I may be a hoot to you, Beks, but you are a riot! I put plenty of nickles in, dear, believe me. Sorry, beks. Your link is nothing more than a history of abortion and how the practice was done in the past. I stand by what I said regarding the social climate of the times and its influence on the acceptance needed by society to put it into law.

Social values absolutely DO drive this issue. What IS a society if it is not its mores, taboos, and social values. Our country is still very much divided regarding this issue. The last statistic I remember seeing is that we, as an overall society, are still mostly pro-life.
We can use some Islamic countries to make this point. In some countries, 75-84% of their populace think stoning adulterers is acceptable! Does that make it right? No. But under Sharia Law, it is legal and acceptable. Their society...their social values...find stoning an adulteress perfectly acceptable.

I think EoM is looking for our input and whether our pov is religiously based or not. As another poster mentioned, abortion is everybody's business (in a general sense). Ultimately, though, the decision to do or not do it is up to the pregnant woman, but I'm sure opinions, personal experiences, and loving counsel without judgement would be welcomed by any woman facing this "problem".

My mother shunned my df'd brothers about two minutes....LOL! She said the same thing your mom did. She always said that it was unnatural to treat your own flesh and blood like that and she took the issue to Jehovah in prayer. She confidently believed He did not expect that from a mother that had conceived it, grew it in her womb, loved it, and gave birth to a child. She also liked that scripture that says "in the last days there would be a lack of natural affection." And is there ANYTHING more unnatural than shunning your child?!

They aren't involved in their community, the local school board, political parties, charitable endeavors, or even pop culture. How do many of you feel bout abortion? Please also state if you believe in God or not.I do believe in the Divine creator, but not the skydaddy kind of God that takes names and kicks butt.
I despise abortion, but it's not religiously based. I think it became law only because of the climate of the times...."if it feels good, do it". The women's movement was growing stronger and stronger, and women wanted to feel empowered to reach for the sky unencumbered by unplanned children. They needed justification to terminate an unwanted pregnancy child.
Our country was in an extreme transition period, some of it necessary and good, but some of the resulting consequences were not so good. I know very well all the "social" arguments for abortion. I know very well the arguments that the life begun is nothing but a bunch of cells. None of them, imo, justify it.
But, in the end, she has to live with her decision. Tell her to read as much as she can the firsthand experiences from women who talked themselves into an abortion and lived to deeply regret it. Some women are able to justify it with a clear conscious and never bat an eye. She may be one of those. Choices have consequences. She has another choice to make, but in the end, it is hers to make.

I'm sorry for your deteriorating health. Dying begins the moment we contact the cause of our death, and in the case of a prolonged terminal illness, we see the process clearly and are able to consciously witness the circle of life closing in on its center. I firmly believe to the point of almost knowing with certainty that one can transform the dying process into a vehicle of self-realization.
