I can remember knocking on doors where you know no one is in and still spending 10 minutes talking to me "partner" waiting for the door not to be opened.

"Slogging" - the top speed at which JWs go door to door
by LovesDubs ini know this topic has been beat to death probably in here...but i was watching some of the "friends" going down my street the other day (and they categorically skip my house because satan and i are tight you know) and it reminded me so much of how much i hated going door to door and how i prayed when it was my turn to knock that nobody was home.
and we walked down those streets with our little territory cards in hand, making anywhere from meticulous to rediculous notes about the house we were just at...and moving our feet as slowly as we possibly could to maintain a forward motion at all, to eat up the time we were forced to (yes i said forced to) report every month.
field service was what you called the time you spent between when you were at mcdonalds and dunkin donuts.

What are the most insincere things JWs say?
by Spectrum init really makes me angry when they say i love jehovah.
they don't know what they are talking about.
if they read with an open mind the carry-ons of this cruel mesopotanian god they would feel ridiculous and embarrassed for putting this god before their family, their children.

Hiring the wife to other men
by greendawn inin india having a daughter is a big economic liability due to the need to provide a dowry for her future husband.
better have sons to receive dowries.
so, many parents abort or kill their infant daughters and as a result there aren't enough women for all the men to marry with.

I can't believe they still include crap like this on the CDROM
by XBEHERE in*** yy chap.
5 p. 39 par.
9 masturbation and homosexuality ***.

The CDROM simply contains all the current WTB&TS publications. The fact of the matter is that they still hold to these beliefs.

Jesus: the mediator of the anointed (only)?
by evergreen indid anyone realise that this was the case when they became a witness or just realise through time that this is the societies teaching on it?
.
each year i get annoyed at the memorial when the speaker giving the talk always refers to this point and then says how the other sheep (the great crowd) "can benefit from this arrangement".

Your comment is typical of many elders and rank and file. Often, they simply have never understood the finer points of WTB&TS doctrine. Pity they are still so dogmatic about their faith. -

My Wife's reaction to the Revelation Book news
by under_believer inso, i told my wife about the july km news that we'd be studying the revelation book again.

Don't go to the meetings any more but still in with a lot of still 'faithful' attenders. Their reaction; "oh no, not the Revelation Book again".

Studying the 'deep' books - it might be the final straw.
by jambon1 ini can remember studying the isaiah books 1 & 2 back-to-back.
during this time i simply never wanted to go to the book study.
it was all so repetative and boring.

'Deep books' just bore most of the flock. The other minority find them to simply be a flight of fantasy.

Why Tracts? And Why Now?
by metatron inah, the poor watchtower!
( is that literal these days?).
with their contributions sinking and expenses growing, they may have to further reduce the magazines - perhaps eliminating the awake.

Notice that the latest tract is in fact an invitation to the District Conventions.
That'll go down like a lead ballon with the public. -

Interesting comment "faithful and discreet slave feels that".
The truth of the matter is that the FDS have nothing to do with WTB&TS policy - it is dictated by the Governing Body who never consult the FDS - see Ray Franz's book. -

Science or Art, which best describes the human condition?
by eyeslice ini ask this question because, as a young man i would have said science is the only and best way to describe who and what we are.
when you think about it, the wtb&ts fits into the science camp, having a dogmatic; everything can be explained type attitude.
now i am older am less sure.

Now I am older am less sure. It seems to me that art, literature, music, etc. are much better at explaining what makes us tick. I have read some fabulous pieces of literature lately that make me feel good to be alive and gives me a better sense of who I am.
What do you think?
