The sad thing is that this sort of rubbish does circulate amongst the rank and file.
Love it or hate it, religion is going to be around a long time - communism proved it couldn't be destroyed.

How to (a) write a public talk and (b) write an Awake! article
by JimmyPage inevery public talk ever given goes like this.... pick a subject, whether it's "god's government or man's?
" or whatever.... open by talking about how bad world conditions are,.
go on about how bad morals today are,.

Yep, the format sounds familiar.
Additionally, when I was school overseer I used to instruct the brothers to; "tell them what you are going to say (the introduction), tell them (the body) and tell them again (the conclusion)".
I always put a lot of time into my public talks but if push came to shove I could get up a deliver a Public Talk from the outline. There's not a lot to them mostly. -

"They no longer attend meetings"
by truthseeker inword has got our that mr. and mrs. truthseeker no longer attend meetings.. we still live in the territory of our old congregation.
instead of taking the time to call us and see how we're doing, the "friends" prefer to talk about us behind our backs, one of whom passed information to my wife's mother (who is a loyal witness) that we do not attend meetings.. just waiting for the ball to drop.. .

Know the feeling.
Since I left I have had surprisingly few visits at all. When I was a regular attender (and elder if that's a factor as well), everyone used to pop in if they were just passing for a coffee. Not any more. I can't remember the last time an elder visited my home.
The thing is is that I am not anti-Witness as such. I guess I will never go back but I do feel that they would at least get a listening ear and stand a chance with me compared to those that they meet in the door to door ministry.
The problem is they are only interested in counting hours, they are not really interested in people. -

Jehovah's Witnesses a religion with nothing to celebrate
by eyeslice inthis is a re-hash of a post i made a few years back when i had only just 'left'.
but as time has gone by i have become even more convinced that the witnesses are, how can i put this, a fairly miserable lot.
it seems to me that what separates humans from other animals is our culture and traditions.

Whatever you think of the Catholic church, I must admit they know how to perform ceremony.
I am certain that many of those who attended Christmas mass felt a sense of belonging and connection with both others celebrating today and the countless billions of Christians who have gone before, who celebrated the birth of Christ in the same way.
It is a feeling that I only sensed on a very few occasions as a Witness. -

I too remember 8 day assemblies when I was a kid.
We still have a programme somewhere in the house. If I can find it I will try to scan it and will post it one day. -

But the Witnesses have nothing. No rite of passage celebrations – even baptisms of Witness youths are warned to be kept low key. No Xmas, birthdays, Hanukkah or Diwali. Even the memorial is termed for the majority as an 'observance'.
So to you who celebrate, a happy Xmas. To those who don't; peace on earth and good will to all men.

How the "family study night" could backfire on the WTS
by sir82 insince the cbs in private homes has been cancelled, the wts is now strongly encouraging "family study nights".
but wait a minute...there's no printed schedule in the km!
"what are we supposed to study?".

I think there is a general consensus developing here:
- Most won't bother
- The Society will soon start to dictate what should be studied on 'study' night

From what I can read from the few JW's I still associate with, The end of the BS is a very sad thing
I think that is very true. If it came to a vote which meeting to get rid of, it would have been to ditch the TMS and Service Meeting. I know most find these repetitive and boring. And, I used have great difficulty cajoling people into to doing service meeting demonstrations, interviews, etc. -

The original meetings of the true followers of Christ were in individual homes, not a synagogue, church or other public building.
I totally agree. I have attended the group study in the humblest of homes in India and was perhaps where I felt the most comfortable with the 'truth'. The cold, clinical surroundings of Kingdom Hall does not make for true spirituality.
By the way, I am out; I have not been to a meeting at either the KH or at a group for 5 years now but I still feel a little sad about the group disappearing. Not for myself but for those who did love it more than the other meetings.
