I think they keep up with it. And as far as them forbidding the rank and file members to get on the internet and research, they simply don't trust the strength and faith of their own people. They know they have lied, falsified, hidden, flip-flopped ...you name the verb...and they would be so-o-o busted they would loose half of them overnight. (Just mho)
The sad thing is, evidently the r&f don't trust themselves either. I think some of them know deep down inside it's all a bunch of baloney, but it would turn their little world upside down and most people just couldn't handle the truth.
I don't trust the WTS facts and figures when it comes to numbers, so there's probably no way to know for sure just how many have left because of the information highway. They would never report anything too negative.
(Oh, btw, WELCOME...thanks for your post.)

I always had to chuckle at this
by TooBad TooSad inat circuit and especially district assemblies so many witnesses take.
notes of what was being said at such a feverish pace that i would ask.
myself: "what are they hearing that i am not hearing that is so important.

It makes you look oh, so theocratic!... "Everyone, look at me, I'm totally absorbed in this fascinating earth-shaking talk and when I get home I'm going to review the scriptures
that were skimmed over and used out of contextand uplifting points that were brought out!" -

Hello to you, too L. Wells....
I have to say, like you, I was raised a JW and had a good childhood compared to what I've seen and heard from others. I faded many years ago, was never d'f nor did I d'a, but I still have family members in the org and it's currently creating problems.
It's a conundrum, indeed. Balancing and weighing the pros and cons, trying to decide just how to "get out" without destroying everything, trying to be true to yourself, etc. This forum will help you... lots of smart, compassionate, and helpful folks on JWD.

"Disfellowshipping" - a word being phased out? (Anybody got a WBTS CD?)
by sass_my_frass inyou know how jws don't 'shun', or at least pretend they don't, because they don't use the word 'shun'?
do you think that soon they won't 'disfellowship', just because the announcement is no longer "sass has been disfellowshipped", it's now "sass is no longer a jw".
technically, if i wasn't disfellowshipped, i can't say that i was disfellowshipped and that my family shun me.... i'm just no longer a jw, as if it was a choice i made.

Allow me to introduce myself
by RollerDave ini was raised among the witnesses and left in my early 30's due to a mixture of doctrinal disputes and social isolation.
my mother and both of my sisters remain within the organization.
i also have two brothers, one df'd, one who never quite caught the watchtower bug.. my road within the organization was a rocky one that eventually lead to a place where i found myself socially isolated within the congregation as a person simply unfit for fellowship with proper, upright, theocratic people who must cut off all 'worldy' association, suffer the ensueing isolation, and eat humble pie until such a time as they determined i was 'spiritual minded' enough for them to associate with.. baptism was held up as my expected goal, but despite trying, i was never quite good enough for them.

equated my depression with mental retardation by saying "as a retarded person, you can't BE baptized, you are under your mother's grace."
It's sad that one heartless ignoramous can say something so hurtful (albeit untrue) that it effects the way you think for many years, sometimes for a lifetime.
Welcome, friend.......

I wonder if my son is having 2nd thoughts about getting baptized?
by lavendar inseveral months ago, our son informed us that he has been studying with the jw's (his wife being one), and that he will eventually be joining the b. anyway, he just told us a few days ago that he is accepting another job.
this new job will be 8:00 to 5:00 monday thru friday.
after we hung up, i got to thinking.....hmmm, so when is he going to have time to go door-knocking??

Maybe doing the opposite will win him over?
Good advice, Highlander.
You don't want to slam the door shut by closing him out and eliminating any chance!

I Need A Comeback Statement
by journey-on inwhen i suggested to my jw sister that the wts has caused so much pain and division in our family, she told me it was because my brothers and i had made the choice to leave.
we were responsible for the division---not the society.
we are the ones that chose to leave the love and protective shelter of jehovah's organization and we are the ones that have the choice to return to the fold.. i need an intelligent comeback, preferably one that will plant a seed, not one too sarcastic.

Thank you all for your suggestions. They were all helpful and gave me ideas. Hope I get another chance to use them.
Garybuss: This is a little too direct for me. I have that "stick it to ya" attitude when it comes to the WTS, but not my sis.
My comeback for a crack like that would be: Goodbye!
Outlaw: I know it is, but I've never had a snappy comeback to it. It always leaves me silent.
.."That is a worn-out,brain-dead WBT$ response from a JW".....
Zico: I liked what you had to say. This might work.
it was your choice to leave the Org it was your family who reacted to that and are choosing not to associate with you, you chose to leave a religion, NOT your family.
Brother Apostate: This sounds like something I really would say. Thanks.
"Wish you well on your journey to Enlightenment, see you when you get there."
