Burger Time- Mrs. Flipper had a thought, I thought it was good. A lot of these witnesses don't want to admit to themselves or can't face up to the fact they have spent a lot of time, money and effort for nothing and have a hard time admitting a molestation settlement could happen. Thus you had the sad look response. They probably know it's true, but makes them sad to admit publicly to it

As a JW were you ever counseled about clothes you wore, or lack thereof ?
by flipper inthought this could get interesting discussing experiences.
i for one was trying to reach out for ministerial servant again in the early 90's , had been one before, and was assigned to carry the microphones one meeting.
had an elder call me in the back room and say , " brother flipper, i noticed looking down towards your shoes that you are wearing white socks today.

Great responses all of you! Wow! I never realized how nit-picking an organization we were in till reading all your responses. Well, I digress maybe I did. Anyway, I forgot another one about me
My dad, as an elder in the 70's when a lot of us teenage guys had, " big " hair, used to ride my butt about my wavy black hair going over my ears and I was not setting the right example for other teenage brothers in the hall, being an elders son and such. In fact another elder had a son 13 who was a few years younger than me and he started imitating my style. ( See, I was a $h#t stiirrer even then!) So as much as my dad tried to convince me I should not insist on my rights, but had a duty to not stumble others, I kept showing him scriptures like in Romans where it says," Who are you to judge the house servant of another?". Like that got me anywhere! LOL. So I did the ultimate young witness thing, got married too young at 19, and looking back at pictures now of that wedding back in 1979, I look like a greasy mafia member in the spirit of Sylvester Stallone hair disheveled, over my ears, messy. Maybe my old man was right. Now I keep my hair trimmed neat. Looks better. Life is somethin' huh? Funny

Will the police soon arrest 10,000 JW pedophiles?
by moshe ini am thinking that about 10,000+ jw secret pedophiles are losing a lot of sleep right now.
they know the only thing that has saved their butt is the silence of the elders and their victim's families at the kh.
they are probably watching the news very closely and the latest case in england will no doubt scare them.

Moshe- When I talked with a local elder a p.o. in the area and he came to my door, I anti witnessed to him and his wife about the pedophile problem. I asked him point blank , " What is your policy on turning in or reporting child molesters to authorities ? " He said , " We investigate the report, see if there were two witnesses, then tell the victim and their family if they want to go to the authorities they can if their conciense tells them to. " I asked, " So you elders don't go to the authorities with it? " He said , " No. Not generally , however if I felt there was a need or if the child wasn't in danger, I'd probably go to the authorities. " Then I ripped him a good one , " I said, there is no probably about it. Of course the child is in danger. You as an elder should feel morally obligated to the child. " It's like arguing with a brick wall.
But Sir Nose is right, probably due to not wanting publicity, the elders won't be the ones to go to the authorities. It would have to be the families involved or the victim. And a lot of victims don't want to be victimized again by having to go over the details again. Opens wounds again and again. So all we can hope for is perhaps the families to push it for the sake of their abused relatives. It's a tough call

Reading " Crisis of Consience", What did you Learn, How did it affect you?
by flipper inthought this would be good to discuss for the newbies and others just getting out of the witnesses, so they can have their thinking and appetites whetted of things they never knew coming out from under the witness organizations spell.
i know for myself, after reading this book, it totally clarified what the reasons were for all the control in the organization.
and i was informed of things i never had a clue that were going on behind the bethel scenes.

Good thoughts fellow posters on the book. Like On the Way Out, I was quite surprised by many things I read in the book. Having been raised a jdub , it was extremely eye opening. Some things I found:
I learned that their views on things are controlled very much by what is happening in the personal lives of members of the governing body. For instance for years they had a view that missionary brothers should remain single to give full attention to their ministry . Ray Franz had to live in a house as a missionary in his 20's with a house full of single missionary sisters. Talk about the" blueballs syndrome" of living as a single brother surrounded by a house full of sisters, unmarried with no release of human desires in sight!! But miracle of miracles! New light came in the mid 1950's when the watchtowers' then president Nathan Knorr had the desire to get married, new light occured and once he got married, magically suddenly it was alright for other missionary brothers to get married too. Relief for poor Ray.
I also learned that they were intrusive beyond belief or comprehension into their members personal lives. I had never been clear on the societies view of oral or anal sex, I always got different opinions from different elders, I guess it depended who was gettin' it or who wasn't!! That being said Ray Franz said that from 1972 to 1977 very strict unmoving views of sexual practices within the marriage were forced on members of the organization to the point that if it was found out someone was having oral or anal sex in their marriage , they could be disfellowshipped!! Boy, that opened Pandora's Box! It caused hundreds of , if not thousands of married couples to rat on each others bedroom practices, thus the society was deluged with letters from elders on how to handle these situations. So many people were unjustly disfellowshipped for things that should be kept private. Many divorces ensued and families were broken up. And over what, basically oral or no oral!! Hella stupid! Then just as mysteriously in 1977 the society changed their view again, "new light", and said it's a personal decision just don't talk about it with others in the kingdom hall. But the damage was done. Ray Franz said he and other elders felt awful about counsel that had been given affecting peoples lives, and then what do you tell them when the powers of the governing body change the view again? Woops were sorry? It's not enough.
These are just a couple points that stood out in my mind that I learned. How did it affect me? It made me realize that that organization is no more run by " holy spirit " than my gasoline powered automobile for sure. And it firmed up in my mind all the things they teach are just their own opinions and interpretations, not truth. They no more have a handle on what real truth is than anybody else. Sealed that in my mind. So, kick in some more thoughts here ya'll, look forward to hearing from you, what else did you learn, how did it affect you? Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Hello all. Thought this would be good to discuss for the newbies and others just getting out of the witnesses, so they can have their thinking and appetites whetted of things they never knew coming out from under the witness organizations spell. I know for myself, after reading this book, it totally clarified what the reasons were for all the control in the organization. And I was informed of things I never had a clue that were going on behind the Bethel scenes.
So, for all you newbies out there or others who have not read this book, this is from us who have read it, and these are some things we learned and how this knowledge affected us. I will let others speak first here so as to have a full complete coverage. I will interject some thoughts I read and learned along the way I thought were important, if others don't cover it. Peace out to all, welcome all your thoughts please!! Let's help these newbies escaping!! Peace out, Mr. Flipper, thanks!

Well, music is a very subjective thing. Thanks for sharing Fedor. Being a big Jethro Tull and Ian Anderson fan myself, I definitely noticed the Tull influence there. I liked that part in the song. I agree with one poster who said the vocals rather screwed it up . Could have been better vocals. Electric guitar was adequate , but certainly not Stevie Ray Vaughnish or Jimmy Pageish. Of course as you can see, I'm particular. I think personally for me I'd give it a middle of the road 5 rating. Could have been done better, or it could have been worse. Glad you like it though Fedor, rock on!!

Locks of Love is wonderful. My favorite 13 year old boy in the world was in the local paper last week, getting his hair cut for this. Took him 2 years to grow it, he said he will be glad now not to be mistaken for a girl. mrs flipper

My life personally has taken a much more positive turn after leaving the religion. Less stress to be having nights taken up with meetings droning on. Lots more time for reading new things on life, hobbies, trips to take, I enjoy cooking for my wife. Also being married again to a wonderful person makes it great! She sees me for who I am, not what she wants to turn me into. Have a great son, learning at college. I do miss my witness daughters, but still call, tell them I love them, try to stay positive.
We live in a nice mountain area, good weather, nice pets, dogs, cats, wife loves to garden, vegetables, flowers, etc. Kids are grown, look forward to having grandkids some day. My wife are considered middle aged but we feel in our 20's, very active lives. Do you all feel free since leaving the witnesses and like life has blossomed for you in different ways? What's going on in your life that you'd like to talk about ? If it's not happy that's cool too ! We can all learn and empathize with each other. We've been there done that. That is one common thread a lot of us have here is being ex witnesses, so this is your venting thread, how are you feeling, good or bad? Happy or sad? Would really like to hear from ya'll. Peace to you all, Mr. Flipper
