I've always heard it's from midaevil (sp) times when people used to try to poison others all the time. If you clinked your glasses or mugs together, that would make the liquid slosh around into everyones glass and mix it up. The theory being that if you had just poisoned one of the mugs, the poison just sloshed into your mug.
I've never heard of it as pagan to ward off evil.

a comment by rubadub in the thread about learning new things at the meetings made me remember something, and gave me a chuckle.. i would always see how fast i could look up the scriptures during the talks, and race to beat most everyone else.
of course everyone else didn't realize i was racing them, but i'd always feel a smug (and perhaps a bit self-righteous) satisfaction at having the scripture looked up and ready to follow along while from the sights and sounds around me most everyone else was still looking it up.
being able to look up jehovah's word with such speed would surely earn me spiritual brownie points.
The secret is that JWs only use a small portion of scriptures in their material. After 30 or more years of hearing them over and over, I knew what they said.
That would be an interesting research subject. How many actual scriptures do the dubs use? Is it the same 90 or so all the time?

i have no doubt that a jw child is, at least, confused with life.
in my own case my wife brings up my 2 children (aged 5 & 2) as jw`s.

Most definatley damaging. It took me 10 years to really understand about their horrible beliefs and the anger about wasted childehood and adult life without a career. (I was sure I'd see Armageddon in '75). Now I'm 47 and have grandchildren. I am just thankful I did not raise my own children in that mess. I am only now learning how to relate to 'worldly' people. I've spent much of my life wondering what 'normal' behavior is since the society dictated every action, and associate, I never learned to socialize properly.
it's a long shot to prove such a thing... i'm curious how this will pan out.. .

True, DNA cannot prove marital status, but the position of the two ossuaries suggests the two individuals were married to each other.
I wonder about Judah's (the son) ossuary. Why was it in the tomb? He must have died at a young age, without descendants.

Wow I'm really sorry to see so many knee jerk reactions in here.
All the evidence they portrayed is valid. DNA, mathematical, timeline... all of it.
The real show stopper will be a few years from now when they say they typed the DNA found in Jesus' box to that of the DNA found in Joseph's box. C'mon, you know what the results are...
i'm an evolutionist.
one cannot argue that evolution isn't a fact.
however, i'd be interested in the better informed amongst us here explaining in simple terms how the feeling of love evolved.
animals, mammals, mostly need each other for survival. they huddled together and developed "emotions" as part of that instinct for survival. Humans, with our great brains, attach more meaning to emotions than probably belong there. Combine that with pop culture and viola! Crazy making!
