I was thinking today about getting a haircut...I would go his way if he was in Dallas, TX.
Sorry to hear about his apartment...that is rough. I am glad he is unharmed though.
details are sketchy yet, but my brother tim, whom many of you portlanders have now met, had a fire in his apartment this morning.
the damage isn't total, but its devastating.
he did not have rental insurance, and the fire marshall says the cause is an extension cord he had daisy-chained into a surge protector.

oh my goth!!!

what's really funny is that... it's almost true!
my sister introduced me to Hot Topic...very cool store. She is 18 and living with us. She listens to a lot of music I have to constantly tell her to turn down. My god, do I feel old...I am only 34!!!
She is a HUGE Marilyn Manson fan. I like some of his stuff, but cannot listen to a whole cd of it in one sitting. She likes some more mainstream rock too though. I took her to see Reggie, Alkaline Trio & My Chemical romance in September...truly not goth stuff, hahah,. Now I do like Rob Zombie...
Now my daughter, who is 6, we refer to her as Gothically Blonde. She loves morbid subjects, and likes black nail polish. She has her pink and frilly barbie side too.
I love Susie an the banshees...congrete blonde too...but never really thought of them as goth. I was the kid that was half punk/half hippie in high school.
Goth seems to definately have a dark side. However, I think if you know what your kids are into, and can talk to them about it, you will have a good idea as to whether to really worry about it or not. I did a lot more dangerous things with my hippie friends than I ever did with my punk/goth friends hahah.
just curious.
i was 17 when i was last spanked.
it was the day of my high school graduation.
I didn't get a lot of spankings as a kid. When my mom gave me one, though, believe me...I deserved it. My brother got a lot more, and trust me...he deserved more than he got hahah.
I was probably 8 the last time I got a spanking. My dad wasn't a JW. He smacked me once or twice when I was older, but he was never what I would consider physically abusive to me. He did hit my brother and one of my sisters a few times. But, I hate to say it, those two egged him on. It doesn't excuse how far he went, but they knew what buttons to push, and did so on purpose. They were older enough to know better.
I very rarely spank my kids, although I will give my son a playful swat now and then, kidding around. I think spanking is appropriate for some things, and some kids...just not some of the severe nasty spankings I witnessed at the hall. I spanked my son ( he is the olderst and the only one I ever had at the KH) more when he was little because I was guilted into it by knowbetter elderettes at the KH.
No 2 year old should have to be spanked because they cannot sit still through the ministry school.
this little girl is auctioning off her imaginary friend so she can go to france!

Hmmm...see this is something I have thought about doing with my kids heehee.
Good for her...that is clever thinking..I hope she raises a little money for her trip. hahah
sometimes i feel like i have reached the "end of the internet".
it seems like i always go to the same sites looking for something amusing only to be sorely dissapointed.. .
gimme something new!
Oh...that's.....lovely. I especially enjoyed the "free bleeding" section where it encourages women with their periods to go "productless". NOW I have reached the end of the internet, because now I've heard everything. I'll bet both of your eyebrows are raised now, Eyebrow.
Rebel8...I was quite astounded at what I found. Now, I am definately no expert on the nether regions, but I was very surprised what I found there. It is quite an "educational" site hahah. Not for the weary though...I think I have visited the site maybe 2x and I cannot get out of my mind what I read there. My thoughts were both "huh, interesting" and "EEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWW!!!" all at the same time. Both eyebrows got quite the work out.
As much as I love Google, I have found that you can still bring up stuff on Alta Vista that you may not on google. It all depends on how you are doing your searches.
What a crazy world we live in! Thank goodness for the internet. It truly brings out both the best and the worst in people, so there is always something for everybody hahah.

Excellent.
sorry i had to start a new topic but the board's software is not allowing me any replies and with all the newer people here they might want to get to know a little about me.. i was raised in a jw household that wasn't terribly strict, but strict enough where i had no worldly friends and wouldn't even consider college or extracurricular school activities.
baptized at 17. that and getting married just after turning 20 stunted me emotionally and i'm still recovering, though i think i'm doing an okay job.. started working in my father's business and pretty much took it over when he retired and moved to florida in 1995.. quit associating with jws in 1997 at age 25. jw wife left me on the advice of the elders, but she came back 5 months later.. grew my hair very long and pierced my ear.. in spring of 2000 two elders came to my house under the pretense of inviting me to the memorial.
" they then informed me that the real reason they were there was to serve me notice that a judicial hearing was being scheduled and i was asked several times to either attend or put something in writing that i was no longer one of jehovah's witnesses.. i chose to attend the hearing.
You could always start a blog...that way if you wanted to post something but don't have any topic starters left you pm people.
just a thought. People can sign up for automatic updates at alot of free blog places.

let's say it plainly, for once.
jehovah's witnesses deserve to be persecuted.. at one time, jehovah's witnesses suffered terribly in germany and communist countries - but that was a long time ago.. right now, the watchtower's minions are slyly preaching to circuit assemblies about the importance of shunning their ex-witness.
relatives.
if you are going to ban the JWs you have to ban all the religions. What is that called in the US...oh, FREEDOM OF RELIGION.
I for one, think it would be a waste of time. don't give them a reason to make themselves look like martyrs.
Now, taking away the tax credit is a good idea, unless they would do some real charitable work. I do agree with that.
I know many have been adversely affected by this religion, and I don't mean any offense, I really don't. But I find this kind of talk so extreme, to be, well almost JW like.
For those who want to protest the religion...keep doing that. Spread the good news about how wierd they really are. But the government stepping in is not going to shut down the faith.
The crumble would have to be from within.
i just got some news and am still shaking.
my sister died today.
i hardly knew her .
Ladylee, I am so sorry.
