At a bookstudy in the early 80s...an elderly brother was doing the reading (we were using the green bible at the time) ...all of a sudden a cockroach came out of nowhere and flew right into his face and onto the book...SHIT!!! he shouted as he tried to slap it off his face... he stood up and threw his book down! (even his glasses flew off his face) Everyone, and I mean everyone was rolling on the floor laughing, my stomach was hurting with laughter. Some brothers had to go outside to contain their laughing. After what seemed an eternity the book study was restarted , the original reader of course was relieved of his duties but no one could continue reading ..anyone who tried to start would burst out in laughter after reading the first sentence. The bookstudy was cut short, because it had gone way over the alloted time.

The chronicles of Narnia and Harry Potter
by uuus2b1 inlast year, i bought a few movies for my 16 year old niece when i went on vacation, among them was the movie "the chronicles of narnia (the lion, the witch and the wardrobe).
a few days later my brother called and said that he would like if i came by to pick up the movie as they would not allow their daughter to watch that movie.
(my brother is an elder) when i went to his house the movie was left virtually the same place that i had left it.

I remember when the little mermaid came out, we had a JW get-together and watched it as a bookstudy group. Thinking back..there was a witch in there too! Ursula..singing "poor unfortunate souls" What's wrong with that witch!

(My brother is an elder) When I went to his house the movie was left virtually the same place that I had left it. No one touched it! It was as if they were all scared that it might bring evil spirits into their house! I felt very bad to say the least, but I took it back and gave it to a longtime friend of mine. Now I understand the word "witch" might have set off some alarms in their minds but I am sure that none of them had actually seen the movie to make a judgement on whether to allow a 16 year old to watch it. Maybe its just me drifting away from from the 'faith' but I found it to be a very clean and entertaining movie. I feel the same way about the much maligned "Harry Potter" series by the wittnesses also..just fantasy and entertainment. Similar experiences/feelings anyone?

The image in Daniels dream...what does it mean now?
by uuus2b1 ini am new here, so i know i missed this being discussed in earlier threads......anyway i remember how prominently the image in daniels dream was being portrayed in public talks and books...especially when russia was a world power.
since the breakup of that country, what is the new explanation for the 'gog of magag'.
also the feet of the image that was of part clay and stone or something like that, symbolized unrest by democratically ruled nations.

Has there been 'new light' in the explanation of that too?...anyone?

Birthday pay for JWs
by uuus2b1 inwhere i work... an employee's birthday is a paid holiday.
as a witness and an elder, i always had a tough time explaining why jws didn't celebrate birthdays but could accept the day off and be paid for it .
"a matter of conscience" was usually the explanation.

Re:"NOT take that free turkey at Thanksgiving? HA!"
Also...Where I work...Most JWs accepted the yearly free Thanksgiving Turkey and Christmas ham..they just make sure to cook them on days other than what they were meant for. ;-)
