  Control damn it! April 2004 KM on How to Behave at the Conventions

  my god, this is worst than last years.

  i'm not writing the whole thing out, but here are some "convention reminders" for this years district convention.. "let us exhalt his name together" page 3. para 4. please bring a lunch rather than leave the convention site to obtain a meal during the noon break.

  this will allow all to enjoy upbuilding association and be present from the very start of the session.

  This article is exactly the same every year and is just another example of the regimentation the Society wants to impose on the R&F.

  I just cannot image Christ wanting to regiment people in such a manner. I have attended a number of assemblies in a very poor third world country and things were a little different there. We all sat outside on the ground. People formed groups of 3 or 4 families, the food we brought was placed in the middle and we all shared. What in meant was that the poorest kids had a chance to eat something they normally wouldn't get. I had a feeling at the time that this was more "Christian" than the regulated manner constantly trotted out by the KM.

  Do you still have a nice handwriting?

  more than ever, we use our computers and printers to write whatever we need to write.

  it's neat and we can edit our mistakes without anybody noticing.

  but on the other hand, we practise less and less our handwriting.

  I think that girls are generally better hand writers than boys. When I was at school, my writing was terrible and I was constantly being berated because of it. Then, one day, I simply sat down and made myself write well. To this day, I am still neat and legible.

  Yes/No - Will the good news ever be preached through out the earth?

  no - not by jehovah's witnesses.

  there seems to be no clear line from the society on how much preaching needs to be done before the "end".

  the "stones would cry out" principle is sometimes aluded to but i was/am a little vague on the official line.

  If we take the preaching in the USA and assume that everyone has at least heard of Jehovah's Witnesses, this has taken over a hundred years effort in what is basically a Christian, population now 250 million (very approx. I know). Now, take China and India, these represent at least a third of humanity, approx. 2 billion. I know there are Witnesses in China and Indian, but in orders of magnitude, they are virtual non-existent. Besides, these are non-Christian countries and despite quite a large effort post WW2 to send missionaries in, there was none of the explosive growth experienced in Africa and South America, areas of the world already Christian.

  Marital Status after Armageddon

  what's the deal regarding marriage and marital status after the "big 'a'"?

  i was once referred to mat 22:29 where jesus says that resurrected people will be like angels and neither marry or be given in marriage.

  but that doesn't cover all the possibilities.. i have also read (but a search doens't give me what i need) that those married couples surviving the big a will remain married in the new system.

  The wording of the witness marriage vows is quite interesting as well; ".... as long as we both shall live together on earth under God's martial arrangement".

  It is a bit of a doctrinal cop out in that God may at some point in the future change his "martial arrangement". I often wondered if the governmental authorities would ever pick up on that and question it, as secular authorities would not conceive of time when the marriage arrangement would be changed for those still alive on earth.

  Circuit assembly : The Window for Lying

  over at channelc, you can find evidence of one of the valued reasons for having circuit assemblies.. they get to lie and deceive - away from the prying eyes of the public.. apparently, a brother novak informed the crowd that phil.

  2: 9-11 - in which "every knee shall bend" to christ.

  is a command to obey the elders.

  Just to clarify though; it is only COs and Dos who can get away with this at circuit assemblies.

  Have done numerous talks at assemblies myself. These are carefully orchestrated, rehersals with at least the CO if not the DO as well. Often, these guys may as well have prepared the material for you themselves, given the amount of changes they often wanted.

  Agree about being watched over. I have seen the Society's representative spy following line by line from the official outline, making sure nothing out of line is inserted.

  i don't know what eles to call it , i guess it is the user name....lol.......so what does yours mean?.

  i think awhile back i might have asked this,,,,,,,but it was way back and so many new ones here that i am just getting to know, and ones who came in here while i was not here as much.

  there may be a thread on this in the last recent months, i am not sure,,,,if so, if there are any new ones who want to tell why they choose their user names,,,,,please do.. i will tell you why my name is lyineyes,,,,,many have asked me that here lately.

  A fictional child character from Salmon Rushtie's book 'Midnight's Children'. Obviously, he had an 'eyesliced' in an accident and became blind in it, hence the nick-name. He has some other great names Padma Mangroli, Shiva, Padma, Naasem, Rashid the rickshaw boy, Parvati-the-Witch, Uncle Puffs and Picture-Singh.

  Chose Eyeslice because it fitted me; blinded to some extend by up bringing and years in the truth but still got one good eye to start seeing my way around.

  Recent mentions of "This Generation"

  i was just reading the thread "questions on the generation teaching", and someone mentioned the 1995 watchtower article where is said this:rather than provide a rule for measuring time, the term "generation" as used by jesus refers principally to contemporary people of a certain historical period, with their identifying characteristics.. .

  what i'm wondering is, has the wts mentioned the word "generation" since this article?

  are they sticking to this explanation in any way, shape, or form?

  I believe not.

  This generation isn't being spoken about any more.

  Neither is the UN being the image of the wild beast who will destroy all false religion.

  Neither is avoidance of blood being a safety measure (i.e. allow boold fractions from 'large pools of donors').

  Doctrinally, they are extremely weak - no theologians more (if ever there were any).

  ok, we know that field service, for the most part is unproductive.

  that is, very few newly baptised jw's are from converts.

  that means that most dubs make babies, indoctrinate them, and they become dubs.

  The Society will continue to struggle in the west. Growth has been negative or zero at best.

  Whilst, years ago a typical circuit of 1,500 publishers used to get approx 16 to 20 baptism candidates per circuit assembly, now it is more like 2 to 6, of which 2 thirds will be raised in the truth.

  Agree with comments about third world countries - a target area for growth.

  We had a small female black cat who we lost just over a year ago. She was well over 20 years old. She was around when my eldest kids were very little and mothered around my other kids when they born and brought home from hospital.

  She always slept at the bottom of our bed. Losing her was like losing one of the family.
