The end is always just round the corner.
As for the Iraq situation, I fail to see that this is anywhere near as dangerous as the cold war of 20 to 30 years ago, which could have led to a global nuclear madness.

Guantanamo Bay Suicides - a PR Move
by eyeslice inquote from bbc website .
a top us official has described the suicides of three detainees at the us base at guantanamo bay, cuba, as a "good pr move to draw attention".
colleen graffy told the bbc the deaths were part of a strategy and "a tactic to further the jihadi cause", but taking their own lives was unnecessary.

If 460 US citizens had been held on some remote island without trial for nearly 4 years, I think Bush and Blair would have had something to say about it.
I agree that the West is threatened by a lunatic fringe of Islamic extremists but we have to win the moral high-ground. Guantanamo Bay is a disgrace to the US and the so-called free world.

Did You Believe "The End" Was Going To Come In Your Lifetime?
by minimus inwhen the society came out in 1966 with the info that 6000 years of man's existence would come to an end by 1975, i thought it was a crock.
for 9 long years, all jws did was speculate about "when" the great tribulation was going to begin.
i always thought of jesus' words about "nobody knowing the day or the hour"----yet jehovah's witnesses figured it out?

Yes - that's why so many of us here labored, so hard and so long, for the organization.
The doubt I always had a JW was that God would destroy a world of mankind. I guess in my heart of hearts, I really believed in some sort of Universal Salvation, that the majority of the people would be won over by the love of God and Christ.

What Do You Eat For Brakfast?
by Carmel inno attempt her at subtrafuge, just thought i'd kick off a subject with an anology.
when i eat breakfast, i usually have one of three things, something with eggs, something sweet or just the coffee!
how much of what i injest for the start of my day is controlled by the culture i live in and the habits i have come to consider "normal"?

I have cereals or a bananna or toast or fruit. Not much else. Get you drfit though. When I am in India I eat spicy Indian food for breakfast and thus experience something different.
When I was a witness, my reading and intellectual interests were somewhat limited. I try a wider reading 'diet' nowadays.

by Schizm intruthseeker posted the following quote, here: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/114458/2002789/post.ashx#2002789.
i attempted to verify the quote by referring to the society's library, which i possess.
in fact i posess the 1997, 2004, and 2005 libraries.

Is there a doctrinal change afoot in the WTBTS?
by Gill inis the wtbts preparing the r and f for a large doctrinal change?.

Not sure there will be a major shift.
However, it does strike me that the WTB&TS is completely at sea at the moment, hence the constant 'counsel' about loyalty to the FDS. The 'end' has been round the corner for years, young ones are no longer as committed as we were in our youth 20 or 20 years ago, and the internet are all areas of particular worry.
My take is that they will keep on fiddling round the basic doctrines - nothing too radical in the short term. However, we will continue to see the same pattern of little or negative growth in the west and increasingly hard to make new converts in the third world.

randy people have something in their genes that makes them sex-mad, scientists have found.
three out of 10 men and women find it harder to control their sexual urges because of the genetic fluke.
