Abraham & Sumerians

now, it's said the sumerians predated hebrew writings by several centuries or longer.

I agree! When we see shows or read about the ancient Celts, Aztecs, etc. who made human sacrifices to their Gods, most would agree that this is rather barbaric and shocking...however the entire old testament in riddled with extreme violence and bloodshed. Yet those who say that every single word of the book we call the bible is the direct inspired word of God to mankind and say that most of this bloodshed was done in his name, don't think twice about it <I'm not sure but I think that was a run on sentence..hehehe I hate it cause I know what I wanna say but can't always get this brain of mine make it come out on the page in coherent form!>

Question but do not challenge

Brings to mind something that happened a few days ago. One of my 5 year olds stumbled upon the kingom melodies cassettes. He asked if he could listen to them, after putting the tape in the song "Make the truth your own" came on. I started to sing the words. Of course as a JW I never thought twice about the words. But now listening to it objectively the hypocrisy of the title alone is staggering. There is no such thing as making the truth your own when you are one of Jehovah's Witnesses! You are allowed to make the teachings if the WTBTS your own, and that IS IT! Even thinking anything that is not taught by the society <thinking it, having someone find out you are thinking it, having it brought to the attention of the elders and not willing to retract the thought>is grounds for disfellowshipping!!!!
Yes sir, that's making the truth your own! sheesh.Eyes

Why I Think Its The Truth!
by normie67 inthis is normie thoughts on the threads about the truth..... i have huge doubts about a lot of things about the org.
i have been a jw for 20 yrs and still active(family reasons).
but nobody but nobody has refuted to my mind, the fact nobody does the evangelizing work jesus did.

On an interesting side note: In the last chapter of "Crisis of Conscience" Brother Franz brings out a thought provoking point. He says on page 385
"That the "good news" centers on this very expression of mercy by God through Christ and his ransom can be demonstrated by anyone who will take the time to look up each occurence of that phrase by means of a concordance. Of the more than one hundred occurences of the expression "good news" in the bible, there are eight references to the good news "of the kingdom" but there are scores of references to the good news "about the christ" This is because God's kingdom, the expression of his royal sovreignty, is all centered in his Son and the things that God has done through him and will yet do through him."
So as many others on this thread have posted, even though JWs preach, what they peach is not the message that the original christians preached. Even though JWs say they are a christian religion, somewhere along the line Jesus has kind of fallen through the cracks in the organizational machinery, and has been put into the background.
Jesus did say that the good news would be preached in all the nations...But I don't recall him saying that this good news will be preached only by one organization centered in NYC. That is the WTBTSs take on it.
Just my 2 cents.

Assemblies...conventions...special days...
by NikL inthere is a phenomenon in dub dom that i have always hated.
the circuit/district convention.. people will spend hard earned money, use up any vacation they may have to travel to a city they don't really have any particular reason to see to sit for entire days and listen to the same b.s.
they could sit and listen to at the meetings in their home kingdom hall.
