Popped down the shops this evening and bought a few bread buns and other stuff for sandwiches. Also bought a bottle of wine; half of which I have drank tonight. I think I might try to smuggle the other half in with me tomorrow - might look like blackcurrant juice?

I agree too with Jeremy C - love doesn't take delight in the misfortunes of others.

I am sure that the current financial crisis does not effect the 60% of the world's population who live on a dollar a day. It might affect the 36 billionaires that there are in India but the other 1.1 billion won't notice, unless of course they come in contact with the preaching of the 'good news of the kingdom'.

The Sheer Boring Monotony Of Being A Jehovah's Witness
by minimus inwhat a terrible way of wasting valuable time.
going to meetings is the biggest scam.
you get nothing more from going than you would if you read a publication in the comfort of your home.

I agree that many meeting were poor and boring. That it is not to say that some of us didn't go to great lengths to make our parts on the meeting interesting and also to involve the audience.
I am just glad I am not involved and an elder any more - as far as I can see all the meeting now are pre-canned and scripted. -

If they really cared then they would always be putting effort into to helping former JWs.
The local congregation will spend hours if the ministry round the doors but don't drop in to see me. I am certainly on good terms with most of the congregation and would invite them in for a chat and a drink.
Calling on me would certainly be more pleasant than the reception they get at the public's door. But then again they couldn't count their time so perhaps that is it. -

Do You Think George W. Bush Still Drinks?
by minimus ini ask because sometimes he looks like he's in more a stupor than normal.. interestingly, yesterday he said he was going to "meet with his advisers and the president".....was he talking about himself?

Not sure about the drinking - perhaps if he did he would look as if he had more courage. Given his performance over the past few days he is certainly not the man for a crisis. Too me he has no charisma or and natural authority. I have often wondered who is really in charge - GW looks more like a puppet than a leader. Good thing he is out of the job in a few months.

Yes, both circuit and district assemblies were great. We used to cook food and serve hot meals even at circuit assemblies. And, the big 'International' conventions in the 60s when I was a kid were like refugee camps. Thousands of people, huge marquees, cooking for thousands and people sleeping in communal tents. Being a witness now is totally joyless!
