MSCEMIKE- You are so right in saying we have to keep talking about this or it will die out, get swept under the rug. As you say writing newspapers, talking with people, especially witnesses coming to our doors. I pinned that elder and his wife for 30 minutes they were my captives to listen about the molestation issues. And I wanted to make sure they understood what their organization has done by written evidence , so they would have no misperception in their minds how wrong it is. Just have to keep talking! Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Doing Good Humane things for Other People- Why Jw's Won't Notice It
by flipper inone thing that always bothered me when i was a witness, was that the main thing you were admired for was how much time you got in the service each month, how many times you commented at meetings, whether you hung out with " spiritual " people, and your approval was based on how you were advancing in the faith based on your position, regular or auxilarry pioneer, ministerial servant or elder.
if you weren't any of those things, even if you did good to or for others, it was not noticed.
if joe publisher sitting in the corner went and mowed sister old ladies yard in 100 degree heat out of love it was not emphasized, because it didn't really fit in with the agenda the elders or governing body deems important as being for the advancement of kingdom interests.

Hello Folks- Thanks for all you replies. Interesting subject. I'll reply to your comments.
REEFTON JACK- I agree exactly with what you said. If the governing body pushes hours in service from the kh platform, that's exactly what everybody there will concentrate on doing. They are coerced to think that to be "accepted " by God you gotta get your field service time in, come hell or high water. It's totally wack.
SSPO- You got it, bro. They are told it is outlined for them what is acceptable and not acceptable service to God. This is so they can't think for themselves, it's all done for them and controlled. Do I hear anybody say , cult?
WT WIZARD- Very true what you say. I got so tired of wasting my gas in service, too. Especially when nobody would help out moneywise with the cost. A real loving God would not destroy people for minding their own business. He won't, believe me.
BRYAN- I'm so sorry that your daughter treated you that way, my friend. I too, have daughters who will barely acknowledge me and refuse to return my calls. My son in the " world " a faded witness is so much more loving and respectful. Sorry about your mom too, is she lost in the organization as well? Peace to you my friend!
ROLLER DAVE- Yes, I know what you mean how they dissed charity giving. I give to charities now too. The witnesses used to use as an excuse, " Well we are giving the greatest charity of all by going out in service helping people live forever ". Yeah, but what about the people suffering now, do we turn a blind eye to that, because God alledgedly will fix it later??? To me that is the biggest copout when witnesses say that Thanks for all your thoughts, keep em' comin!

Witnesses are getting so disconnected from the Doctrine, but won't let go!

Man, I hope you are right On the Way, I just wish my daughters would stop bringing up witness stuff whenever I see them. Drives me nuts! Can't see them for two minutes without, " Dad, it's the time of the end! Dad, are you going back to meetings? " They know I won't, but they keep asking. My 80 year old mom however has been respectful, she just talks about normal family things, no witnessing involved. So we will see in the next 20 to 30 years, it will be interesting to see what the witnesses say about things then, when we are all still workin' at jobs in "this old system of things "

SCULLY- Great way to keep the witnesses at a distance! How can they argue with you wanting to protect children or grandchildren? If they do their jerks! Not wanting to use kids as guinea pigs to experiment if a molester is really changed or not! very good take, I will use that one on witness relatives.
CARLA- Yes. It's so important to keep banging the drum talking about this because the witnesses want it to go away. I know I'm gonna keep being that gnat in their face that won't leave.
BRAIN DEAD- Excellent idea of doing that incognito to help people. Glad to hear your sister is leaving the cult! Good news! Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Under What Circumstances Might a JW View One As An "Apostate"?
by minimus ini got a pm asking this question.
how would a jws radar go up if you were leaning toward questioning things or even showing information from the society's own publications that was damning toward them?
-
flipper
Also, if any jw's are aware you have even been reading non religious material, like psychology books, philosophy, or any books which give you direction on thinking processes, the witnesses will look at that as a threat to what they tell you at meetings and in jw land

ANEWME- Very, very true what you said. However, I wasn't looking for brownie points when I was nice or decent to people in the congregation. I feel that if the popular ones in the congregations do it , it is generally to be noticed or complimented or given more privileges. It did not matter to me that what I did wasn't noticed. I would still be decent whether anybody saw me help others or not. But yes, they do kick you to the curb, nice or not.
COGNIZANT- Boy, do I hear you loud and clear! My dad is still an elder from 1955. My older brother is more self righteous, however I was lucky to have parents that did consider some poor ones. There was a crippled brother who taught me how to play chess as a teenager and we would have him over for hot fudge sundaes on book study night. So I was glad my parents did that. But what you say for the most part is true. If you weren't in the "club " or clique of popular elders, servants, or pioneers, you would be standing there watching them conversate at kingdom halls. Then if I would try to inject a thought on something, they would kind of look at you like, " How dare you offer a thought up you normal one"!
It got really frustrating at times dealing with fake people. That's why at meetings I too often gravitated to talking with the lowly ones or less popular people. At least they were real, not trying to impress for positions. Thanks for sharing Cog, good post

i don't understand this man
by firefly inthis is my first time on this forum, but i need some input on a really confusing situation and i thought that this would be the best place to get it.
this is a long story, but there is much that needs to be explained and i really need to get this off my chest.. in dec. of 2005 i was a regular at an 80's dance club.
i would go there on weekends not to meet or go home with anyone, but just to hang out with friends and dance (dancing is among my favorite of hobbies).

Firefly- Mr. Flipper here. First of all, I would like to say how very sorry I am to hear you were emotionally taken advantage of like that. Having been raised around the witnesses and having got out 4 years ago at age 44 I will try to give you some insight into this pardon my english (creeps) mind.
First of all he was living a double life, trying to get the best of both worlds. He was not only using you , but using his wife as well. For some of these witnesses, they go through such a yo-yo syndrome of emotions because of what the religion keeps threatening them with in their beliefs. The reason this guy kept going back and forth to you and was unable to make his mind up was out of fear of what they call " Armageddon " where they are taught if they break God's laws they will be destroyed forever. So that is why he kept talking with you about an " alleged" paradise, because they are taught if they are faithful, God will preserve them into a paradise earth to live peacefully, happily forever. I know it's far fetched, but that's what they believe! So your guy could not make his mind up I think between choosing you or going back to the religion. And when it went too far out of his control, with wifey filing for divorce on him, he thought, oh well! hell!, I've blown it anyway , I'm gonna die at Armageddon, so I might as well play the field and have fun! Callous I know, but this religion makes them that way.
Also, please understand the difference between love and lust. You might have really loved him, but he was not honest about his true feelings for you. If he had really loved you he would not have hurt you like that. He was feeling lust, not love. Thus his confusing feelings also. Now he is primed to go on hurting the next lady he is with, then the next, and so forth. So even though it hurts for now, I would cut your losses, get over him in time. You sound like a nice lady and I'm sure you will meet a real decent man who will treat you with the honor and respect you deserve. There are still some of us out here. Hey, my wife found me a year and a half ago. But believe me, I dated some ladies who were like your guy you describe too. It happens in both sexes. please hang in there, the sun will rise each day. Each day will give you a chance to heal a little bit more, till you are ready to open your heart again to a good man. Peace to you my friend, Mr. Flipper

If joe publisher sitting in the corner went and mowed sister old ladies yard in 100 degree heat out of love it was not emphasized, because it didn't really fit in with the agenda the elders or governing body deems important as being for the advancement of kingdom interests. The governing body has a set list of certain things they consider makes a person a " christian " and believe me, it has nothing to do with how you act, or whether you are a loving , kind, christlike acting person. It has become all about what you put out production wise for the church, not real love.
So it should not surprise us to see witnesses not acknowledging any good , decent things we do for others on the outside of the org. because they ignore a lot of good their no name publishers do on the inside of the organization. During Katrina and other disasters witnesses are so willing to pat themselves on the back about "helping" their people in need, as if they were the only humans on earth doing it. Thousands of decent loving people helped during Katrina, crossing over racial differences to do so. It just disgusts me they are so self satisfied in their assessment of themselves. What have you guys or gals seen over the years that back up what I'm saying here? I was raised in the org. and saw a lot. Would like to hear your thoughts please. Thanks, Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Here is a thought you all. Next time you are on the street and see a witness with the watchtower and awake, why not carry some extra ap news articles of the child molestation settlements of the witnesses and give it to them ? Take their magazines to humor them, then say , "I have something I'd like you to read too. It's important." Then see what happens. You might be suprised. I did this a month ago to an older witness standing in front of our post office and actually talked 5 minutes or so with him about it. You never know , we might just make some of them think.
Also, when they come to your door in service, take that as an opportunity to make them think about what their religion is doing about child molestation and inform them. The reason I feel we should do this at every opportunity is because they want to bury this fast, don't want their members to know. Information control. But if we can yank some of that control back from their church and us control what they hear, if even one or two people listen, it will have been worth it. I made a p.o. and his wife listen for 30 minutes at my door one day. So any thoughts you folks have? Are we able to keep this thing alive, and in the forefront of the jw's minds? What say ye? Peace out, Mr. Flipper
