ok, im putting my neck on the line here but ive always believed that children should be raised to make their own choice, if to serve jah or not.. i wasnt ever forced to believe in anything, any religion etc, although my background is very complicated.. anyway, hubby and i have always thought that how can a child decide if they dont know what other things are, ie birthday partys, halloween etc.
so, our children are allowed to choose if to go places etc.
last year our little boy said he didnt want to go to a halloween party, this year he said he might.
Have to say I'm with IA on this one. The claims are getting entirely too fantastic, no evidence is given when it is asked for, and although I know several of us (me included) have provided factual information privately, no real response or follow up - which, to me, indicates a lack of sincerity. I've revealed some very personal things in an effort to help, and frankly, wish I hadn't now. I am officially leaving this particular sandbox, I no longer wish to play this game. I encourage the rest of you to join me.
so i know many of you guys say the best way to show dubs is to be all happy and all when you exit.....but not all of us are doin that well at it....even though i have lost all friends from my dub life....i really dont want to lose my son and folks....this would happen if i end this odd and painful arrangement of a marriage to a really wonderful wife who is hardcore jw.
my desire for freedom and normal social life, and the 800 lb gorilla in the room we live with are not doing so well...........i am tired of having to leave the house and go in the garage to talk on the phone with my non-dub friends.....tired of totally separate social lives.......tired of rules in place that prevent us from speaking about certain taboo topics with each other........my mental/emotional state is not well and has not been for four years.
so i spoke with my dad very openly and honestly about how i have had to wear "masks" through life....one for school since third grade to fit in....another for my parents and jw friends........and that now i still lead a double life when not around my wife........told him outright i feel jws meet every single definition of a cult btw.......he already knew i felt that way but had never said it so directly........i asked him if he felt history repeats itself and could fds not be just like the scribes and pharisees that made so many rules for gods people that they had actually corrupted gods message............he said he has wondered that before too.
Oompa...I know I don't comment much on your threads (well, heck, I don't comment that much at all) but I do read you. Hopefully this will come out helpfully and not as a slam b/c your story makes me hurt and worry for you. It just seems to me that there are three issues: 1. alcoholism 2. mental/emotional issues (i.e. depression, etc. you've been fairly open about all of this) and 3. the JWs. I honestly think you need to fix 1 and 2 before you will be able to deal successfully with 3. If you walk away from the little bit of stability left in your life, I think you will spiral downwards, fast. Fix the other issues. Perhaps in fixing them, the JW stuff will become more manageable, you know? There are tons of "divided" households, and even though she drives you nuts, it has always seemed like you really love your wife. Throwing everything away in an attempt to stop the pain isn't always a good choice...the pain doesn't stop and you've lost everything. (Plus, you are in NC, and the property division laws there SUCK hard). ;) xoxox
someone arrested on a plane for preaching the bible.. who would be so stupid so as to quote the bible incessantly to the person sitting next to him?
then refusing to let the passenger get up from their seat until they finished preaching, so as not to acquire blood guilt?
and finally going beserk when he refused to stop, biting another passenger?.
No, I don't think so. Most JWs are trained that the majority of people they preach to won't listen - "I'm not interested" - see Reasoning Book canned response on page xx. The vast majority are NOT that concerned with actual saving of lives AND would quickly run out of scriptures to quote. I seriously doubt it was a witness.
@ blondie - hey, that's BEFORE they realized the sisters couldn't handle the sight of the manly man nips!
here we have iirc more than four separate threads on 607, and of course a remonstration to not be unkind to the apologists.. why?
607 is of course complete nonsense - not even regular witnesses can remember the "logic" behind it and why it is even mentioned from time to time in their stupid "deep spiritual literature".
some time back this board was so badly infected with this junk by people like the "scholar" that it was painful to look over all of it and find an intelligent thread to participate in.
I think 607 is still an issue for those who have been in for 30+ years. The organization used to be ALOT more doctrinally based. I think most newbie JWs now couldn't handle the stuff we had to study. Remember the old Ezekiel book? and the God's Kingdom of 1000 years? Ugh. That stuff was dry and tedious at best but a great deal of it was "prophetic" in nature. So 607 is a HUGE point. I can tell you it is THE teaching that got me out (the other stuff, like the UN, sealed the deal) but it was the verifiably demonstrated fact that 607 was wrong, thus 1914 was wrong and thus they COULD NOT HAVE BEEN CHOSEN in 1919 by their own chronology! that made my brain start to function on its own again.
And the first place I found where I could ask questions and not be scared of something bad happening to me (like being DFd) was here. I was terrified to post in the regular forums so I posted privately for a looooooong time and the first set of my questions was about 607.
So yeah - at this point, it gets tedious and I generally skip over those threads NOW but never underestimate how important they can be to someone. I haven't been out long - but without those discussions? I don't think I would have mentally and emotionally ever been free.
i would imagine cs3 would be similar.
i'm laying out a book for a client and have a question.
just thought on the off-chance....
Sue - sending you a PM now (monday)

Hey Sue!
Thanks for the input. Yes, I kind of did it a little backwards...first I was given a .wps file (sigh) that was one big long file. I created documents and then imported it into the separate indesign docs and created the Book file. THEN I did the master pages (sigh). What I'm working on now is the indexing. The adobe tutorials are fabulous.
I've worked with Quark and Pagemaker extensively in the past (as well as Word) so I knew I wanted a proper page layout program...plus, this is one in a series of books and this will allow me to keep the same styles through the entire series.
The challenge has been learning a new software on a really time delivery timeframe. I have the 30-day trial and will buy the "real" thing using my student discount at the end of the 30 days.
Do you mind if I PM you if I run into questions?
i realize that the latest clarification of the generation teaching has been discussed quite a bit on this thread.. but i think that there are at least two other important points from the annual meeting that have been, for the most part, overlooked:.
1. the weeds of matthew 13 are not the churches of christendom, but apostates.. 2. showing love to our neighbors involves more than just the preaching work.
(thanks for mentioning this rubadub).
How sad that they have to actually give an example to explain what "showing true christian love" means.
this is just an obsevation from me...ok i dont mean to annoy anyone but is it true or just me?.
i feel that ones raised in the truth are so much better of than us who came in from the world.
i say that because they have family who are witnesses too.
pj - off topic. Start a new post if you must.
