elders in my congregation look like they go thru the motions.they are more like policy enforcers than teachers.. do you think that by excepting woman, some men would be embarassed to how little they know?
does the wts know some woman would better teachers?
is it more like a men's club?

Mary wrote: I was thinking the exact same thing. Unfortunately in the Organization, elders generally are not chosen for either displaying the qualities of Jesus, or for being intelligent. They are chosen primarily for being yes-men, for getting at least 10 hours of Service in each month and for not questioning procedures or anything that comes from the higher ups. And we all know that those elders that do display good qualities and turn to the bible for guidance instead of the Elder's Manual, will be eventually be forced out. What a shame.
mary, you're so right. i never thought in that way about it. but its perfectly true. on the men/women topic: i think it there IS a point of view where you can use the bible to backup the WTGs teaching on men and women. and i think if they would change it it could have a big impact. imagine two elders (different sex) having an affair... things would get complicated because they would need to seperate men and women elders when they need to do tasks... they shouldnt be alone sometime... then this overall sexwar... men and women often dont understand eachother thinking the other sex is "dumb, lazy, whatever". both sexes are often jealous on the other. what i want to say is: it would generate a bunch of new problems. so why should the wtg talk theirselfs out of this doctrine. there is none. most jw women seem to accept their role.
i dont think one sex is more able to lead. i know one elder who secretly searches the advice of his wife in heavy problems, because she is a intelligent one. but there are some fine men too.
the mainproblem is described by mary above. its the method to apoint elders. they doesnt need to be intelligent or have other qualities of jesus. they only need to have a somehow good reputation in the congregation, a minimum time in service, need to follow all rules without asking and the ability to hide their sins. ;)
sadly these requirements are also fulfilled by complete idiots. i know some of them. idiots who are alcoholics with no respect of their wife. just good hiding and some good numbers on a paper (and a daddy on a high position) and they become and stay elders. thats so sad.
i think a "unisex" elder would be better in many ways (do you remember those congregations where they have a crowd of women who could be an elder, but only 2 or 3 not qualified men who ARE elders?), but in the organizations current state it would cause a lot of problems. from embarrased men to much more elders having sex with eachother (i imagine a congregation where "elders meeting" means something completely different :D) -

Watchtower 2007 3/15 -- Is 1914 dropped?
by observer inwatchtower 2007 3/15 is very unusual.
it is titled (when freely translated) "how coming of the christ affects you?".
in the first article there is not speaking about 1914 or invisible presence.

this is so crazy. ive just read the 1984 article "1914 - The Generation that will not pass away". babys born in 1914 are 93 years old now. time runs out. the article says that gods prophecies never fail and state some examples from the scriptures. this change was very crazy. "new light" haha.

Mt 24:14 fulfilled - response from dubs and CO
by mavie ini was talking to a current jw about this issue.
i asked if they had heard about mt 24:14 being fulfilled, to which they replied 'no'.
had told them that the wt has said that scripture had been fulfilled a long time ago, which they did..... i then asked, 'so you *have* heard about mt 24:14 being fulfilled since your co is talking about it....'well, ya'.(!!
