Are We Too Loving To Be JWs?
by dedpoet inthis is a thought that i've been pondering on for a while now.
more than a few on this forum cite lack of love as one of the .
major reasons that they quit attending jw meetings, and while.

It has been said that JWs will die for their brothers, yet, as we have seen, often neglect to live for their brothers. I used to hate it when I got a letter closed with "agape love", which to me was the same as saying 'principled, impersonal love that we are obligated to have for our brothers'.

I finally caught one at their own game
by loosie inok so we all know how these jw's pass these urban legend emails around passing them off as actually events.. i got one sent to me.
it talks about how this one sister was dying she wanted to be buried with a fork in her hand because when she was at these congo get togethers they would say to keep your fork because dessert is coming.
just remember to 'keep your fork' .

Nobody wants to say the emperor has no clothes. The longer a person is in the religion, the harder it is to get out as it is like a life insurance policy that you will lose out on big time if you chose to cash it in. It may be scarey to take responsibility for the direction of your life when you are used to being spoon-fed every thought for so long too. Eventually it comes down to the reality that the org. is only a bunch of men sitting around a table, like in the Wizard of Oz--"pay no attention to the man behind the curtain"!

Has anyone been in one of the dramas while a JW?
by Nowman init probably was one of my few happy moments of being a jw.
my mom, dad, and i were asked to be in the modern day drama, think it was in 1988-1990 (not sure exactly).
i played a worldly girl named "dolly winters" who was considered a bold and brazon girl who eventually studied to become one of jws because of a good example jw that she went to school with.

How do you dress a "worldly girl"? I was in a drama in the 80's, a "witness girl" and positively hated the guidelines for how we were to dress. I also made this outfit, a scoop-neck dopplar sleve number with an elastic waist skirt. The Genesis song that contains the words "get me outta here" kept rolling through my mind.

How come nobody screamed when Mr. Jefferson called white people "honkeys" years ago? It was funny then, but, as comedians go, there will come a day when you carry a shocking comment too far. Nobody is saying what he said is ok, but man, how many times can you apologize for something. If the person you are apologizing to doesn't accept it, it's on them. Whenever someone told me something I knew wasn't true I would just say "no I'm not" and move on with my life. You have to be pretty weak in your sense of self to say "he took our joy away"...it says they value his viewpoint more than their own. Where does censorship end?

Then there are the 40-year age difference couples we see up here in the North country due to the lack of a diverse gene pool. It usually involves a girl in her 20's with a man in his 50's or 60's who has either lost his wife or never married. There are also obvious homosexuals who don't know what else to do with themselves so marry someone they can get along with the best they can.

Sorry everybody, still a baby with the computer and hit the enter by accident. Just have to work on it here... It is about a JW couple who can't have a relationship with their daughter because they were DFed for, believe it or not, "reviling". They had some personal issue with their daughter's in-laws, talked about it, the in-laws brought it up to a judicial committee, and, what-do-you-know, they're out. They now go door to door telling people about the "mind-control cult" JWs are and dispite the "overwhelming love" they once knew in the beginning, that their daughter won't have anything to do with them, with an added comment from her of how they knew the rules of the game before they started. An elder comments about how the daughter could talk to them whenever she wanted, say, for instance, if one of her parents were ill. This, to me makes the Witnesses look terrible. I will try later to get the article up somehow.
