I saw Macy Gray and Santana last year in concert. Great shows!

Favourite Live Performer:
by Englishman ini've seen loads of live acts, back when i was a "young person asking" i watched the crystals, heinz, johnny kid and the pirates, brenda lee, joe brown and others all on one show.
so very innocent!.
come my eventual departure from dubdom, i resolved to see all these bad people playing their music live.

Good people in the WTS
by Introspection ini sometimes think there may be people who will be largely unaffected by the organization crashing down, by virtue of them actually being good hearted people.
naturally the psychological shock will be there if they didn't see it coming at all, but i really think for some people the religion doesn't touch the core of who they are.
(actually, i think that's the case for everyone, but since this is a free country you're free to believe otherwise ;) ) so, do you know anyone like that?

If you mean individual JWs, I know many, many that are good hearted, and very pleasant to be around. It is just if you get into the gray areas or cross a JW line they have to follow their on consciences and pull back.
The whole UN thing will go unnoticed by millions of JWs. The WTBS will brush it under the rug as just another attempt by apostates and Satan to persecute them. I believe this because if I were still in the org. I would hang on every word the WTBS puts out justifying it self. And of course, the majority will not dare to read anything unbiased or contrary to the WTBS view.
For those that are certainly satisfied with being JWS (ie., my mother) I don't really bring stuff up. She has been in over 25 years, and has sacrificed so much for her faith, that I really believe it would crush her spirit and kill her if she came to the realization that I do. That could be another reason so many JWs cannot bear to part. It would kill them emotionally.

The Most Charitable Work -- 50 yrs ago in the W.
by Thirdson inlooking back 50 years ago .
50 years ago the watchtower made these comments regarding charity.
it is quite interesting to read in the aftermath of the september 11 tragedy.. .

I have to admit that I have seen charitable acts by individual witnesses and witness families over the years. There were a few occaisions growing up that my family were helped out with food when my father was ill and could not work. It was much appreciated!
However, it has always saddened me that there was not more of an organized effort to make sure that there are things on hand to help out those in need, on both a small private scale, and larger scale. The WTBS is always quick to point out how they send trucks full of stuff in natural disasters, etc.., but nothing is really ever done by witnesses as a group on the local level.
There are hundreds of people in our local area that volunteer in soup kitchens and other charities. I doubt very much any of them do it for the publicity. It is too bad the JW organization never encouraged people to do nonreligious charity work at a local level. It would really help the JW reputation in this area...and teach JWs how to make a difference in life.

Laura,
That would come in handy. Actually, I was supposed to be induced today, but they have no free beds at the hospital, so I have a day or so extra on my hands. I wonder what I should start plotting?

by Englishman inme: "i see that you have been getting some adverse press about the un.".

Kind of reminds you of the Twilight Zone episode that had William Shatner (and in a later version John Lithgow) seeing a gremlin on the plane's wing, and no one else seeing it.
OOOOOO.....spooky!

Venting.....
by Bridgette inwell, i came in this morning, prepared to write a glib little post regarding my astrological findings.
but i find my heart too heavy to do so today.
perhaps its just the timespatriotic fervor sweeps over me.

I agree it is a shame. Why have so many religions if they are all going to be the same?
At least with the Witnesses and Mormons, etc., they have more of a distinct identity...even if the general population may look down on them.

Reasons for Leaving JWs/Fatal Flaw
by patio34 ini ran across this in "river out of eden" by richard dawkins (pgs 131-132) yesterday and it accurately sums up why i left jws 9 months ago and, essentially, belief in a creator:.
re dna survivial: 'when the utility function-that which is being maximized--is dna survival, this is not a recipe for happiness.
so long as dna is passed on, it does not matter who or what gets hurt in the process.

I was told that animals and man became eat meaters only after the flood because all the vegetation had not recovered. Any one else remember that teaching?
