some were vicious and cruel and rude.
If a brother is an experienced builder and another brother says something has to be done a certain way , that usually created nasty arguments - so yes I have seen this sort of thing before at builds
I have seen this quite a number of times. The worst trouble comes when the experience brother is 'just' a publisher and the other brother is an elder construction overseer. The whole JW thing is a hierarchy; and the senior person has the last say, not the most suitable. Eyeslice

personally, i do not like cinema films about the holocaust and, therefore, have never watched things like shindler's list or the pianist.

My fear is that as the survivors die out, and we get further away from the event, the deniers will have fewer people who were there to challenge them. Of course, people like us can still speak out against such balderdash. That is why it is necessary that the survivors stories be preserved, so that, at least, people can read about what they experienced.

i was watching an old eddie murphy hbo special a few weeks ago where he was talking about relationships.
in his bit, he went off on how all men cheat on their wives and girlfriends.
he was adamant that even the nicest of guys will take the opportunity to cheat if given the chance and that women need to understand that this is the way it is, 100% of the time.
There are two questions here;
Obviously, question 1 - No - many do not get the opporttunity.
Question 2 not all but perhaps many would.

that always used to make me laugh when somone who couldn't sing just belted it out in their horrible voice.
or i used to love the husband and wife duos that thought they were all that as they sat and tried to harmonize.
The problem with the quality of singing at meetings is that, like everything else in JW world, it is overly regulated and uniform. Rather than being a joy, singing is part of the pre-set programme, song at the beginning, song in the middle and song at the close.
I often though about taking along a couple of guitars and doing a few of songs differently. But that would be allowed nor would composing a few of your own songs. How different from the more charismatic churches where singing appears to be a fundamental part of worship.

i don't consider myself an overly emotional person, but gina and i went to an art museum years ago and i was nearly in tears over something i saw there.
it was a statue of an old man carrying a jug.
it was made two thousand years ago.

The Taj Mahal in India has to be one of the most breath-taking pieces of architecture ever created by mankind.
I am sure that there cannot be many people who visit it who are not moved by its magnificence and the immortality bestowed by Shah Jehan on his favorite wife by this building created as her final resting place.

the last century saw the holocaust and other atrocities of ww ii, rwanda, the killing fields, hindus against muslins during the partition of india, catholics against protestants in n. ireland, hatred by certain sections of the muslim world against the usa and list that goes on and on.
the hope i still have is that we can teach our children to think differently.

The answer has to be yes.
We need to beware ourselves, we need to teach our children, we need to adopt a zero tolerance approach hatred and violence of any sort. Most important, as shown by many of the responses to this thread, we must never become bystanders when we see others manifesting prejudice and hatred even if means risking our own wellbeing.
