could someone please post the verbatim 'purpose' of the awake mag (inside front cover) and also the one that was in there for years before the 1995 generation change article.. i know there are two differenet 'purposes' just like the baptism questions were changed.. i'd really appreciate it.. lisa

When the Nov 1, 95 Awake rag came out (which would've been Oct 95, I guess), there were a few comments about it in my then congregation, but then it just faded away. But comparing it word for word with the previous blurb gave me that distinctly uncomfortable feeling of having my convictions shaken.
If something "most important" could be wrong, what else could be wrong as well?
After that, I was never able to just accept the WT's glossy and improbable explanations on other areas, such as science and history, without that growing twinge of doubt. Eventually, I had to find out the reality for myself, and of course when you decide that, it's like taking the nearest exit from Brooklyn!

the meetings were held in michigan (bibleexaminer), long island (nytelecom), san diego (elder families only), and here in toronto.. the stadium we used is the same we normally use for district conventions.
unlike the dc tho, which is spread over 2 weekends at the stadium, it was packed absolutely full.
it was very hard to find seats anywhere, just a few singles here and there and lots standing in the halls.

Most importantly! The most important purpose of the Awake magazine was WRONG! How many times had they quoted the generation doctrine and bible verses they based it on? How many times must they have studied and discussed this? And they got it WRONG! The most important reason we had been reading the Awake magazine was WRONG! (Can I say this many more times?)

just wondering.. i find myself having little mini panic attacks about all this.
now that i have a little one to be responsible for, i am a little nervous.. i am strongly fighting the urge to have my car loaded up with a weeks worth of supplies for us (ie food, gear, clothes, diapers, water) so if something happens big here - i can head out to canada.. warning (haha) be ready my canadian friends - my daughter and i may be joining you.. anyone else feeling these "survivalist" feelings?????.
