JWs took off from work in 1975?
by skeeter1 ina friend of mine is an electrician supervisor.
back in 1975, one of his employees was a jw.
the jw was so convinced that 1975 would bring the end of the world, that the jw took off from work (like, the first week in january) and sat on the top of a north carolina mountain waiting for armegheddon.

Jamaican Branch Office Closing
by jw07 ini'm from jamaica, montego bay to be exact.
if there are other jamaicans here, feel free to let me know.. with that said, it was announced at our last meeting (a letter was read) that the branch office (bethel) in kingston would be closing, and affairs would soon be directed from us hq.
now the branch office here is a large compound built on acres of prime real estate.

by Faithful Witness inmy jw (converts of about 5 years) came over on thursday and ate a turkey dinner with us.
we didn't call it thanksgiving, but that was obviously what it was.
they were proud to give me my own copy of the new revised and improved nwt bible.

Since your dad is new to "The Truth", perhaps next time if he mentions the new Bible App ask him if he's ever spoken to some of the old timers in the congregation, especially and elder, who would remember about fifteen or so years ago when the internet first started catching on that the brothers were admonished to stay away from the internet. Yet, now THe Society goes by JW.ORG, ask him does he think that's new light directly from Jah or just what happened?

the pioneer couple i used to study with always arranged (or re-arranged) the study to coincide with lunch.
they never once thought to bring a pack of cookies or something.

So they always made sure the study was around lunch time, well how convenient is that!
Since a study is usually a weekly occurence I hope you didn't serve them lunch every time they were there.
They know how to use the folks, getting them to drop them off at their return visits and studies and not offering up a dime for the gas, they know EXACTLY what they're doing.

New Handbill Campaign

they were just at my door and offered it to me with one of their heartless and scripted presentations.
the religion has just become so dumbed down.

Like whathappened said, they're not allowed to solicit in my building either so I guess we'll all be destroyed at the Big A, all except the 3 or 4 families of Dubs who live here. I guess Jah will make sure they're out in service or at the meeting when the Big A finally arrives.

I think the speck of dirt comment was a bit much, as far as the stand in corner bit, I don't know your kids exact age, but if they're teenagers, that's a bit demeaning and if a teen does stand in a corner they're probably saying you've totally lost it and/or cursing you out while they're standing there.
I can understand how parents get tired of kids being accustomed to getting everything and not be appreciative. But none of us here on the board know how long you've put up with that kind behavior and yes, it is your house and they're you're kids so you do have the right to discipline them as you see fit.

So what types of people actually flourish under the JW regime?

creative types: to do well at a creative industry one must dedicate a lot of time to developing one's talent, and as a jw one simply doesn't have time.
since writing a story or painting a picture doesn't contribute in any way to prestudy, meetings or fs results it's considered useless anyway.

Folks with just a smidgen of mental illness going on and of course there are quite a few certified mental patients as well. The reason being is they need some type of structure in their life. I remember one certified nut in my KH who use to wander off from the meetings, when she sometimes decided to get help I remember her sis in law said she was told to keep a list and write down what she planned to do during the day or what she wanted to accomplish that day, when you join the Borg, the oldl guys in Brooklyn do all the thinking for you .
