relationships and relatives
by butalbee infor the last 7 months i have been involved in a "friendship" with a jw.
he really was my best friend, who i felt i could confide in and trust with my life.
i have to admit that i have never felt as close to another person before in my life, it was as though we were on the same level--he would finish my sentences, know what i was thinking, and feeling.

What kind of place do you work at that his brother can come in and harrass you like that???
If you really think the world of this guy, show him some respect and tell him the complete truth. Maybe things will work out for you two, but maybe not. However, you are not being any more honest with him than his bastard brother is. How can he make a honest decision if he is being lied to by his brother and kept in the dark by you?
Hold your chin high and tell the truth. If you do not tell him the complete truth and he does end up with you, you will always have this hanging over your head.

no kids policy
by Daisymay inhas anyone else heard of the org.
convincing couples not to have children since this world is so "evil" and armagedon was coming so soon and why not wait until after it is over?.
many new couples were told this and those families that kept conceiving were talked about behind their backs.... daisy

Funny thing....the Shakers have practically died out because they don't have kids...they just would adopt them.
I remeber talking to one brother while we were in field service one day about this issue. He and his wife had decided against having children before they got married, but about a year into their marriage she told him she had changed her mind. When he asked her, but what about we had decided before we got married? She told him that it would be bad enough that if one of them died they would not be married in the new system. Having a child together would be something that would create an eternal bond, even if one or both of them did not survive armageddon. He couldn't argue with that, and so they had a kid. I thought that was a pretty beautiful sentiment.
Then I asked him, but why did you have two? He said, "Well, it's not really fair to have just one. The kid needs a sibling!"

Bethel rules... fables or truth...
by MrMoe incan you all enlighten me, i have heard certain "bethel rules" and wanted to find out if they are fact or fiction.
1. only one item on any surface at any time (a phone or lamp etc.. as long as it is just 1 item.).
2. allowance of $80 a month for toiletries etc... (has that allowance gone up).

Speaking of Bethel....
Does anyone else here remember the Watchtower study article several years ago that talked about physical cleanliness, and used Bethel as an example that we should all follow? I remember sitting, thinking, yeah, it sure would be easy to keep my apartment clean if someone else was doing all my and my son's laundry, and fixing the food too. -

I know this guy that believes all the strick rules they say Bethel has, even the ones that everyone else knows are not true. Raising his son, he told him he was supposed to have his room immaculate like they do at Bethel...and had all these other expectations that were too strict for the poor kid. Of course he did not let his son have worldy friends, or an extrac activity.
His son is now in his early twenties and serving time for dealing drugs. Talk about pushing your kid to the other end of the spectrum.

Intro's quote-o-rama
by Introspection ini guess i've been inspired by stephen's quote threads, so i'm going to start one myself.. not one particular author here, just whatever i can find:.
q: why do you think that people are so protective of their egos?
why is it so hard to let go of one's ego?.

"'Tis better to be a witty fool, than a foolish wit."
Some clown in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night (Or was it Midsummer Night's Dream???)
"Just stop asking questions and do it! I cannot see beyond what I just told you to do!"
Me, talking to my 10 year old son after telling him to empty the dishwasher for the 4th time in ten minutes.
"I've got a straw! Want a demonstration???"
The Tick to some guy in a coffee shop that was questing whether he was a real tick, because ticks suck blood. (A great comic book and cartoon!)
"I brought you into this world, and I can take you out!"
Every parent, to every child, at least once.

why do jws fear getting 'priveleges' revoked?
by Bgurltryal infrom what i understand these privilages aren't much of a privilage!.
i'd be wearing a fake beard just to get them revoked.

As a teenager, if others your age were publically reproved, or had privillages revoked, than the parents usually discouraged their kids from hanging out with them, and that can be very devastating when the teen JW is not allowed to make friends outside the hall.
Also, when you have been in for so long that all your friends are JWs, it is awfully lonely when they think you are bad associations, even if you have not been Dfd.

My father served in Korea in the Navy. He died ten years ago, and I still have no idea what he did exactly. The only thing he would ever mention was eating lots of spam, and learning to work on engines.

My ankles and feet are swollen...but the left is bigger than the right. I am thinking of joining the fair when it comes to town as a freak act and cashing in on it.
Sometimes I think I am 15 months pregnant...I swear to god! I feel your pain LDH...especially if it involves charlie horses. I am due in October, but have only gained 3.5 pounds because I was so severly sick in the first and part if the second trimester. maybe I will look at this as a good thing when I try to lose weight after the fetus is jettisoned from my body.
When a woman that has not been pregnant, or a guy asks me what it is like, the first thing I ask them is,"Have you seen the movie Alien?"
This is my third kid...and by far my bitchiest pregnancy. Even my ten year old son politely told me that I am much more of a witch this time than when I was pregnant with his little sister. (Of course, knowing me well, he started the sentence off with "I don't to be mean but...")
The only thing that gets me through many days is knowing that it will end soon and my husband and I will have yet another tax deduction.
