Hi BonaFide
What an interesting story.
I served as an elder in a developing country and certainly understand where you are coming from. Many of our local congregations had one or no elders and things were very different. Some weeks, I conducted just about every meeting and often on a Sunday gave the public talk in two different congregations. Besides this I had my family to care for living in a strange country and I also had a very demanding secular job.
I am sure the brothers in the west do not begin to understand how difficult life can be in other parts of the world.
I came back to the west, and sat in one elders' meeting where they discussed what soap to buy for the wash-room. I remember thinking just these guys just don't get what Christianity should be all about.

How I was appointed C.O.
by BonaFide inif you have never served out of this country or spent any time preaching in another country, you may have certain ideas of how a c.o.
behaves and talks and acts.
what is the youngest c.o.

Seriously....Do You Think Obama Will Get Whacked?
by minimus ini surely hope not.
but i figure, if bush didn't get it, no one will.

I hope not.
I think that the repercussions would be unthinkable. If it were an extremist Muslim fundamentalist group then the situation in the Middle East would become very serious indeed. If it were from a 'white supremacist' group, then the situation in homeland America would become uncontrollable. -

I guess with Hilary and Barak for the Democrats, there was going to be a historic 'first' for the presidency. I am only glad that Sarah is no where near the White House - what a scary woman!

The new world will be here January 20, 2009 - what changes are you expectin
by eyeslice inbarak obaham will be sworn in as the first afro-american president of what is arguably the most powerful nation on earth on january 20, 2009. will this usher in a new age or will the actions not match the rhetoric?

Given the topic is "the new world" - what about health care? Sure the mess that the most prosperous nation in the world is in with health care not being universally available needs sorting??

But, may be he'll do more in his first year than Christ's kingdom has since 1914?

"The UN Wants Obama To Be President"
by minimus inmy mother told me that and asked, "don't you think this could fulfill bible prophecy?
"
-

Is it a fulfilment of Bible prophecy? Of course it is, here we have a practising Christian, who was brought in part as a Muslim and certainly knows about other faiths too. As far as I can see he is liberal and open minded.
Just the sort of person who is going to join with the UN in destroying world religion? Somehow I don't think so! -

Interesting Local Needs Talk: Don't Invite Studies To "Our" Get Togethers
by minimus ini heard that the most recent local needs talk was regarding the evils of having non witnesses at "our" gatherings.
since there's nothing really for "us" to talk to "them" about, and since "their" conversation will not involve anything to do with "the truth", we should guard against "worldly" association.
it appears that the cult wants their members totally removed from anyone not a witness.

Why am I not surprised! They are totally paranoid, every one not a witness is a potential threat to them.

Could a religion form around the life and teachings of Ghandi?
by gaiagirl inghandi lived a life which many would view as exemplary, and is revered even now as a model humanitarian.
could the stories associated with his life expand over the next several centuries so that a religion based on his life and example would be created?
would future generations tell stories about miracles which he performed, stories which we don't tell because the stories haven't yet been created?

Somehow, I don't think so. I read his autobiography (The Story of My Experiment with Truth) a few years back. I am a great admirer of Gandhi; above all he valued what we as individuals could do for our society. He certainly never looked for followers in a religious sense but rather saw himself as an example for others to follow.
