my 81 year old mother has alzeimer's.
visiting with her yesterday, she said she would rather go ahead and die ,because 'i have nothing to look forward to.
' this is a woman who's earnest prayer as she found herself getting old in this system of things, was to live to see 'armegedon'.
Thanks for this post DF. I hope your mom can find peace. This realy strikes a cord with me because my mom has been a JW since 1965 when she was young and beautiful. She will be 76 this year. She was told that she would never get old and die "in this system of things" and has been chasing the carrot ever since. It has been so long since I've seen her that I do not even know if I would recognize her. It truely is sad.

she was almost exactly the same age as me - we were born just days apart.
she had battled cancer for almost a decade.

on one side we have the squeaky clean supermarkets with their dating system, while on the other side is a combination of media scare stories about listeria, salmonella etc.
and voracious food standards authorities.

I live by this rule: when in doubt, throw it out. I have had food poisoning before and it ain't pretty.
