one can only speculate.

dt 21:10-13 with the lord's approval, the israelites are allowed to take "beautiful women" from the enemy camp to be their captive wives.

I'm very careful not to be dogmatic about the matter. I hope I made it pretty clear that I feel unsure about God's existence and true identity. I am sure of one thing. If I make good decisions on a reasonably consistent basis I enjoy a reasonable degree of success. If I do the opposite, I get the opposite result. In other words, I've got to carry on. And I'm doing just that. Jehovah, if He exists and cares and that is His name in the English tongue, knows better than anyone what I've seen in my short life and why I feel the way I do about things. I would humbly welcome any illumination He would throw my way. I just lost any and all confidence that such illumination could come from the arrogant and out-of-touch Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses. I'm not angry and bitter, I'm hurt and disappointed.

They can apologize to their God all day long. If He's even half of who they claim He is, He'll either still be laughing at their absurdity or furious with them for perpetrating a fraud for all these years. At one time I would have welcomed an apology. I think now we're way past that.

Yes, it is a lie. Once you deprogram yourself, which you're in the process of doing, you'll find a mountain of lies. You may not always like what you find. But I say that reality is the best place to live. It's not always pretty, but then again, neither are we.

How can anyone who has done their homework seriously trust their salvation to them, if they can't even be trusted to tell the truth?

Some people believe what they want to believe. Others believe what they do because of isolation from accurate information.

Jehovah's Witnesses encourage non-Witnesses to be open-minded and ask critical questions of their current belief system.

Jehovah's Witnesses discourage independent thinking, open-mindeness, and critical questions with regards to their own

current belief system.

Do you see the double standard that really makes it difficult for a Witness to, as you say, do their homework seriously.

Yes it contains lies. However, since most of it's claims have to do with invisible events involving invisible participants, they are difficult to disprove. The passing of time is their worst enemy. The biggest and most important lie is to claim arrogantly that the Creator of the Universe somehow provides them with special insight. If there is a God in heaven He is either laughing at them or fuming mad at them.

often i'm following someone into a building and entering the same door, and most of the times, the person in front won't even try to keep the door open so that it wont close in my face.

knowing that someone is right behind me, i'll even wait a second or two and hold the door open for that person.

i guess it has to do with being well educated.

Some men, older especially, still expect this--in which case, the polite thing for a FEMALE to do would be to give him time to reach and open the door first.

That's exactly the right thing to do. I'm not sure that doing otherwise would be impolite, but by doing as you've described your giving the gentlman the opportunity to feel chivalrous, thus setting up a potentially pleasant moment for all participants. Sometimes, such a brief moment of shared kindness is enough to turn the mood of the whole day around.

Thank you for the topic JH,

Politeness is of supreme importance to me. As abandoned said, it's all about consideration. It's a fine way to show that you respect the dignity of total strangers because they are your human brothers and sisters. Some are oblivious to polite gestures, but most respond in kind. I firmly believe that good manners, when displayed consciously and heartfeltly(is that a word?) and not simply to satisfy protocol, are contagious. Tipping is also included in this.
