Well in my case my dad would pick 2 or 3 questions and prepare us "kids" for our specific question and answer, then at the meeting he'd go to the conductor and tell him which one to pick for which kid If we didn't raise our hand the conductor was instructed by dad to call on us anyway!
If you didn't make your comment you got punished when you got home. So it wasn't cute or funny. It destroyed our self esteem and nothing about the jw religion prepared me for debating, speaking in large groups or did anything to develop my speech or reading skills, character or anything else that would have been usuefull in my adult life.

kind of a strange experience here, maybe someone can make me see what's going on.
my parents live in another state, to visit them would require at least a 22 hour drive, no trains, .
planes are fine but since the airport is in the middle of nowhere tickets are getting quite costly ($$$$$$.
That's how the jw's operate, as long as you are a productive member all is good. When you can't "do" anymore they are no where to be found. I've been trying to get a close family member, actually 2 of them to understand that. They keep telling me "aren't the jw's supposed to help their own? Why aren't they here for our family member?
It's all up to you guys now. Keep us posted on how they are doing!

Edited: I forgot, some will help if you pay them, and I know personally that they cheat on working hours!
has anyone tried it?
if so for what ailment and how effective was it?
Now why didn't my Dr prescribe some of this Marinol while going through Chemo? I shall ask him next follow up visit
I would ask if I were you, it does not cause the "high" feeling so I'm told but I've seen patients gain weight and look much better and feel better because they are able to eat and keep it down.
Let me know what happens and good luck with your treatment!

another thread got me thinking.. are there any people here that work in the medical field and did so as a jw?.
up until july of last year, i worked in a hospital laboratory as a phlebotomist (person who draws blood) and lab tech.
i drew countless tubes of blood from people for "type and crossmatch.
if you decide to receive blood and have the opportunity, donate your own or if you're fortunate enough to have a friend or family member that's your type, get the blood from them
If you are in a car acccident you don't have much time to look for friends or reletives or to store your own blood. Life or death? Save my life!

I worked with a nurse who was a JW. She would always try to get another RN to cover for her or trade patients when she had one that needed blood. She was good for saying, "nj would you take patient 123 that needs blood and I'll take your patient 456", patient 456 usually didn't need anything done for or to him/her as a matter of fact that patient usually was at a point in their recovery that they didn't need any nursing assistance except for handing them their meds at the appropriate time!
I think I traded with her once and put an end to that. Damn Jdubs! always trying to get out of doing something.

She had a great loss of apetite and what she did eat she couldn't keep down.
Did it help her? I had one patient that refused to take it because she didn't want to get addicted But the Morphine or Demerol we gave her for pain she wasn't concerned with

A physician I used to work for prescribed the pill form which is called Marinol, very safe and effective way to restore the appetite in patients undergoing Chemo, HIV/AIDS.

or do they merely pay lip service to the idea?
i have no doubt that some of them sincerely believe.
but when i was a kid, growing up in the '80s, i didn't know of a single witness, myself included, who didn't believe the end was close.
My hubby is one of those Witness innocents that seriously believes it won't be long
jnat - how does he feel about you being destroyed in the big A, does he think you will be saved because of him? I'm just asking because I have a niece in law that is married to a non jw. She is a super jdub and although she thinks the big a is just around the corner , she is very depressed because she'll have to life here on earth without her hubby Her kids are always preaching to him and asking him to please become a jdub. It's really sad to watch.

i was helping a patient where i work that was very frusterated.
she said the only reason we stopped by is because we are out here "ministering", i thought, oh crap..... she goes on with her story when i went to leave she asked me if i had every heard of the watchtower, i politely answered yes.
she then asked if i liked it, and i politely answered no.
Me too, LOLI said yup, it was constantly rammed down my throat from birth to age 18, when I turned 18 I promptly vomited it all back up into my parents laps and now I have a real life, have a nice dayEx-jw-nj: I hope you don't have a copywrite on that quote!!! If you do, sue me, cause I am gonna use it!!!!! LOL
Feel free to use it as necessary, fitting isn't it?
