gcs - The thing that gets me about Serena is, or I should say other folks out there in the public eye who claims to be JWs is how they get away with their behavior, have you seen those nude pics of her in Sports Illustrated and a few other magazines, how many sisters do you know that would get away with that one and still claim to be a JW and don't get get me started about Prince, if some brothers in the cong formed a little jazz combo or something and got a few gigs, if they wore the outfits or wrote songs with the lyrics of Prince songs (even after he was baptized) how long would that last ?

My Walmart encounter with the dubs today
by poppers inyup, there were 3 of them camped out in front of the store with their display of materials - first time i've seen them there.
he said he converted 5 years ago from the presbyterians, and that he had learned more in 1 year with the jws than all his time with the presbyterians (the usual stuff, jesus died on a stake, paradise earth, etc).
he claimed he didn't know about the invisible return of jesus, he was dismissive of the impact of disfellowshipping and that people can leave with little consequence, he claimed that the romans didn't use a cross until 200 years after jesus died on the stake.

"that he had learned more in 1 year with the JWs than all his time with the Presbyterians"
As soon as I read that, I had a feeling of how the rest of your post was going to read and you didn't dissapoint.
Never heard of the Big A after five years in the Cult? He might as well go back to the Presbyterian Church.

Is it a tradition in your congregation for the visiting speaker to give the final prayer on Sunday?
by hoser inevery congregation i have attended this is the case.
i was wondering if this is just a local thing or if it is an unwritten rule worldwide?.

I remember several occasions when the Bro called on the speaker to give the prayer, but apparently the speaker(s) left before the end of the meeting!

What can I do??
by Nenmco infirst, i am married, but the marriage ended 11 years ago.
no sex, no emotion, just roommates paying the bills.
i met a wonderful jw gal about a year ago and we have been friends.

You don't sound any different from any other man from any other religion, the marriage is over, just playing roommates but attracted to someone else.
But, first of all, is the feeling mutual, I asked since you said you want to kiss her, but then you could just be dreaming about her and having that happen

Given your perspective, would you rank AA as a cult after reading this?
by NeverKnew ina very dear friend's husband is going to aa and has been successfully clean for a year now.

Perhaps he was a sponsor, have no idea, all I know is he used to to do "something" their maybe he's the one who had the key to the door, everytime I used to pass by their always saw the car, and like I said since I'm not familiar with the meetings are terminology I guess he was sponsor. According to this Sis since he was at the level to help others (or whatever it's called in AA) he used to "help out" (or whatever it's called) the folks at the meeting place.
I don't know your age Jeff, but something I found interesting that she shared was when AA used to hold dinners back in the 70's and 80's ("or whatever it's called in AA) at certain venues the program listed a GarryM as the MC for the various events, do you remember Gary Moore from "I've Got a Secret"? That's who the MC was, he was involved with AA himself.

Jeff T - Since I'm not f amiliar with the meetings at all I don't know the correct terminology, but the sisters husband is a counselor or whatever they call it, there was an AA meeting place in my nabe where her husband used to "lead" or "counsel" the folks at their meetings.

A sister in the Hall (whom my mother studied with) husband was with AA for decades, he was even a counselor, or whatever you call it that leads the meetings, I remember her saying that every time they went away on vacation the first thing her husband did was look up the local chapter of AA. I always thought that he did that to fight the temptation to have a drink while on vacation. But what's kinda funny about it being cult like is, first thing he did on vacay was look up the nearest AA and the sister looked up the nearest KH, which is what many Dubs do when they're away, so it is kind of cult like.

Good for you Lisa, I refuse to take statins too, first time I found out my cholesterol was high two years ago, Dr prescribed it, had it filled, looked it up on the web and said no F*** ing way am I gonna take this. I eat oatmeal, take Organic Apple Cider Vinegar and Artichoke Leaf Extract and a few other things to keep it down, sometimes when i get lax it does go up, but I will never take a statin. But the thing you also have to remember is, since Dr.s found out they could make money pushing all these statins, what the normal reading was thirty or so years ago is about 75 plus points lower than what it's considered now. My current reading is high for the "modern readings" but I'm not that concerned because thirty years ago, before all these new drugs my reading would've been fine.
