My life as a JW

born into the "truth" so to speak, my parents just started studying after i was born.
after the 1975 prophesy failed my father slowly distanced himself from the org.

DATELINE update - and reqeust for help

thought i'd spread this post around to a few boards.. just had a nice long talk with a producer at nbc's dateline.
he is 99 percent certain that they will be doing a segment on the witnesses.

Hey there,
I was reading about a book at Amazon.com called "Judging Jehovah's Witnesses : Religious Persecution and the Dawn of the Rights Revolution" By a man named Shawn Francis Peters. Never heard of him or the book before yesterday...but here is what one of the reviewers wrote who read the book:
The author is not one of Jehovah's Witnesses nor is he sympathetic toward their beliefs. (Which he makes clear in various comments throughout the book.) However, he does support their legal right to have such beliefs, to proclaim them, and to act in harmony with them.
What I liked about the book was the background the author gives to the legal cases. He doesn't just give you the legal facts but he gives you the story of the Witnesses, their persecutors, the police officers, and the judges. He tries to help you see why each group acted the way they did. He shows how the persecution affected the private lives of the Witnesses. I particularly enjoyed the behind the scenes look into the Supreme Court. What the Justices thought in private and how they wrangled with one another before making their decisions.
Mr. Peters has done a good job in bringing back to public attention a momentous period in legal history that helped to shape in a significant way the legal environment of our present time. A time in which even hated minorities can look to the courts with a certain amount of confidence that their legal right to think, proclaim, and act in harmony with their beliefs will be protected

A look into the devil's workshop
by spectromize innow we all know for you who have attended meetings at the kingdom hall and heard speakers from the platform give us bible verses and telling us that the ruler of this world is the devil of which i firmly believe due to the fact that this world is completely warped.. .
doesn't it strike you funny to see that satan who makes the rules for his system can't keep them and tries to manipulate rules and regulations always in his favor and that of his seed.. .
#1 example- did you know that according to the bible that satan's agents keep transforming themselves into agents of light.

Hey Philo,
Bummers that your hall was like that! All the halls I've been to here in the US were actually quite lovely. They had very large windows and I used to daydream my way through many a talk <Don't get me wrong, as you can tell if you have read my posts I'm VERY disillusioned with the JWs.>

Fred,the Preaching Work,+the WTS 'batting slump'
by ISP inthe preaching work ,fred and the wts 'batting slump'.
in a thread below, fred, in a quite daniellesque manner, sought to detract from ray franz's credibility because ray did not promote the wts' preaching activity.. firstly i have to say that fred is not in the easiest position.
he is a wts apologist of sorts and whereas he might have some support on some other boards like great crowd or wol where his non-sequitors would go quite undetected, he finds it hard going here.

LOL! Thanks for a great post Grunt. Just remember if A Jehovah's Witness can't explain it from the reasoning book it's either apostate or demonized! Has to be one of the two, as all their reasoning is 100% accurate <NOT!>

Hello...
by Atticus ini used to post over at h2o a long time ago and thought i would drop in and say hello.
i am very glad that someone has taken the time to set up another place where ideas about jehovahs witnesses can be freely posted and discussed.
this type of place is a great public service for people who are just starting to see through the thick fog and who are just beginning to recognize cracks in that grandiose, self-serving, anything-but-ivory, tower that has the gall to refer to itself as the truth.
