Reply to safe4kids re Aussie language course
by ozziepost incouldn't reply on original thread, so will try here.. the brits sometimes use a form of rhyming slang.
it's origins are with the cockneys i.e.
east-enders of london.. so 'apples and pears' means stairs.

New Here Also- Thoughts on the current state of JW
by secretjw ini am a baptized witness... i've been around it most of my life.
i've been baptized for a while now.. just as a topic of thought, what do you think is the current state of the society/jehovah's witnesses today?
it seems like we're in the last days.... but then again, the last days have been going on for 60+ years!

I am so sorry about your little girl. The pain of losing her must have been increased vastly by your father's untrue statement.
You said "as I said became bitter because of their inability to respond neither biblically nor logically to serious questions I have laid before them"
Your parents can't respond biblically or logically because of the mind control of the society. The mind control puts up a barrier to anything threatening their belief system. That is why there are so many meetings for a JW to attend. Preparation for the meetings also helps to keep them under control.
I agree with Gopher that your best response would be to live a happy well-adjusted life and show unconditional love, in response to any hate and anger that the believers show you.
Welcome to the board, and I hope that being here will give you peace and a feeling of belonging

What is an apostate?
by esther inthe meaning of 'apostasy' given in my dictionary is "abandonment of religious faith, vows, principles or party".
i used to think that only cults considered leaving their religion to be apostasy, but according to my dictionary, as quoted above, everyone who changes their religion is technically an apostate.
so were those of us who changed from other religions to become jws apostates then?

So were those of us who changed from other religions to become JWs apostates then? If so, I think that we could speculate endlessly on whether leaving the JW religion would make us double apostates, or whether we could now be accused of 'becoming apostate'.

Is the WTBTS racist?
by esther inin australia there are separate congregations for aboriginal witnesses.
the official line is that the nonwitness aboriginals are more responsive to other aboriginals.
that may be so, but that doesn't mean that they should be kept separate for meetings.

In reply to Prisca "If you guys aren't so racist, then why didn't you attend the congregations for the foreign speaking/aboriginal groups?????"
I did attend a couple of the meetings, but we were not allowed to join the Aboriginal congregation. I was told
by an elder that I was only supposed to go to the congregation to which I was allotted, even though I had a
pioneer friend who I wanted to spend time in FS with in that congregation. They did have some white publishers, but the number was limited by whoever was in charge, and the local elders
chose who was allowed in. -

When I first started studying with JWs, it was partly because of the lack of racism. Where I lived, we did have some meetings separate, but we also had some combined. How can different races get to know each other if they don't communicate on a fairly frequent basis. You were right, though, that I should have been more careful how I expressed myself. I DON'T KNOW. Also, I acknowledge that the fact that some individuals in an organization are racist does not make the whole organization racist. Where I first studied, there was a real warmth and friendship that was tangible. If we had not had some meetings combined, I would have missed out on some warm, loving relationships. I did start to feel uneasy when the Aboriginal congregations were started, and felt that a lot of people were missing out on the opportunities for friendship. A

How can the story be a lie? All the points I made are true. I never actually accused the WTBTS of being racist, because as far as I am concerned, the jury is still out. Segregation is a sign of racism. That is why I asked if anyone else has seen signs of racism.

That may be so, but that doesn't mean that they should be kept separate for meetings. This was probably the first warning signal I noticed, but pushed it away in a typical JW fashion, thinking it would be corrected. Has anyone else noticed signs of racism in the WTBTS?

JW's & alternative medicine
by slipnslidemaster inin one of the threads i read today, they were talking about looking into your eyeballs to diagnose cancer and the like.
also selling herbs.. my comment and question is this: it seemed like in my congregation and the surrounding ones, alot of the sisters were into kineseology, reflexology, herbs, vitamins, color therapy, aroma therapy, etc.. alot of touchy feely hippie crap.
while i personally agree that there needs to be more synergy with eastern and western medicines, it would appear reading the boards that alot of witnesses are into this sort of stuff.. is this your experience?

Alternative medicine often works. The medical establishment doesn't know everything. I had a doctor who approved of some natural therapy. There are less side effects from natural therapy, and regular medicine can be dangerous. If the alternative therapy is not harmful, why not use it. Of course, you need to check the safety first
